  1. The alternative to this team manhandling Jeff Weaver is Buchholz vs. Kazmir in an elimination game.
  2. Rask should get the next start, and probably he'd have gotten it anyway, so we'll see what we have there.
  3. The only positions where you want to give the 2004 squad a clean advantage are C, DH and LF. The 2009 version has clear edges at 2B, 1B, and RF. Call me a homer but considering what both guys actually provided over their tenure here I'll call OCab and AGon a wash, and the aging third basemen with burgeoning lower body problems are a wash as well. I'm not even sure where to rate Ellsbury and Damon in comparison with each other. I have no idea how to handle the speed vs. OPS question and Damon had a career season in '04.
  4. And even if that's true it's nowhere NEAR time to panic yet. And you know it. I mean -- an older player takes a few games to get back on form. We've sure never seen that before.
  5. Especially because he's, you know, still recovering from surgery. Kessel is entirely neutral in the offseason analysis until he's actually healthy.
  6. Sorry, for some reason I'm focused on a the baseball playoffs still. Seriously, you want me to mount an impassioned defense of Thomas and you feel that the reason I need to do so is two bad games at the start of the season? You already know exactly why I don't need to do that.
  7. Yeah, the officiating didn't put us behind, but it sure as heck made it harder to come back.
  8. Command performance there for RR.
  9. Lovely. Gnight all.
  10. The question of whether what they play in the NBA can actually be called basketball is an open one. Was nice to see the Celtics win. But what would be nicer is if they actually brought back the offensive foul and the 3 second rule.
  11. http://www.indianspice.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/depressed-man.jpg
  12. And if he flies out on the warning track, you aren't here right now in this thread saying he should have let a struggling, wild pitcher pitch him on base if he was going to do so? With Ortiz to follow? Just asking.
  13. Never underestimate the capacity of human stupidity.
  14. Throw strikes, Jon. Seriously.
  15. this will definitely be a tainted win by someone.
  16. Inexcusable comes close. Castig is making the point that Bucknor isn't even moving to get into position to make the call correctly.
  17. WEEI crew is crucifying the umpires. They deserve it.
  18. Bucknor does it again.
  19. Wow. Castiglione going after the umpires. He never does that.
  20. The pitch Youk fouled off after the gift struke (because you gotta protect the plate) is also a ball.
  21. THE BASES SHOULD BE LOADED FOR ORTIZ RIGHT NOW. We are getting abused by the MIB.
  22. Agreed. Terrible strike calling tonight.
