  1. In Dipre's lexicon, a move that doesn't work is always, automatically a legendarily bad move. Whether it was the right thing to try at the time or not. Ask him about last night when Tito pushed all the right buttons and it worked out well? Punk got lucky, he still sucks. Any argument he makes is an exercise in justifying his prejudices.
  2. Tito makes a difference in exactly the areas he most needs to in order to shepherd a talented roster to the World Series. He is a master of handling the media, deflecting pressure from individual players, smoothing conflicts between players, and holding the clubhouse together. He is also, at the very worst, not so bad a strategist that it negates his other advantages. In short he's got just about exactly the same managerial skillset as Joe Torre.
  3. Indeed. Apparently.
  4. That brings up an interesting point. You know as well as I do how an umpire can unconsciously shrink the strike zone on a wild pitcher. Fuentes did himself no favors in the sequence of events leading up to that walk.
  5. Napoli had to go down and get it. He probably hurt his pitcher on the call. It was at best borderline and I've probably seen that same pitch get called a ball a hundred times. If the pitch was too close to take, it was also too close to throw with your team up 1 run, full count and the bases jacked. And Green NOTICEABLY struggling during the at bat. Fuentes needed to challenge Green there, not go corner seeking.
  6. And apparently Green's hurting. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090917&content_id=7013458&vkey=news_bos&fext=.jsp&c_id=bos
  7. Youks has averaged 145 games played a year over the last three and a big part of the reason it hasn't been more has been a combination of HBP's and the corner infield crunch. Yastrzemski played his way into injuries, he was on the field so much. He would have been a better player if he'd taken breaks more regularly to keep his health up. Sometimes it's about more than a momentary machismo.
  8. Finally got a chance to see that Fuentes pitch. It was close, But it was low. The very most you can say about it is that it might have been a strike with some umpires. That one had consistently called that pitch a ball all night.
  9. This thread isn't morbid at all. And yeah, Nomar's career wasn't as long as we might have liked, but a bust he ain't. Ditto for Nixon who was mentioned earlier in the thread..
  10. Simple question: IF we discard Varitek -- and it's looking increasingly like we will -- is next year's backup catcher in the system of will we be going for a traditional defense first veteran? I could stand giving Dusty Brown a shot. Wagner, Kottaras, and in theory Otness are also in house options for next year.
  11. Thank you, kind sir.
  12. Interesting point. The pitcher certainly did a lot to narrow the strike zone.
  13. So? We still don't want to hear it from someone else. It's like YOTN said. It's standard human herd mentality. One of "us" says it, it's just an aside between fans. An outsider says it, that's an attack and needs to be dealt with accordingly. We know it's a bad call. We don't need you telling us that. And you don't need the aggrivation. I recommend moving on and doing something else for awhile..
  14. Like I said, Y228, we'd just had a walkoff win in a game we'd given up on. No one really wants to hear how we shouldn't have won the game right now. Give us a second to come down from the walk-off high. I'm sure you understand what I mean.
  15. Forgive us, I beg you. We'd written this game off. Emotions are a little high right now.
  16. Gonzo is our Orlando Cabrera this year.
  17. How many things went Tito's way after he started making moves? EAT IT HATERS!
  18. Gimme a second, dude. I'll come down from the high in a minute. For now I spam.
