  1. I think Jacko's right here. Beckett > Lackey, Beckett money > Lackey money. Maybe not by a ton in either case, but by enough.
  2. One of these days his act will stop being funny and he'll be gone. Again.
  3. OK yyeeaaaahhhhhh no.
  4. More info required. For all I know right now it might even surprise us and be an average idea.
  5. Also of the first pitch RBI triple. Garciaparra is the closest thing we've had in forever to a "true" 5 tool player.
  6. Nice one, Ells. Boy, I hope he keeps THIS up in the regular season.
  7. So it's pretty clear Adam Mills will not be breaking camp with the Sox this year. David Pauley redux.
  8. He's been unable to remain healthy and effective on the field since he left Boston. maybe this will break the shortstop curse.
  9. I know that. That's why it's a pity. We could have used what he used to be, that doesn't mean I've deluded myself into thinking he still is that.
  10. It's a pity we're only getting him back now. Especially since we were actually looking for maybe a backup SS this year.
  11. So will he wear batting gloves just so that he can adjust them before the camera rolls?
  12. They need to look at their coaching and training staffs and their manager's approach, like the Sox had to do in 2006. This many different kinds of pitchers' arm injuries don't happen in a vacuum.
  13. It's a collecter's item now. A Jacoby Ellsbury rookie jersey. It'll be worth thousands someday.
  14. BTW -- I like Jacoby Ellsbury for all the obvious reasons, plus one more -- he's a member of my faith.
  15. bounces back in what sense? Pedroia may have been "below his career averages" -- by about .007 OPS -- but he was definitely still way above the league average for a 2B. He doesn't get a bounceback, he just gets to improve on another solid year.
  16. The only way we trade Wakefield is if he's done, and we want to pick up someone else's salary drop. They trade for wake, which is to say nothing, Wake retires, forfeiting the balance of his contract, we pick up the other team's contract and save a few mil.
  17. If Wakefield was traded, he would retire. He's SAID EXACTLY THAT, so we can forget about trading wakefield.
  18. Kid's 22 and he's a good bet to start in AAA. He's not one of those 85 MPH slop tossers and he has a good K rate in the minors. There's at least 5 teams in this league where he'd be competing as at least a longshot for a rotation spot this year. The only reason we haven't lost him to the Rule V draft was the FO was smart enough to add him to the 40-man at age 20. If he doesn't have a place on the team, he'd be a good makeweight in a trade.
  19. I'd be interested as Spring goes on, about any more Felix Doubront sightings. He did fairly well today and he may be a dark horse for the last spot in the pen. Certainly I expect him to serve in Boston at some point this year, as an injury replacement if nothing else.
  20. This message is hidden because Dipre is on your ignore list.
  21. Blah blah blah. I don't have to read the latest Dipre wall o'text to know exactly what you say anymore. You sure love to hear the sound of your own electronic "voice" condemning and criticizing other people, doncha? God, get over yourself. No one made you judge, jury and executioner of this forum, and I do not answer to you in any way. Go do your Internet lawyering somewhere else, I'm sick of your act. You are on "ignore" for the forseeable future.
  22. He was a first baseman. How valuable can a glove really be at first base? Certainly he was no great shakes as a third baseman, and Youkilis has a much higher fielding percentage at third. I don't mean to take anything away from Scott, especially since he's from a different era, but if a guy like him was playing today we'd all be in favor of him sitting on the bench for some big home run hitter.
  23. Not really surprising. Just be grateful that people are mentioning names earlier than the last, say, 6 years. I dunno guys, we don't want to set the old days on a pedestal. it's hard to deny that Scott was one of the driving forces behind some great years for the Red Sox but I think Youks is a match for Scott on the defensive side of the ball, certainly he's a better 3B, and there's no doubt he's miles better offensively.
