  1. He pitched a great game, and it was a legit hit not some swing bunt single off the end of the bat. If you are going to be pissed with a win and a dominate outing to snap a losing streak are you really a Sox fan? & last I checked Shannon Stewart is in the Majors and lets see you get one pitch by him.
  2. Were you hoping he would just lay down in a one run game?
  3. Kendall is going to break it up with a drag bunt a la Ben Davis.
  4. Both Nomo and Dice-K were in there prime as a rookie. By the end of Nomo's second season he has tossed a no hitter in Coor's Field, and struck out 18 in one game. The only argument I can make fo Dice-K being a better pitcher is he is pitching in a tougher division.
  5. So you are expecting him to hit at a .310 clip and collect around 100 more hits with the reminder of the season? Do you really think he can average close to 1 hit a game for the reminder of the season?
  6. That is a stretch, the guy has never stayed healthy, if he did not break his wrist then he would have missed games for other reasons. If a player's track record is pointing to him being injury prone and he did miss most of the 2005 season because he was injured, how can you make a claim that he would have played in 140+ games? Lets face it, if it wasn't the wrist in 2005 it would have been something else, just look at what he has done in the past. Please don't let his stats for last year fool you. Grady Little coddled him to 131 starts giving him days off, and only using him as a pinch hitter. The man never plays all out, and since he does have that injury clause in his contract look for him to really holding back to collect his paycheck. So if all you are looking to get with 70 million is a player that can barely mange to play 130 games bat .280 and maybe hit 20 then he is your man, and Theo was right and everyone else in baseball is wrong. Personally I think the jacks would have been better spent teaching a dyslexic person how to play Scrabble.
  7. But you got to admit, there is no way his shoulder will hold up in the final two years of this contract so the Sox will be able to void the last couple of years. Are you guy getting sick of his half-assed strikeout pose? I wonder how many games he can play if he goes all out? o/u - 68
  8. Lugo, is doing pretty well. Even though he is not hitting for average, he does have over 30 RBIs and he is 17 for 17 on SBs. Drew is either going to make Theo the smartest man in baseball since he is the only person that thought Drew is worth the 11 million the Dodgers were paying him, or he will go down as the guy that gave a guy with a good looking swing that has never done anything 70 million as long as he gives 75% to stay off the DL. Kind of like Depodesta falling in love with Hee Sop Choi and his high OPS even though his swing is about as fast as a retarded kid on Jeopardy.
  9. Why does everyone want to give players changing leagues 2 years before calling the player out? Seattle thought gave Beltre 2 years and look where they are at. Gary Sheffield's numbers did not change when he changed leagues. Ivan Rodriguez's number were also pretty close the one year he played in the NL. When was the last time a 70 million dollar player in his prime was removed late in a close game because the catcher would have given them a better chance to win the game?
  10. Well 1/3 of the season is in the books. How much time are you guys willing to give JD to turn it around?
  11. Say he gets the same offer from NY and Boston?
  12. Opps, I ment Gil Meche of KC. Irabu threw 100mph in Japan, and we all know how well he did here. The Matthew deal was bad, but it was because of deals like that that drove up the price for players like Lugo. Hmm, people looked at Labron James' game while he was in highschool and thought his game will lead him to being a superstar in the NBA. Dice-K pitching in a League that is closer to the Majors then highschool basketball is to the NBA. Just because you have not seen it doesn't make it a reach.
  13. So, if your boss fires you, and on your way out the door tells everyone you are on the deline and are not worth the money you deserve. You would take him up on an offer while there are two other offers that can give you the ability of working closer to home, or for The Other Company just to stick it to Boston?
  14. Who would you sign for $30 million? If Gary Matthews Jr. is worth 10 million a year for 5 years, who can you get to play SS for $30? Shortstop needed an upgrade, and the Sox upgraded. Your assessment on Dice-K is not fair. There are no standards to measure the guy because all Japanese players need 10 years of service before being granted FA, or they can be posted by their Japanese clubs.(you can thank Nomo for this one) Most pitchers coming from Japan will be in their late 20s to early 30s after 8-10 years of service and having been worked into the ground with high pitch counts. Dice-K is special, he was a pro at 18, and he mows down batters because of his command. Not because he is blowing away Japanese hitters with a straight 100mph fastball. His command translated at every level he pitched on, and the sick part is he is still getting better. Ohh, and him having a rubber arm helps too. His contract is a very good deal. If Mench is worth 11 million a year for over 5 years then Dice-K is a steal at 6 years 52 million. The posting fee paid by Boston will be easily recouped with the revenue generated with his signing.
  15. Without Kevin Brown in Game 7 you may not have won the WS.
  16. Why would he sign with the team that thought he was finished 10 years ago?
  17. What else do you want? Theo upgraded the 2 positions that the Sox were weak at, and added a number 1 starter in his prime with the cost way below market value. Would you be happy with Larry and Theo if they would have landed Sorano, Zito, and Schmitt along with the pickups they made? Last I checked, the Bo-Sox did not need to worry about payroll and long term contracts. As long as the front office main focus is about winning, and not just the bottom line. Boston will be a blank check every off season to upgrade and fill-in holes just like the Yankees.
  18. Are you satisfied with having a .500 pitcher (I think that is his ceiling) once every 5 days? You know that is all you are going to get with him. His knuckle might dance one night and he will be lid up like a Christmas tree the next outing.
