There is no way Beckett gets traded. Rosenthal starts this because the Sox didn't say an absolute "no" to a team that asked about his availability. Why should they do that for any player. It doesn't hurt to listen.
Furthemore to really question Rosenthal and his info and opinions he just said on FSNE that "it would take an elite closer like Lidge to get Beckett". What is he drinking?
If you can't face the fact that Manny has serious issues with the way he plays the game, with ownership and now his fellow players then you are hopelessly blind. You may want to keep him despite his issues but at least recognize the obvious.
No we haven't heard Manny say it but we have heard his agent and his teamates say he has asked to be traded. Drew is a done deal. Face it and don't blame him if Manny gets traded. Again they are independent.
First of all congratulations on being honest about the Igawa signing.
How does getting a #2 make the NYY rotation the best?
please consider the following in your answer. I'm sure you have heard of the progression in innings young pitchers are limited to by most teams approx. +30 innings and if this is abused the pitcher generally suffers an injury or down season. I believe there are stats about this and just saw another article about. My point is Wang had a +80 inning jump. Doesn't this worry you?
Again to me they are independent
Drew is coming whether Manny is traded or not
And Manny will be traded if they get the right offer. Drew or not
Last thing - Manny has asked to be traded again and this time he knows it is not a contract issue unlike other years. What do you think he will be like in 2007 if we don't trade him again. I am not willing to find out
Trot is one of my all time favorites but do you wonder why he has had no action at all in this market and 4 or 5 teams were in on Drew. It is sad to see what injuries have done to him.
As far as Manny goes I don't see the connection. They are signing Drew whether they trade Manny or not. Great Hitter but he quit on the team this year. Did you see "Hot Stove " this week or was it Red Sox this week. Lorretta and Ortiz spoke on Manny. Lorretta was open that the clubhouse was questioning whether Manny was hurt enough not to play this year and Ortiz who usually defends Manny was very quiet and evasive. He backed off the need to have Manny behind him.
What you and I and all the posters think doesn't matter but what his teammates say matter a great deal.
They are valuable to anyone who understands how the game is run today.
It's like going to buy a car when a $5000 sale starts Saturday but you go to scout Friday and say the heck with the $5000 I'll buy it now.
What some of you are missing is there are deals already made by some teams who just agree to wait to announce the signings until the arb deadline goes by. Why would any team announce a signing today when if they wait for Sat or Sun they might not have to give up the pick. The deal can still be done!!!!
I don't know if they will offer Lugo. They probably will but they also don't want him back so there is some risk. I think Drew's deal is done and will be announced this weekend
Also if the Sox get a SS back for Manny they probably won't sign Lugo.
You are completely missing the point. No one compared them as pitchers just your comment that you can't win with 2 pitchers. I just pointed out Verlander was very successful as a rookie with 2 pitches. There are many others with a mediocre 3rd pitch.
I don't care what a pitcher did in college as far as start or close. It is irrelevant! Pap started throughout his minor league career. That is evidence of success as well as half a season with the Sox in 2005. That is a lot more evidence than most young pitchers who come to the MLB wouldn't you agree.
So lets stick to his "stuff". Pap drops to 93-94 not 91. In any case so what. He maintains late movement with good control. I would rather have that than a 96 mph straight fastball.
We are talking about his projection not where he will be next year also it is irrelevant where he rates on the Sox only in regards to #2's throughout MLB.
What players have signed that you think the Sox were interested in. Speier and ???
The only way Cora plays SS is if the Sox went out and got an offensive 2B so why write something like that. If you think he's a lousy GM fine but have better reasons.
Going with this logic Markakis would have been sent to the minors at mid-season or before and H Kendrick wouldn't be the Angels 2b. Both failed miserably in their early opportunity but look pretty good now.
The Red Sox paid $51 mil for 6 years. My guess is this is non-negotiable. There is no precedent for giving any years up. Ichiro did not get the waiver nor did any other posted player and Matsui was a free agent so his 3 year deal doesn't apply.
