  1. Penny may help the Sox this season after all.
  2. Heilman is reported to have been claimed by a NL team. No one has reported on Harden's mystery team last I knew. But yes Harden would be a nice SP to add if he's healthy.
  3. Ok, I didn't consider that angle. Anyways, can anyone actually remember the last player that had a descending AAV contract? Yje whole idea sounds good in theory, but is it even practiced in MLB? I honestly don't know. What my first instincts are telling me is it doens't happen often. But I could be wrong of course, not actually looking it up and all. More guess work than anything:D
  4. When I first read about Harden being claimed, I thought the same thing. Chicago will not let him go cheaply thought. He's due to be a type A FA.
  5. Don't most contracts sustain or go up(back loading) in AAV over the life of the contract?
  6. Nope because they could move him to 1B/DH and Youk to 3B permanently after next season when Lowell contracts up. The sign Mauer to Catch. That's a awesome 3-4 combo. The Red Sox need to be in on Mauer regardless.
  7. 4 years 45-50M? Would that be enough to get it done?
  8. http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/red-sox/rob-bradford/2009/08/28/bradford-files-importance-keeping-victor-martinez That's a good sign:D
  9. I'm also for one for get into the playoffs any way possibe. Division is really just a bonus and bragging right type deal.
  10. Todd Coffey, RP Rafeal Betancourt, RP Angel Guzman, RP Dan Wheeler, RP
  11. I'm sure they would like to make the Playoffs no matter if it's from the WC or division champs. They can worry about who they play after they get in.
  12. It wouldn't be surprising if that was the case. He has been dominant since coming to Boston. Never really having a rough patch or and bad slump until last season and this season. This might be some of the first real adversity he has had to face of the course of the regular season.
  13. I wasn't cheering for the Yankees directly. More for the Rangers to lose. It helped give a little padding in the WC race is all, while losing no ground to the Yanks. I was hoping they actually would split the series up and the Sox could gain some ground on both fronts. But as long as the Sox are winning and gaining ground somewhere it's all good.
  14. That's the million dollar question. Do they trade him? Or roll the dice that he continues to produce next year? A lot will have to do with who gets +/- from the lineup this off season. If they add a couple hitters then maybe Papi's hot and cold swings won't have that much of an effect. If they keep the same basic lineup, will it be deep enough to off set a extended Papi slump? The Papi issue will have some outside determining factors IMO.
  15. Man it's been awhile. I thought they hadn't been using it for a couple years now. I could very well be wrong though. For some reason I think I read something in 2007 when they were making their big push. I'll try and find something Seems I was mistaken. I retract my earlier statement:D
  16. There have been a few players, Ortiz for example that have had pretty big holes in their swing. But Boston seems to really help correct those guys. I don't think it's too hard to believe that his contact skills will stay the same or become better playing with Boston. I'd be all for Dunn being the DH. Then you have to think about what they are going to do with Papi. He probably has some value in a trade now. But maybe he's finally recovered and we could see him put up decent numbers next year. Or it could be another season of extreme hot and cold streaks. Hard to say. But I don't see the Sox having both on the roster though.
  17. I thought the didn't allow the Rockies to use the Humidor?
  18. Florida is a good call. There might be a chance there. One thing is for sure. I think he will be in the NL. I don't see any AL team picking him up.
  19. The force is detecting sarcasm:D
  20. It is in another Penny thread lol But probably does deserve it's own thread. I thought early last off season that bringing in Penny would be a nice depth move for the #5 spot. Which it was. Penny gave some really quality outings. But was never gonna cut it as a #3. The guy has been bad in the 2nd half of his career. It was one of the reasons I would hope they traded him by now. But with injuries to Dice-K and Wake, it was just not feasible. Overall I think the move is a push. He helped for awhile, he was horrible for awhile. Not the worst out of the #5 spot any how.
  21. When I was a kid(I'm 26) the Pirates were still in the NL East. And I routinely still place them there, even though I really know they have been in the central for awhile now.
