  1. His last ring was in 2007, so that grace period has been exhausted
  2. Emmz, speed first players lose it significantly as they age. They are the most volatile commodities in the game. Think about the natural progression of your body. As you cross the 30 threshold, your body holds weight a little more than it used to. So, these guys get a little thicker and actually get stronger, but slower. Power doesnt start to dip until the late 30s, but speed and quickness goes a lot earlier than that
  3. Nick Swisher has a no brainer option that the Yankees will accept for next season.
  4. Bay has been nagged by concussion issues. If he's the DH and doesnt have to play the field then that could help him regain his form. I think the sox would net out better if they made such a move
  5. The Marlins would be stupid to deal Hanley right now. You dont trade your assets when their value is low. Felix could be dealt, but his value is so damn high that nobody could reach it. Jimenez isnt even close to Felix's class and he netted two former 1st rounders and future top of the rotation guys in White and Pomeranz.
  6. The sox would need to eat a yr of Lackey's salary
  7. Dojji, really? Iglesias to start 130 games and apparently the shortstop will be starting 172 games in 2012? Dude, Iglesias cannot hit AA pitching, let alone the bigs. If you wanna go for an all defense SS in the AL East, then please, do it. Remember, I am not a Red Sox fan. You wanna go to Reddick out of the gate with no real competition? Go for it, sounds great. You want Aviles and Youk to split time at 3b? Sounds like another stellar idea. You are taking an offense capable of 900 runs and dropping it down to about 780. I say go for it!
  8. Crawford was moved from CF because his D was awful in the Trop. Upton used to be an IFer and he supplanted Crawford out there. It is an interesting idea, but would you be willing to move Ellsbury for a top flight pitcher? That takes a huge chunk from your offensive production
  9. you beat me to it! Might wanna change your sig, btw
  10. One thing that should cheer all sox fans on this site up is that we're all getting season tickets!
  11. Guys, I dont think you're gonna be able to dump Lackey. He has 3 yrs and $49.5 million left on his deal. And...he was the worst pitcher in baseball by far, actually the worst regular season starter since Jose Lima in 2005. Unless the sox outright release him, he's on your team in 2012. Your best bet it to hope that Lackey can get back to mediocrity in 2012 (4.5ish ERA) and might be worth a cheap flyer as a salary dump by another team willing to take on $5 mil per yr in salary.
  12. SFF, the question is, who do you trade? Because like I said, you can probably get a reliable RFer (like a Francouer or maybe a Quentin) for Doubront and Reddick +. But if you are going to nab a top flight pitcher, you're gonna have to move someone from your current team. Bard, Ellsbury, etc. The sox farm is promising in a few yrs, but Bogaerts and Jacobs wont be headliners until they're AA proven. And neither of them are at this point
  13. So, apparently Jose Ramirez found the drawer where they hide the roids. At instructs yesterday, he was topping out at 101mph and showcased a nasty slidepiece. Might be time to convert him to the pen
  14. I thought the same thing after 2008. I was saying blow up the Yankees and I am looking forward to the winter meetings and the offseason, etc. Then I remembered that the postseason was going on and I needed to wade through that ******** before getting to the winter meetings. Never had I ever wished to see snow any sooner than that season.
  15. Makes a ton of sense. The off day after game 4 allows for the #2 starter to come back on full rest in game 5. CC is the only one on short rest, and with his recent hiatus, he should be up for the challenge. I feel good about this series, but we'll see. Anything can happen. We can hit Verlander and we sure as hell can run up his pitch count. Havent seen the full complement of the lineup in awhile. It does sound like ARod might be limited, but he should still play if he can. Regardless, we've got a hell of a shot to win this.
  16. That lineup will be augmented with some new blood. My guess is the sox go out and deal Reddick and Doubront for a good RFer. And I would say there is a better than 50% chance that Ortiz is gone. Guys like Youk, AdGon, Pedroia et al could use time at Dh as the season goes along and having Ortiz clog it up doesnt help them. All it does is force all their position players to play the field every game and by September, they're all dead tired.
  17. It's not hyperbole. If the sox lose out tonight, they will have set the record for September chokers. 9 game lead to start September, that has never been blown before
  18. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/league-top-20-prospects/2011/2612405.html SAL Top 20. A few sox on this list. They had Gary Sanchez at #14, which is way, way too low
  19. In terms of the GCL, I am quite surprised that Taylor Morton didnt make it. That kid has a very high ceiling and a bright, bright future
  20. Gumbs is playing 2b but from the sounds of it, looks more like an OFer in the future. Culver has shown flashes on offense as well as a pretty good eye. And his defense grades out as plus and he should be a top notch defensive SS at the big league level. That is why the Yankees reached for him. His bat is a work in progress, his glove is smoothe
  21. those are pro quality
  22. I just thought of it, but I thought it was clever I hope both you and the rays win tomorrow or lose tomorrow. I want there to be a playoff on Thursday, that would be awesome
