The Official 2010 Hot Stove Thread.
Jacoby_Ellsbury replied to Spudboy's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
I haven't been following this thread very closely, but how can you say that there's no chance that the front office will re-sign a guy when there's still an entire season to go before the decision has to be made? I mean I could see if this was the D-Backs or Marlins we were talking about here... -

If you're so confident in your abilities and my lack of, well, whatever it is you say that I lack, why not counter what I said and prove just how smart you supposedly are and how dumb/unruly I supposedly am? You have nothing. That 'outline' contained no argument, it was just a recap of idiotic points that you made, that I countered, that you didn't counter. You cited arena dominance that your justification for that for hating LeBron but having nothing against Arenas or Shaq (if player arrogance really irks you that much [lol], I don't know how you could justify being more bothered by LeBron than Arenas and Shaq). Arena f***ing dominance. I don't know how much more irreleveant you can get (and you're also dead wrong in Shaq's case). You just keep digging bigger and bigger holes for yourself. I don't like to type the same argument twice if I don't have to. You didn't give a relevant response the first time around, yet regurgitated the exact same s*** I called you out on. In response to you actually admitting that you hold a rapist in higher regard than LeBron, who is guilty (to you) of being an attention whore and thinking too highly of himself. I actually did not know what exactly to say to something like that (you approving more of a rapist - your words - than someone you just think loves himself and loves attention too much). So I just went with 'do you listen to yourself'. Jealousy was the only possible reason I could see for what you were saying, and you admitted to being jealous anyway in response. So what's the problem? Well, you never did explain what that had slop had to do with anything. Not like you could possibly justify the garbage you had written there, but you'd at least be a little more credible if you admitted you were dead wrong. There. Called all your bluffs, and managed to embarrass you further. Keep it coming. That's nice. Trolling is what I hope you've been doing this whole post, because there's no way a functional person could be that ignorant/oblivious. You blew this much time trying to sell yourself as the good guy, the white knight, and all that good stuff, and STILL made no effort anywhere to counter the points I kindly re-quoted for you (and you effectively re-quoted as well) and exposed you for completely ignoring. Awesome. You could at least make this somewhat difficult for me. You claim I'm an easy win? Show it. Do what you think LeBron should do more of, stick by his words. I'll be waiting.

There was the word out there, but given how rumor-crazed that whole period of time was, I don't think many people took it seriously. I remember Thursday morning/day all the usual pundits were still speculating, only giving a slight nod to the Miami rumor. I'd have to check, but I'm pretty sure Cleveland knew right before the show started as well. They didn't find out with the rest of us. Probably. Who is?

This post (there's also a large quote war in there that makes this post a lot bigger, so click the backtrack link) was my counter to every uber-retarded point ital had made to that point and since (because he's just been repeating himself). The only thing he responded with was some drivel about him choosing his fights wisely, countering absolutely none of the relevant info in my post. Your move, Forrest.

Really? Link them, then link the counter arguments I made, then link your counters to those. As we've already established, you got plenty of time. Or maybe I'm just the only one willing to fully call you out on your stupidity. Y228's just more understanding than me, and for whatever reason can identify easier with something as hilarious petty/stupid as hating a person whom you've never met, just because you feel he's full of himself. The fact that you're citing other people's takes on your posts now is pretty funny. I'm winning anyway, by a mile. At worst I'm winning by forfeit, since neither of you two ever counter with anything, just voice the same old moronic s*** over and over and over, like you never even saw what I wrote. You bringing up the draft just proves further that you're scrambling and flopping about for literally anything you can get on me, since it's pretty obvious that I smoked you and Keeper here (unfortunately it's probably past tense now, I'd love to keep making fools out of you two). Pot, kettle, black. Pot, kettle, black. And yet, you never counter anything I've supposedly gotten wrong. You just, as you put it in regards to me, 'stand there with your hands covering your ears saying "No it isn't" to everyone's arguments and then "I'm beating you, I'm winning" rather than actually making arguments in and of themselves.

But you don't argue that contraction would help the league, right? I don't think it matters who the message comes from, since you'd be hard-pressed to argue that contraction would be a bad thing. Yes, LeBron has played with and is probably currently playing with guys who would be negatively affected by it, but that's just tough. Who knows, he might have just said it because he knows it would leave 2/3 of his 'supporting cast' back in Cleveland without jobs.
-
At the risk of sounding unoriginal... I'm already doing a damn fine job of it. Neither of you two jackasses have been able to respond to me with anything resembling a valid argument (that's when you even respond at all), so your confidence is a little misplaced.

You're a petty idiot. You're a petty idiot. Cleveland deserved notice? News to me. Valid. You're a petty idiot. Why does Cleveland deserve to have advance notice? They didn't have the cap room to sign anyone of use anyway. Given what we know about Gilbert, LeBron was probably convinced that had he given him notice that he was leaving his team, Gilbert probably would have leaked the word that Miami was the choice. Ruining the show. Yay. In a previous post you mentioned him talking about contraction as stupid. How? It should be obvious to everyone that contraction is exactly what this league needs. The talent is spread way too thin. People have brought up that contraction would put a bunch of his fellow players out of NBA jobs, but tough s***. The truth hurts. Don't worry, it's not. Keeper and ital are just anal and hate seeing people lead better lives than them. He has no rings because the f***tards running the Cavs thought Mo Williams, Antawn Jamison, Daniel Gibson, an ancient Shaq, and big Z was a viable supporting cast. Or Drew Gooden, Larry Hughes, and Eric Snow back in the mid-2000s. I thought this was common knowledge. Had he ended up staying in Cleveland, no one would be bitching about him leading on the Heat and the Knicks. So this is crap, since it just goes right back to you being sour that he chose Miami. So? Cleveland required no advance notice. They were f***ed if he left the franchise one way or the other, even if Amare or someone had still been on the market. Gilbert would have had that comic sans meltdown one way or the other. Oh, so now having a championship as the ultimate goal is gutless. You're a clown. And him teaming with Derrick Rose and Boozer in Chicago wouldn't be piggybacking at all, right? Despite Rose's ascension to MVP level this season (he has a reliable 3pt shot, so he'd be an even better compliment to LeBron), and Boozer having a more inside game than Bosh while putting up fairly similar numbers. Would that have been piggybacking, Chicago fan? You know, you really shouldn't be walking around without a helmet. How is signing with an actual proven team a sign of not being a 'true competitior'? If Magic and Bird had ever teamed up (not that they would need to, since they had actual supporting casts), their rings would be just as valid as anyone's. You're just mad because you don't think it's fair for the rest of the league. You must think that Kobe forcing Shaq and Phil out of LA in 2004 was a sign that he was a REAL competitior, right? Everyone here knows that had LeBron gone to Chicago and teamed up with Rose and Boozer, you'd be ten times worse than all of the people you accuse of hanging from LeBron's nuts. Really, you're just a fluff-obsessed, ultra anal, very typical Joe Fan who has absolutely no idea what he's talking about (like all Joe Fans), and carries eternal grudges against basketball players whom he doesn't even know, because they either snubbed his team or he just thinks they're too happy and rich and full of themselves, since they don't have to man Burger King's drive-thru window all day, like you. Is this a joke? Do the words 'Michael' and 'Jordan' ring a bell to you? This is a legit whiff on his part, he obviously doesn't embrace the 'villain' role nearly as much as he said. You're f***ing stupid. Actually the correct answer is 'no', but go on. Wow. You are dumber than a bag of hammers. For one thing, that was LeBron's fourth year. If you'll recall, Jordan didn't win a title until his sixth, (so he obviously wasn't really 'Air Jordan' until his sixth season). Either way, the fact that LeBron actually GOT that team to the Finals was incredible, considering the utter dogshit the Cavs had put around him and called a 'team'. Give fourth year Jordan a supporting cast of Z, Drew Gooden, Daniel Gibson, and Larry Hughes, and see how far that gets you. OOOOOOOOOOOOO. Lemme guess, you agree with ital that a rapist should be held in higher regard that someone who you just think to be full of himself? Of course they would. LeBron's biggest mistake in The Decision was giving all those bitchy Clevelanders (and idiots nationwide) a crutch on which to slam LeBron for his decision, by claiming that he's an attention whore for having a TV special, when everyone knows that he'd have been flamed anyway for dumping poor old Cleveland.
-
Why would they stop? LeBron's a meanie and he needs to feel their wrath.
-
No they're not.
-
It says 'how does it feel to be a sidekick?', even though he's not a sidekick. I guess anal Cavs fans easily confuse being a sidekick with actually having a team around him.

A much needed dose of intelligence in here. I was getting tired of carrying.

And I'm pointing out just how butthurt you are. What did I do poorly? Shaq and Arenas blow LeBron away in terms of aggressive, irrelevant, non-sensical trash talk. This is a fact. The arena dominance speech by you was just a pathetic attempt to reconcile everything here. There it is again. What's more annoying than some guy making 'Hibachi' one of his nicknames and yelling it after every shot, or another guy constantly referring to another team as the Sacramento Queens? You really, really suck at this. Because you're both clowns who get off on whining about him every chance you get. Suns could never make you look this stupid. Nice try.
-
You mean LeBron has joined Favre in being one of the very few people who can jam a stick into the hornet hive that is ESPN and cause a guaranteed mulitple week-long shitstorm? What's so bad about that? And this has nothing to do with anything. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH LEBRON GAVE ME SOMETHING TO WATCH THAT THURSDAY NIGHT OTHER THAN EARLY JULY BASEBALL WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH Do you people listen to yourselves? So you hold a rapist in much higher regard than a person involved in no harmful or criminal activity who held a one hour special in July? Again, do you listen to yourself? Jealousy? Resentment?
-
That's no excuse for the insane stupidity that flares up in every LeBron topic.

Anthony's always been a pretty decent rebounding SF, but what else is he giving you? His defense is 'competent', while the other guys I mentioned are above average and excellent. He's not much of an outside shooter either. Anthony would help in the half court game, but I don't know how well he translates to the running game (utilizing him as a reliable halfcourt 2pt scorer and a decent rebounder to start the break probably isn't the best use of all those dollars). Except that those three are easily Anthony's superiors in terms of making plays for others, fast decision making or not.

You act like running teams can't win the championship. The reason it doesn't work in the playoffs (or hasn't, for a while) is because so many of the recent up-tempo teams suck at defense, for whatever reason (lack of fundamentals, lack of good defensive players, too tiring, whatever). You get stops, you get the rebound, you can run the floor, easy basket. Easy pezy. It can work. Obviously D'Antoni would have to adjust his ridiculous rotation patterns a bit for this to work, so he doesn't run everyone into the ground. Amare can provide ample half court scoring. Iguodala or Jackson provide better defense on the wings than Melo (Jackson's shooting fits into the offense very well, Iggy is a great defender and was practically made for a fast break team), and will bring other important things to the table other than the pure scoring you're stuck with if Melo comes to town. Melo just does the one thing - score. He does it very well (aside from a lack of a 3pt shot), but that's it. He doesn't rebound or defend particularly well, he doesn't do a whole lot of creating for others either. He'll stagnate the ball in a system least designed for it. Since scoring is the least of NY's worries, I'd opt for the additional defense and more well-rounded skillsets. Rebounding can be had. Dalembert wants out of Sacramento, I'm sure if the two teams bothered to contact each other at some point, they'd find a Curry for Dalembert swap makes plenty of sense for everyone. Both are expiring, the Maloofs shed $2 million in salary from a terrible team, the Knicks get a defensive presence inside. The Blazers with Camby is a possibility. Turiaf, Gallo, Azibuike, and Randolph/the 1st they'd get for flipping him elsewhere works for Iggy. We covered Curry for Dalembert. This is do-able. Obviously I know that just because I propose it on a message board doesn't mean it's going to happen (since we all know that the NY papers, personalities, and most fans would s*** a collective chicken if the Knicks traded Melo's cap space for some Andre Iguodala guy), but I'm just saying, the Knicks do have options.
