    A better idea than it looked like at the time, I'll admit that. Glaus looked like the injury prone one at the end of 2007. In retrospect it worked out well for St. Louis. At the time, Glaus only played 115 games in '07 and wasn't much of a defender. Question though: Would the Jays really have dealt in division?

    THe only 3B that was traded during that time was Scott Rolen. No thank you. In the '07-'08 offseason the Mariners were deluding themselves into thinking they were contenders, so Beltre's out. So who is the guy you think they could have gotten? About the only GOOD idea I can think of is a Blalock-Bailey platoon with Youks making it work. And that's no less chancy than Lowell and his good Boston track record.

    Nice play, JD. That's actually about his usual velocity. I think the gun's a bit slow (maybe 1-2MPH)

    More to the point Daisuke wasn't breaking 90 consistently nor was he throwing with even a modicum of command. I think it's got to be the shoulder. And I'd throw Masterson into the breach. He's stretched out. He's got starter's stuff.

    Yeah, that's a thread hijack, just like Kilo's not particularly well disguised jab at me in the poll is. Kilo's hijacking his own thread, I'm just refusing to let him get away with it. For the record, A-Rod was never even a free agent. He re-signed before the team lost exclusive rights to negotiate with him.

    Unless someone shows me who was supposed to play third (or first if you want to play that game) in 2008 then signing Lowell was a necessity.

    There isn't a lot out there for 3B's. Lowell was just about the best out there at the time he signed the deal. This is another thinly-veiled "we should have signed Teixeira" thread.

    He started a little slow last year too. Patience is in order. Difficult when we're losing games I know. If he still can't hit the ball in May then maybe you look to see what might be wrong.

    Yeah, benching Ortiz is really going to happen this year. Seriously, he'd have to be hitting .240 with 5 or fewer HR's by July for that to be a real possibility.

    Sure it would, but Teix doesn't replace Ortiz, that's the point to be considered. If Ortiz sucks it disrupts the entire lineup whether Teixeira is there or not.

    Give the dude $200M and the Yankees give him $220M. Give him $220M the Yanks give him $250M. Einsteinbrenner had decided not to be outbid on Teixeira. That's a matter of record by the way. Besides, Ortiz would be in the lineup whether or not we had Teixeira. That is also a matter of record.

    Not very much. All that would have meant is that Tex's salary -- for the Yankees -- was an additional $10+ M higher.

    We've seen this song and dance before. Daisuke comes out for the second because Tito absoultely has to let his warrior try to work things out in his own way, he gets shellacked, the game becomes irretrievable, and Daisuke is inexplicably pencilled in for his next start as if nothing happened.

    Meanwhile the Royals -- yes the ROYALS -- are beating Cleveland 9-3. I trade Daisuke for Davies straight up and I probably have to throw in 2 top prospects and eat salary to do it.
