  1. That one may be on Tito. You have to swing on a hit and run.
  2. Crawford had been having a good game today too.
  3. One start after it was in the high 5's, Miller's got his ERA back into the mid 4's. Keep it up kid.
  4. Well there's Reddick on base again. He wants that .400 average back.
  5. He's still much more efficient at the moment than he was early on. Looks like Miller's fate in most games is going to be determined by how he gets through the early innings.
  6. With a bit of luck, Miller could get through 6+. He's about 70 pitches through 4. That's not terrible. He needs to have a good 5th though. I'm afraid he might get run.
  7. Gonzo swung at 3 different nonstrikes.
  8. Lefties don't find it easy to homer at the Fens. THat's a deel right field even with the bullpen. Fenway hitters are smart when they focus on doubles production. Most of our best hitters over the last few years have been more line drive types than blasters. Ortiz is an exception. Even Manny was first and foremost a make-quality-contact type. He could just match it with real righthanded power.
  9. Currently our most replaceable players are our shortstop and our RF.
  10. Was.... was that a 1-2-3 inning? From... Miller? On only 9 pitches????? WHAT CRAZY WORLD IS THIS???
  11. Velocity is fine, command as always needs work. I've seen him hit 93 pretty consistently and the O's are having real trouble lining him up.
  12. That's ridiculous. Salty was a well regarded prospect who's playing well as a catcher. There's no reason to suggest that he should move on at this point. Furthermore, he's playing well above average for his position and his bat is above average this season among all big league hitters.. That's not "replaceable." Not for a guy who can put in a season behind the dish. Salty is easily in range to finish the season with 12-15 HR's or more and an .800 OPS+. Combine that with the fact that he's grading out roughly average at catcher, and he's respectable there -- about where Varitek was when he just started there. People forget just how much improving Varitek did as a catcher after he debuted. Salty's on the same track IMHO.
  13. Alright, the veteran brings one in. They really needed something out of that, and goy it. Good enough.
  14. Scutaro, Tek batting lefty, and a rookie who doesn't play a lot, with 2 runners in scoring position. Lovely.
  15. Miller no-hitter through 3.
  16. Reddick was Working On Things in the minors. We know the team doesn't pay a lot of attention to minor league numbers, they look for tools and skillsets. Reddick was trying to improve a skillset that the FO had let him know was a bit of a dealbreaker -- in this case, Reddick was working on his hitting discipline, which has significantly improved from a guy with an ISoD of like .030 a few years ago in A ball.
  17. Ryan Dempster is not a bottom of the rotation pitcher.
  18. No but it probably does mean you're spoiled enough to hold catchers to an unrealistic standard. You've pretty much just admitted that Salty is above average for a catcher, so why don't we just call this a day, hmm?
  19. Well with that kind of evidence to back up your position, who am I to argue? He's neither below average, nor is a catcher who can slug .450 particularly easy to replace. And while the hot sun and the tools of ignorance probably do his fragrance no favors, I'm pretty sure that's not what you're talking about. 21 teams would kill to have Saltalamacchia on their squad at the moment.
  20. pff, please, His overall numbers are a .771 OPS at the moment (.240/.320/.452), which is well above average from the catching position, and is in fact above average for hitters in general. You get .450 slugging and average OBP from the catching position you're doing well. His glove and arm are both average, neither an asset nor a liability. Taken as a whole the guy is pretty much replicating what you could have expected from Varitek in an average year, at least in terms of the numbers, and that's with a month and a half uberslump thrown in. He'd have to really tail off before he's in any way a spare part. Also, I suppose using the same logic that people use to defend Crawford, to back up a guy who's indisputably been worth the investment so far, is so evil. I don't think Salty will ever be where Tek was defensively, but he's got the upside to reach heights of offense Varitek couldn't touch, and he's already a better defender than VMart. This kid could easily be a star for us.
  21. Yankees do seem to want to be well rid of Montero for some reason. I suspect that's why other teams are shying away. We've all seen this song and dance before. When it comes to Yankee prospects, trust but verify.
