  1. Bard was a disaster in the minors as a starter. They cleaned up his mechanics out of the stretch and simplified his arsenal. Moving him out of that comfort zone would be a potential disaster. Paps, OTOH, was always a good starter in the minors before he became a closer. His arsenal is deep enough that he could be useful as a starter
  2. You are all nice and snug under your blanket of false security. Papelbon will get paid, period. It's going to happen
  3. Saying there wont be a market out there because there is no theoretical need is essentially creating a false sense of security for yourself. He's a closer who has been dominant and still throws top notch stuff. He's got a playoff resume that is excellent and closed out a world series. No closer on the market has that to his name. He's the biggest name amongst a fair amount of closers, but he's getting the biggest contract. I guarantee that. He'll get his 3 yrs, and he will make at least $40 mil over those three.
  4. The sox prospects have had a good offensive year, that I totally agree with ORS on. While a few prospects have been hurt or fizzled, a lot of younger guys stepped up their game.
  5. He's a teenager and you are docking him for it? That's crazy. He's a top talent with 5 tools that he's already showing at a young age. .298/.363/.571. 40G 17BB 9HR 32EBH 10SB. And he plays a very solid CF with a rifle arm. The kid is gonna be a great one. Now, due to his proximity, I'd have him in the 9-10 range, but he is definitely top 10 at this point.
  6. Ravel Santana is a top ten guy
  7. Ravel Santana broke his ankle badly today. And Gary Sanchez broke a finger last night, so both are out for the season
  8. Ranaudo has had an interesting yr. Dominated the SAL, but has struggled a bit in High A. I wouldnt call him a disappointment, he's likely to still get promoted to AA
  9. He's gonna ask for 3yrs $45 mil and probably get it. You all see what KRod got and that was with diminishing velocity in his contract yr. Papelbon has looked very tough all season except for one blowup against the A's. He's gonna get paid
  10. Well, CC gave us innings, but he got abused when they made contact. One of those nights
  11. So we were tied, I went up to check on my not so sleeping daughter, come back, and we're down 2-0. Baby monitor goes off, run back upstairs, come back down, now 3-0. That kid is gonna cry it out for now on
  12. The GCL is brimming with ridiculous talent. The entire team has an OPS of .823 and a BA over .300. Insane Dante Bichette had another big day. 4 for 5, 2 doubles, 4RBI. Slash line of .344/.457/.523. Not sure why he's still in the GCL, he's dominating. Ravel Santana has been on fire of late. .297/.360/.557 on the yr with 8HR in 158ABs. He also has 10SBs
  13. Greg Bird and Josh Brebbia signed. Bird is a good get, HS kid listed at catcher with light tower power. Probably profiles as a 1b in the future. Brebbia is a righty with fringe stuff who the Yanks were gonna follow in the Cape before getting an offer. I guess he showed improvement on his stuff, because they offered him a nice bonus.
  14. Let's conveniently leave out SLG, HR, R, and RBI. I can leave out relevant stats as well, but, well, I'm not a hypocrite
  15. The Yanks are a playoff team, Granderson has way more HR, now leads him in RBI and has scored more runs. And Grandy has a better WAR by 0.5
  16. Who should be the leader then? AdGon has a similar OPS, less HR, RBI, SB, and Runs and plays a less important defensive position. Ellsbury? Much lower OPS, less HR, RBI, more SB, less Runs and plays better D in CF. Bautista is the only guy that I think is giving Grandy a run right now. Obviously, there's still 6 weeks left, but Bautista is probably 1a right now. His knocks are the SBs, the defensive position and the fact that his team isnt good.
  17. You rest your big guys when you have a ginormous lead on a playoff spot. Is it more beneficial to have home field and a tired/injured Pedroia or be the Wild Card with a healthy Pedroia. This is the one reason why I think the sox take the division. I think they are very even, even though the season series hasnt been so even. But Girardi has older core players who need rest periodically. And I hope Girardi gives it to them. If ARod or Swisher or Cano are not completely ready for October, we're hosed
  18. I didnt think this was possible, but now I think he could be the frontrunner for MVP. Look at the numbers First the slash line .275/.367/.579 for an OPS of .946. Now for the individual stats and rank Runs- 104- 1st in AL (and MLB ) Triples- 9- 1st in AL (4th in MLB ) Homeruns- 32- 2nd-t in AL (2nd-t in MLB ) RBI- 93- 1st in AL (and MLB ) SB- 22- 9th in AL The two big knocks are the K's (4th in AL) and his defense this yr has been poor by UZR (-8) although it was solid last yr. Regardless, he's been the key cog in the Yankee machine and I think right now, you have to think he's the leader in the AL
  19. I understand the conservativism, but you have no real sweeps and you have the sox losing just one more series the rest of the yr. I still think the sox take the division, though, and I think both teams around 100 wins is reasonable
  20. I dont think Bedard projects as a Type A or B since that ranking is based on the last 2 yrs and he did nothing last yr. Similar to Colon, IIRC
  21. He's pitching very well of late. I still think Colon is the better #2 because he can strike people out, but I think either Nova or Garcia could be the #3.
  22. Nova is only getting better. He's got the look of a guy who could be a big time asset down the stretch.
  23. Gary Sanchez is on fire. He is the 18 yr old catcher in long season SAL leagues who started off slow, but has shown big time power. He hit 2 more homers today, to bring his total up to 17. He's hit .448 with 7HRs in August thus far (only 8 games).
  24. Can't afford to rest one of your best players? Especially after he missed half of last yr with a foot injury? You gotta rest these guys at some point.
