  1. I hate Verizon right now. Missing the game because they lied to me. f*** them
  2. Hughes was optioned to AAA today. Lance Pendleton was recalled from AAA. From the sounds of it, Noesi and Pendleton will be the long men in the Yankee pen. Colon slots into the #4 spot in the rotation and we go from there
  3. Man that Toronto lineup loses a ton of thunder after Hill.
  4. Yankees sign Reinier Casanova, a cuban defector in 2009, to a MiLB deal. He's a RHP, hopefully I can get a scouting report on him soon
  5. Lefty Cecil vs lefty loaded lineup. Very surprised Cameron isnt in there. Cecil is tough and will probably give JD fits in there.
  6. Sounded like the Sox wanted to wait to see if his arm is healthy. Looks like it is. While I think his deal is close to market value, I do think he could have been able to eek out another million + per year if he dragged the sox up to free agency, but at that point, what's the use?
  7. Nope. And the minors are thin outside of banuelos , and he's gonna start
  8. I can tell you what, though y228. I am encouraged by Sabathia obviously, but very encouraged by Burnett. I think Nova is right where I expected, being inconsistent. I do expect him to be a 4.50ERA guy by yrs end, though. I havent seen Garcia and am completely distraught about Hughes. He's not big league material right now. He needs to finish in AAA and get the seasoning he obviously needed when he was rushed through the system. This is why I hope Banuelos and Betances dont get moved too quick. We should look at Hughes and Joba as reasons to let them season
  9. AJ has looked pretty good. He did something vs the o's that he didn't do last yr. He battled without his best stuff and location. And if not for poor timing from our skipper, he may have gotten thru it without allowing a run
  10. Worked thru the game. Heard Hughes was in the 88-89 range again. Gamecast had him down the middle all game. Time for the minors. But solid win from the pen and the offense
  11. I doubt the thumb is "bothering him". My guess is that he's a little weak there and that is leading to his timing being off. But when you injure your hand, it changes your swing a little, it changes your power, it changes everything. It takes time to get back
  12. I was gamecasting. AJ struggled, but it sounds like he made his pitches when he needed to. Why the hell did Girardi try to get him through 7? He started the inning over 100 pitches, we had a 7 run lead and it's f***ing April.
  13. Montero went 3 for 5 again with 2 doubles. He's batting .480 through 5 games. If Posada continues to struggle as the DH, Montero is an option
  14. The sox didnt put their best foot forward at all. The Yankees shrewdly negotiated to get him. If the sox actually put a fair market value on him, they wouldnt have had a problem with the Yanks. If someone offered you $12 million extra over 4 yrs, I think you'd take it as well.
  15. Obviously, not a big league reference, but when we were struggling in college, our coach initially took to the more practice approach. Essentially, longer BP, more PFP, more fly balls, etc. That NEVER worked. Then, he'd go with the Torre approach. No BP, show up 90 minutes prior to the game. Stretch, throw, no BP. That always seemed to work
  16. If Youk is getting on at a .420 clip, how bout you bat him in front of AdGon? AdGon is your best hitter, right?
  17. probably not tonight. It's raining here and the weather suggests it wont let up until tomorrow
  18. I would assume the merchandising money has dried up with him becoming the butt end of a joke in Boston. Just like I doubt the idea that the A's are making money hand over fist by having Matsui on their team
  19. Whoa, sorry, this one was meant for the game thread
  20. There are 152 games left and you trail the Yanks by 4 games, who are really your only in league competition. You guys are hilarious. Take it from a Yankee fan, rough starts arent hard to overcome, it's the poor finishes that suck. That being said, both the Yanks and Sox have a pitching problem. CC and Burnett look good on the Yankee side, Nova has had one good start and one bad and Hughes looks absolutely abysmal. Lester looks solid, Beckett has had one good start, Lackey and DiceK look awful, and Buchholz isnt sharp to start. A good rotation needs to have at least 3 guys giving you innings and above league production. Eventually, I think the sox get that from Lester, Beckett, and Buchholz. I dont know if the Yanks get that past CC and Burnett
  21. Montero went 3 for 5 and Jorge Vazquez hit 2 homers and drove in 5 today for Scranton Banuelos threw 4 shutout innings vs Portland today, Romine had a double and 3 walks, and Mesa hit his first homer of the yr Lyerly added a double and a homer today and Jairo Heredia took his first step towards progress with 6IP of 2ER ball, allowing only 3 baserunners and K'ing 7 Heathcott added a 2 run triple in a wild one at Greenville. Flores had 3 hits, Murphy had three hits including a double and his third homer in 4 games, and Kyle Roller added 4 hits.
  22. I like his power potential out of a small frame. Righty who hits the ball to all fields, but could really have a future banging balls off the monster.
  23. Through the first week (3 or 4 games)... AAA Montero- he's started out hot, hitting .400 with one homer Noesi, Phelps, and Warren- not good in their first starts, combining for 9 walks, 6K's, 20 hits, and 10ER in 14IP. The rest of the offense isnt really newsworthy. While Pena, Parraz and Golson are crushing the ball, none project more than Yankee backups AA Cody Johnson looks good thus far. He's a 22 yr old with 94 career MiLB HR's but a penchant for the K who we traded for in the offseason. He's got a TON of potential and looks good in 3 games. .417AVG with 2 doubles and 2 walks, but 3K's in 3 games is something to keep an eye on Corban Joseph hitting .231, is the next highest batter, which is a trend for the Thunder. Mesa, Romine, Pirela, and Suttle (who are the only other notable offensive prospects in Trenton) are all under .200 In terms of pitching, Stoneburner only allowed 1ER in 5IP, but allowed 10 baserunners and only registered 1K. Dellin Betances allowed 1ER in 4.2IP, but allowed 7 baserunners and only registered 1K. Tim Norton, who is rebuilding his career after 2 major arm surgeries, has started off well in the pen, 5K's in 2IP with only one baserunner allowed A+ Robert Lyerly has started off on fire. .353 with a double and a triple Abraham Almonte, in his return from labrum surgery, has started out hot too. .333 with 2 doubles, a homer, and 3 steals. He's a 5 tool guy to keep an eye on. He'll be in Trenton before long 2 highly touted players who are struggling, Zoilo Almonte and Kyle Higashioka are 4 for 28 on the young season In terms of the mound, Romanski started the yr off well, with a 6IP 3H 1ER performance Sean Black also started out well, 5IP 5H 1ER 3K Jose Ramirez also had a good peripheral performance with a bad defense hurting him a little. 4IP 2H, 2BB, 6K, 2ER Mark Prior has thrown 2 scoreless in Tampa. He'll be moving to Scranton when the Yanks are happy with his arm strength Brett Marshall had an abysmal start in the opener A Big fan of this team after they were a little too green last yr. Slade Heathcott is 9 for 18 with 2 homers, 4 doubles, a triple and 7RBI. He'll move to Tampa once Almonte moves to Trenton Kelvin DeLeon is starting out hot. .375 with a homer, but also 4K's. That's been his problem and if he continues to K at an epic rate, he'll fizzle Another interesting line is that of JR Murphy. 2nd rounder from 2009, he's smacked 2 homers, but is only 3 for 17. Segedin, Mojica, Sosa, Feliz, and Flores have all started out cold. For the pitchers, 2 of the starts have been lights out, and 2 were terrible. Shane Greene threw 6IP with 0ER, 4H and 3K's. Mikey O'Brien threw 6IP with 6K, 2ER, and 6 baserunners Nik Turley and Kramer Sneed (both lefties) both got dismantled in their first starts Tommy Kahnle threw 2 perfect innings in his debut
  24. The thing is, though, how many weren't caught? Sosa obviously juiced, but he wasnt caught. Do you not let him in?
  25. That he did. He was vintage Beckett. We'll see how often he can sustain it, but he showed for at least one night that he still has the stuff to dominate any lineup
