  1. http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/thumb_4/1098209712hdFlkJ.jpg ALL OF YOU At this point the moderators would be well advised to close this thread before this gets out of hand.
  2. http://school.discoveryeducation.com/clipart/images/timeout.gif Let's take a second and calm down here. This won't really get us anywhere we want to be.

  4. I'd be happier with Lowrie at third if we didn't also need him at SS. Green is regressing to the his career levels (read: suck) and Lowrie can't play both positions at once.
  5. Yeah, because that's what I said, rather than, say, "half decent." How about instead of snarking, actually contribute something meaningful to the conversation?
  6. How about you list them because the reason I'm fixated on Teahen is he seems like the only half decent 3B who's clearly available. *sits back and waits for the Scrub Patrol list that's about to be presented* Good third basemen are not easy to find these days.
  7. The Yankees have a need at 3B, at least on the bench. A-Rod is still hurting a little, and needs regular rest just like Lowell does (they're only about a year apart in age and have similar injuries after all...) If we go after a 3B in a waiver deal, the Yankees have every reason to stick their finger in.
  8. That's a sizeable if there, BSN. The last time he played a position other than 1B for extended periods without sustaining an injury was when he was with us.
  9. Remember when they tried to block us from getting Doug Mirabelli back? Now imagine a player that might actually materially improve the team.
  10. I don't see a lot of 1B or 3B going anywhere in a waiver deal. Really good corner infielders are very hard to find right now, whatever the defensive spectrum would have you believe.
  11. As am I. However, that's a lot harder now than it would have been in the offseason. This would be so much simpler if we'd beaten the Yankees to Swisher. He's the guy I really wanted last offseason, the guy who IMHO would have made the most difference, considering he plays 1B and all 3 outfield positions, switch hits and has 25-30HR power he'd be the ideal fit for exactly what we need right now -- if the Yankees hadn't caught Theo napping and got him first.
  12. Lowell's hip problems hadn't flared back up in the offseason. But if you'll think back, I was all for getting Nick Swisher on this team and finding a strong bench 1B and I hated the Kotsay signing for that reason. I wasn't blind to the thought that Lowell would need regular rest. And if you bring up a certain overpaid 1B in this completely unrelated conversation, I refuse to be held liable for the conversation that follows.
  13. I agree completely, they CAN'T just assume that if Lowell is healthy for the next 3-4 weeks he'll remain so for the life of his contract. They HAVE to build some real insurance in behind Lowell at third base. They HAVE to make it VERY easy for Tito to give Lowell regular rest. That doesn't just mean having a guy who can play the position, it means someone who's good enough that Lowell doesn't feel like he has to force himself to play to give the team the best chance to win.
  14. the starter for the Blue Jays tonight has a name that belongs in the Yastrzemski File. along with Mientkiewicz http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/R/Marc-Rzepczynski.shtml mark Rzepcynski. I swear I'm not making this up.
  15. memo to Jacko: Repeating yourself does not constitute proof. I oughta know.
  16. Nomar did us one heck of a favor by rejecting that offer.
  17. Good luck finding a similar player on the market for $5M or less.
  18. OK, then, "point per game pace," Mr. Technical. 11 points in 11 games. 6 goals, 5 assists. Still not a performance to scoff at by any stretch of the imagination.
  19. And he scored about a goal a game in the playoffs, including against the team that ultimately defeated us, and did it with a torn rotator cuff. Playoff competition is the toughest there is, and he didn't just survive there, he thrived. besides, where the hell did you expect a goal scorer to score most of his goals? As long as he's actually scoring against tough competition I don't care if he murders the weaker teams, in fact I'm glad he's doing it. Someone has to. The alternative is pretty embarrassing. Also, Kessel would probably have scored more goals if he was actually getting the share of playoff time most teams' goal scoring leaders get. For some reason he can't buy, beg, borrow or steal his way onto PP unit 1, even though throughout the playoffs our biggest problem -- by a LOT -- was executing the power play. Now, let's see you break it down and actually defend those numbers because there's NWIH he actually scored 81% of his goals against the very worst teams in the NHL so you swallowed some mediot's BS whole on that one, probably based on an exaggerated definition of "worst teams in the NHL."
  20. The conventional wisdom goes that Kessel should be swapped for a D-man. This on a team that already allowed the lowest goals in the NHL last year IIRC. There's a sentiment that we got exposed in the playoffs because we need another puckmover. Completely ignoring the fact that we got exposed in the playoffs largely because two of our best puckmovers were shelved with injuries. When it comes time to move players to improve the roster, you don't start with 21 y ear old 30+ goal wings. There is no overwhelming need to get rid of Phil Kessel. he is doing what he was drafted to do, and doing it well. I know the Bruins love tough guys, but if we can't tolerate a wide mix of skillsets on the Bruins, including light-hitting speed forwards like Kessel, we'll never win anything.
  21. Did you mean to say "appalling" rather than "appealing?"
  22. Yeah, Smoltz, how about throwing something else on the first pitch? While we still have a baseball game?
  23. Could be exciting. he has experience at 1B, and in a backup role it might not matter that he isn't available for a few games at a stretch. Course, I was all for signing the guy in the offseason instead of Mark Kotsay.`
  24. Not against the idea. i think all of us have some guys we wanted and missed out on that we think we can go back and obtain. Maybe after we all fill our rosters there should be a trade window.
