  1. You're probably right. I think however that the recent struggles are based mainly on motivation. They just don't get excited for these bad teams. I really think they just expect to beat them. Booing them would get at least some of them fired up, and tell them that we aren't happy. Neither booing or cheering will make much of a difference, but their struggles aren't only because of injuries.
  2. And for the record, I think they wont get booed right away. It takes more than what I think is a minor blip in the road for an all out boo. I agree with jaksonianmarch that if they get behind, that they will get an ear full.
  3. So basically we're telling them that no matter what, we are satisfied with what they are doing. That will really get them motivated....:dunno:
  4. No, they need booing. They need a fire lit under their asses. I'd boo them if I were going to be there. No need to be nice. These aren't 8 year old girls. Enough pampering them with love and cheers. Plus, if they win, or ever just score a run, it will be all cheers again. I seriously doubt booing them will change their play for the worse.
  5. I don't know. Sui had a wrist injury, a very serious one. It is obvious how important your wrist is to your success. He has already had some set backs, with some discomfort. I guess as of now he is feeling no pain, but he is only swinging with his right hand, and is limited to a light bat. Plus, by the time they return, minor league season will be done, which means no rehab assignment. They are both a ways away, so I wouldn't bank on those dates yet. By playoff time, they should be good to go, and murderer's row pt. 2 will be back in full form, but I don't know how useful they'll be for the stretch run.
  6. This isn't going to be an easy game. The O's generally play us hard, not this year though. I saw Loewen start vs. the Mariners at Camden Yards a few weeks ago, and he overpowered them. Plus he is a lefty, and the Sox suck verse lefties. Hopefully Wells pitches a good game. We need to win some games. This was the easiest stretch in the schedule all year, the 4 worst teams in the AL in a row, and we've blown it. Let's at least stop some of the bleeding.
  7. I agree, he isn't worth it. Zito in Boston= disaster. He should be a last resort. From 03-05, his ERA vs. the Yankees was 5.44. This year it is pushing 9. He is notoriously bad verse the Yankees. Living in New York, I watch a lot of Yankee games. My most vivid memories are Zito getting shelled by them. I just couldn't take it. I don't think he would thrive under the pressure either. He is an overrated pitcher.
  8. Luckily Liriano may be out for the year, Weaver didn't start the season in Anaheim, Verlander has a tired arm and Jenks almost has a 4 ERA. He isn't a lock at all, but every other candidate has their blemishes. I do think Verlander will win it though. But this stretch hasn't changed my mind.
  9. I am not worried much. If you really thought he'd keep his ERA at around .5, you're delusional. That's one run every 18 innings. He won't ever be as good as he was the first half of the year, it is just not possible. He is still an elite closer. He isn't going to implode, I just won't be as amazing. He was on pace to set the all time ERA record for 80 innings pitched. You have to realize what he was doing was superhuman. He'll be fine, but don't expect him to finish the season with a sub .8 era.
  10. Baseball doesn't need a cap, they need a floor. Make teams spend at least $60 million on payroll. These owners can afford it. Competition would sky rocket. Team like KC and TB could actually have decent teams, which leads to more fans, which leads to more money, which leads to higher payroll, which leads to even more competition. A cap wouldn't help too much, but a floor is more necessary. The Tampas, Pittsburgh and KCs of the world are never going to spend more money, and a cap wont help. A cap brings the level of play down, a floor would bring it up.
  11. I have a $500 bet that Wily Mo out performs Abreu over the remainder of this year and next year. If he hits more homers, has a higher average and has more RBI, or just 2 of the 3, I win. Luckily my friend didn't want OBP or Ks to be a choice. I love Wily Mo. I think he has some huge season in front of him. If he gets a little more discipline, he is easily a 40 HR, 120 RBI, .300 guy. And the NL finally learned what type of pitcher Arroyo is. Imagine what his 3.5 ERA would translate in to the AL. Probably like 5...which we still could use. But he is sucking of late. I always stood firm to my original opinion of the trade, that it was a steal for Boston. Wily is a talent that doesn't come around too often.
  12. The Bears. They will be a top two team in the NFC. That should be a hell of a game. Or the Jets if you want to see the Pats pound someone.
  13. It's definitely too early to be talking about next season. But whatever. We need to go after a big time starter. Next year is Schilling's last year, maybe. Schilling, Beckett, Lester, Papelbon?, Wakefield is fine, but I think getting a guy like Schmidt would obviously be great. Don't get Zito, he couldn't beat the Yankees if his life depended on it. The offense is fine. It has kept up with the Yankees all year, and unlike them, we have a young offense. Wily Mo, Manny and Coco will be the outfield. Youks, Pedroia, Gonzo, and Lowell will be the infield. That will work fine. Their will be no good closers on the market, besides Gagne and Wickman...so maybe keeping Paps in the closer spot for at least some of the season is a good idea. I am not sold on Hansen yet. Getting an ace is key. You can't have enough pitching, which we learned the hard way this year.
  14. I totally agree. First off, the Twins are going to struggle. They have been overachieving all year, and now that Liriano is down, for perhaps the whole year, that hurts. I don't think they have the longevity. The White Sox have just as many pitching issues as we do. They will be tough to top, but they have a tough schedule. I think that the AL East may be close to out of reach, but it isn't over yet. We play 9 games verse the Yankees. This is the worst stretch of baseball we have played all year. You can't take everything from this series. Every team has had its lows, and luckily, and hopefully, we are just getting this out of our system early. It doesn't get worse than this, which is a good thing. There is a lot of baseball left. THis is just a two week period that has sucked. Baseball is a game of streaks. The Sox will get healthy, go on some runs. 3 games and 2 games aren't much at all. It's far from over.
  15. Yo. I am a displaced Red Sox fan. Born in Boston, raised in New York. I am a huge Red Sox fan. I watch every game, and go to about 10-20 a year (my uncle has season tickets). Where I live, there aren't too many Red Sox fans, so I hope I can find some intelligent discussion here. Peace. Pesky.
