    I don't have the stats in front of me - but pretty sure he was doing OK offensively before he got DLed. Yeah - if you take a longer window - he is an automatic out.

    Sometime back I suggested that it will be really hard to watch Tek for another year as we do not have a replacement in place and we should go after Posada for a year putting Tek in bench. That did not go so well with the RSN, It is a sacrilage to have doubts about the captain in the nation - very similar to questioning Jeter in the Yankee team. Varitek has been horrible offensively since ASB of 2005. In the field - he can't throw my grandmother out if she tries to steal second. But he has even sucked what his intangible asset used to be - developing young pitchers and pitch calling. For now he is safe because the bench has great players like Cash and Belli.

    I think playoff matchups are interesting. This is what conventional wisdom tells me based on regular season: Angels : Red Sox - advantage Sox. Angels :Yankees - advantage Angels. Cleveland :Red Sox - advantage Cleveland Cleveland :Yankees - advantage Yankees Red Sox : Yankees - advantage Yankees. Conventional wisdom could be wrong because of at least two reasons: 1. Playoff match ups tend to be different. 2. Law of average. I am happy we are playing the Angels even though I think they could have knocked the Yankees out. Personally I would rather take the chances of Sox advancing than the Yankees being out of it. I think there is a better than 50% chance of Yankee/Sox ALDS.
