  1. Well if you can, that's what he's doing right now. Giving up a base hit to Dunn was borderline inexcusable.
  2. He doesn't have the ability to warm up quickly. Maybe with some time in the minors he could get used to it but time is one of the things we're short of. I'd like to get him in the bullpen for a year or two to teach him situational pitching, since it's one of his bigger weaknesses, but I don't think Miller would thrive there in the last few months of a playoff year.
  3. He's gotta get reps with his new mechanics. Once he gets 'em down and they're automatic, then he needs to forget that he ever had a shoulder and just throw. Until you've broken some of the bad habits, though, there's no alternative to him being out there thinking about his pitches on the mound.
  4. Just pound the middle of the strike zone kid, and let your natural movement distribute the ball.
  5. Considering all the truly fatal damage in 06 happened after the deadline, that's not necessarily a bad thing. I don't think picking up a true #1 SP woulda helped us that year. Dark horse acquisition: Carlos Zambrano. Cubs want to clear the contract, he's an innings machine, won't kill your prospect pool because his stock isn't at its highest.
  6. If I was the Sox, I'd give another look to a couple of the AAA guys, especially Doubront and Weiland, to see if they could help in the playoffs if called upon to do so. Maybe even go as far as to give Tony Pena, Jr. an audition, I've heard good things about his stuff down in Pawtucket.
  7. This is Rich Harden. The only surprise here is that they're surprised.
  8. There's this scuttlebut rumor from unreliable sources that we're back in. Take it for less than what it's worth.
  9. No, nor even a Jeff Karstens
  10. The voices in his head. Good rumor tho I almost hope we get him just so we can have Baldy pitching to Salty.
  11. Actually Vitek isn't having a great year, but he still does have a chance. Good plate discipline, but I'm not sure he has the power to hack it as a 3B
  12. This new news about the physical is alarming, especially without context. I suspect that this was leaked by the Yankees as a bit of bargaining gamesmanship to bring the price back within their range. Good move by them if true.
  13. WHen you're investing this much talent on a fastball-splitter guy? Absofreakinglutely. You don't buy a guy like that sight unseen. Physical is a reasonable request. That's a dealbreaker for me. You have to be able to check for obvious problems. It's like inspecting a car for purchase and finding out the VIN has been filed off. It's suspicious at least.
  14. That's... hard to say. We'll be hard up for replacements for the next little while, and of course there's no telling who's gonna fizzle. It'd become ticklish for awhile. If we need to replace anyone big over that time we might have a cascading problem where we have to trade and deplete our farm system because the farm system is depleted. That's how dynasties tend to end. So no that one deal won't kill us, but it'll get us closer to that cascade scenario than I'd like to be.
  15. THey've cleared out 6 years worth of studs in the last 4 years. We *are* depleting the farm system faster than prospects are emerging.
  16. If we lose Middlebrooks and Lavarnway, we won't have a lot of high end guys that are close, especially since Navarro was also in our top 10, which he eanred given his age and minor league performance. We'll still have quite a bit of talent at AA and below, but the high end guys less than 18 months away will be negligible in both quality and quantity.
  17. Weiland, Middlebrooks, Ranaudo, Lowrie, would be tempting.
  18. You guys don't have a #2, so I'd loook a bit closer to hope there pal.
  19. I don't think either NYY or BOS had the wherewithal to match that.
  20. High risk, high reward move for the Guardians, and it suggests very strongly that they'll be up to the neck on both Fielder and Pujols.
