  1. I'd take Heredia off the list entirely. He just had another shoulder surgery. He's done as a starter as far as I am concerned
  2. He got pretty tired late in the season. Not surprising for a young catcher going through the grind of a season. It remains to be seen what kind of player he is. Is he a guy who can hit 15-20 HRs and get on base at a .320+ clip or is he a guy who will hit 15-20HRs and get on base at a .280 clip. Remember, he's an offensive catcher. His defense is pretty miserable at best. So if he doesnt turn it on this yr, then it's time to look for another backstop. Having a good defensive catcher behind him who can also hit at times will help get him adequate rest. It also gives the sox a contingency plan should Salty implode
  3. I doubt it's NY. I think they bid what they thought was reasonable. Regardless, I think we wait till the FA class of 2013 or make a deal
  4. He's a defensive replacement. He really isnt much of a backup. Backup entails that you can trust him to start 30 or 40 games a year. And I am not sure offensively, that that would be a good idea
  5. You never, ever, ever give two spots in your rotation out of the offseason to rookies. We did it in 2008 and it was the only yr in recent memory that we didnt make the postseason. I am all for having the #5 spot be an open competition, but in this day and age, you must go into the season with 4 veteran starters if you plan on winning in the AL East. The other issue I have with the sox is that they have no big league ready prospects capable of pitching for you in 2012. Your depth is laughable and without locking down the last 2 spots, you might run into the same issues you ran into in 2011. Lester, Beckett, Buchholz, pray for rain, pray for rain again, pray none of the top 3 get hurt again
  6. Montero showed his hand a bit already offensively. This kid is going to be a hitter that at least is an all star level and his ceiling is MVP caliber. I dont throw him around willy nilly. Nova is a proven big league starter who won 16 games and Betances is one of the best pitching prospects in baseball. It's not an easy pill to swallow for anyone, because they are all big league ready and if they reach close to their potential, you give the M's two front end starters and a franchise offensive player. I'd rather have one top notch prospect and a bunch of high ceiling less experienced players go, but it is Felix.
  7. I loved Aceves too, when he was in NY. The guy is a competitor. He doesnt have a true plus pitch, but he can throw all of his pitches close to where he wants to and he isnt afraid of anyone. Makes him a good reliever. But, he throws all of his pitches from the getgo and doesnt have an overwhelmingly good pitch in his arsenal, which makes him a poor bet in the rotation.
  8. 30 baserunners in 20 innings with only 13K's as a reliever is pretty bad. But he was green, so that's okay. Like I said, I like Melancon. I think you will too. Just not convinced he's your closer right now
  9. Dojji, the deal is that you have holes at critical spots on the roster. Your #4 and #5 starters are who? Bard and Aceves? Okay, they are major, major questionmarks. And your setup man and closer are who? Jenks coming off a PE and back surgery and Melancon, who is coming off a good season in the NL Central? And after your 1-5, who are your contingencies? Andrew Miller? Your farm system is not good enough to fill in on the pitching side of things should that back end crumble or god forbid, one of your top three go down with injury.
  10. He didnt succeed in the AL East. He was awful in his first taste of the bigs, but he was a rookie and the Yanks gave up on him too soon. Lowrie has the range of a 3b and the arm of a 2b. He was always a tweener that didnt fit with the sox as long as 2b was occupied. And Weiland was some pitching depth, but not much.
  11. I dont like it, but that's the package it would take. I wouldnt give any more players than that. Nova is a second yr pitcher coming off a 16 win campaign and was dynamite in the playoffs before getting hurt. Montero is one of the best hitting prospects in the game and Betances is one of the top pitching prospects in the game. That kind of haul would be unprecedented
  12. SS, the Yanks made a bid. We'll see if it is competitive enough to win. My guess is it wont be. I think Cash is waiting for a big trade alot like last yr. If it doesnt fall into his lap, he's okay with waiting
  13. Yep, if the league thinks you are bidding to keep him away from other teams and dont have a genuine interest in signing the player you bid on, then the bid is stripped and it goes to the next highest payer
  14. Melancon had 4 pitches in the Yankee minor league system. He had a 4 seamer around 93 that topped out at 96, he has a 2 seamer that had a lot of movement in the low 90s, he had a wipeout slider and a developing changeup. When he got to NY, he couldnt control his FB and he struggled with the big stage. He went to Houston, focused on FB command in low pressure and the rest took care of itself. He's a good player with closer potential. It just depends on whether he can flourish in this environment the second time around.
  15. I am pretty sure most fans on here will be doing an about face on Melancon. Those who were on here from 2007 to 2010 when I was his biggest proponent thought I was nuts. The kid has closer stuff, he just struggled with the bright lights. He dominated in Houston and now gets a second shot at the whole bright lights thing
  16. I dont think the sox and the marlins even come close to matching. The Marlins will want two things, one of which the sox dont have. Youk would make sense as he's a 3b, but his injury history of late and the fact that he would be playing a wearing position at age 33 after a bunch of wear and tear injuries doesnt make him too attractive. The other thing the Marlins will want is MLB starting pitching, something that the sox cannot move
  17. You were the second girl with that one cup, werent you?
  18. would you like some Valtrex and some Penicillin? You might need it
  19. No, I don't know what you're saying. That makes no sense
  20. I wouldnt. I love Nova for what he is, but also for what he could be. He has the arsenal of an ace with the production of a sinkerballer as of right now. He's currently our old CMW and in the future he could be something more. I think he ends up as a solid #2 for us next season, but I have a feeling someone will be slotting ahead of him, either currently in house or from the outside
  21. You call that bluff all day and you'd have him masturbating if he doesnt spend money on you. Are you a hooker?
  22. He's Derek f***ing Jeter. He wont get stuck with his hand, let's be real here. He could throw them out
