  1. elephant tranks. We can't take any chances at all. Dude is big and very strong. Who's the best shot with a dartgun anyway? No way we're even going to try the close range approach with this guy unless we've softened him up.
  2. He was specifically talking about our chance to get Mauer.
  3. We can make the best sane offer in the world. If the Yankees want the player enough, they will counter with an insane offer. (see Rodriguez, Alex). Simply put at some point we reach the level where we still need to try and be at least somewhat fiscally responsible for the benefit of the long term health of the franchise. For all realistic purposes the Yankees really don't. You think the presence if a 19 year old kid with defensive questions at catcher will stop them from acquiring the best available player at the position? Heck, would it stop us? Besides, Montero can back Mauer up.
  4. Lat's face a simple fact here. The Red Sox are a richest team. One of the richest in the world in fact. The Yankees are about twice as rich as we are. We can make a huge offer for any player we want at any time. The Yankees can improve on that offer if they decide to. Also at any time Those are facts. Even if we are a rich team -- and we are -- no one wins matching checks with the Yankees on a player they decide they want. Teixeira's destination was determined not by those negotiations, but by the gaping Yankee hole at first. That doesn't mean we can't get Mauer. It does mean that if we don't want to run the very real risk of not actually having a shot at him, we will have to do something to even those odds -- such as deal talent to the Twins to get him and thus have an exclusive resigning window.
  5. I'm not counting on Mauer before I know how the Yankees are going to play their long term plans behind the plate. Even if they are not, themselves, desperate for a catcher, NWIH they let the Sox get Mauer.
  6. By then maybe Lavarnway or Exposito will be ready.
  7. Battng average is an incomplete stat.
  8. Final line for Daisuke, 3 ER in 5.1 IP. If that bad hop over Martinez' head falls his way he's probably through 6 with 2 ER. And only a single walk. Again, not great, bot tolerable.
  9. Geeze. How's about actually stranding some runners for a change Ramon?
  10. c'mon, RR, get the ball into the zone.
  11. Not the best outing from Daisuke, but tolerable. His fastball velocity was definitely down in the 6th and it hurt him. Hoping RR can strand those runners.
  12. Heck of a way to get an RBI. Ow.
  13. Heck of an at bat by Youks.
  14. Good old Daisuke. 94 pitches through 5 innings.
  15. I agree. And Gonzalez' OBP is dismal. Gonzalez has been refreshingly not totally sucking with the stick. Anything you get there is a bonus. But let's not mistake him for an actual decent hitter. And yes, given the choice I would take a stab at trading Delcarmen for Hardy (our talented underpefromer for yours, classic trade premise)
  16. I'd call that HR pretty forgivable. For some reason Luke Scott is just a Sox killer. Daisuke looking good out there again. It would be huge if he could keep this up.
  17. That and speedy singles hitters tend to decline very suddenly. He'll go from awesome to useless in about 5 seconds not long after he's signed.
  18. I'm happy with anything over 95. No 95 win season is ever a bad season.
  19. I think that's a little optimistic. Lucic doesn't have the offensive chops of Kessel but he's got high potential as a power wing and if he scores 25+ this year -- a very attainable goal -- and plays his usual physical game, he could make a lot more than #3M/year.
  20. No. Not even in the playoffs. You'll wear everyone down if you just send the same guys every night. Granted you should see the backups a whole lot less but you're never going to have an Ironclad 9 that can all play every October game.
  21. Holy crap that's a lot of picks. Good eye, LNM. That Chiarelli quote should change things. If Kessel didn't want to be here, I don't want him here.
  22. Oh. Probably not then.
  23. We've already had Buehrle and Sanchez,.
  24. Not the best comparison. Alex Auld followed that up with a pretty decent result backing up in Ottawa. As a goaltender Auld is probably underrated.
