  1. 2 wild cards and they just got dramatically better. If Johnson is healthy, that rotation is dirty. Plus, another yr for Stanton, Sanchez, Morrison could hurt. Hanley should be healthy and Reyes will be a sparkplug. They're gonna be a WC team, bank it
  2. It's gonna be hard to do, especially when he keeps overruling Cashman and forcing his hand on relievers and over the hill third basemen. We have a system capable of having sustainable success. He just needs to not deal it away for quick fix players. I liked how he managed the Montero situation and got a young, cost controlled kid back. That's the way to go these days
  3. It's the act of squaring up a cylindrical bat that is 2 3/4 inches in diameter with a spherical ball maybe 4 inches in diameter that is moving 90mph is the most difficult thing to do.
  4. Somebody needs their midol today. Nobody would give a s*** about the thread if it stayed with Molina. The only reason why I care about it is how it is going to translate into Martin's contract situation.
  5. It's going to come down to who does well in ST. I think Aceves is going to thrive in his shorter stints early then get by as his pitch count grows seeing as most teams still pull their starters after 2ABs. I think he is the sure shot #5 if he is in the conversation during ST. I dont think he lasts there, though
  6. Tek has already signed on with the sox in some capacity. My guess is they will put him in the FO somewhere for 2012 to recharge his batteries and get him away from the fray. Then you'll see him in the minors as a head coach and eventually, you'll hear his name when Bobby V is ready to go. V is an old guy too, so he isnt a 10 yr coach here. He's probably more like a 3-5 yr short term jolt for the team, then you'll see Tek in the conversation
  7. UN is right. Hitting a 90 mph fastball square is the hardest thing to do in all of sports
  8. Or how poor their pitchers hold runners
  9. The only thing going for NY here is that Miguel Montero and Mike Napoli are FAs after the season. I also do not believe Martin or Molina for that matter should get $15 mil per season
  10. Martin has the better offensive track record and had a good season a yr ago offensively while being incredibly unlucky (.252 BABIP). Martin threw out more baserunners and anchored a surprising rotation. I am not sure what else you want. Molina never had a strong offensive track record until he had a career yr with a .311 BABIP. He's not that kind of hitter. I am absolutely sure that Martin's agent will argue their similarities when he hits FA at yrs end. He's also a yr younger than Molina
  11. 5yrs $70-$75 mil. I am pretty sure the Yankees just cringed after seeing that. Martin's worth just went through the roof
  12. Shoppach should tell him that ARod got inside info and snitched. Maybe he'll drill him enough to retire and we can use that $27.5 mil per season on other needs.
  13. A change in manager doesnt do much when you have guaranteed contracts and guys making tens of millions of dollars on a yearly basis. It has to come from within. Varitek was a natural born leader who didnt take s*** from anyone, let alone the most offensively feared and highest paid player in the game (at that time). Guys like him don't grow on trees. NO matter what, you lose leadership when a guy of his caliber retires. The question is, who will step up and fill those shoes of the crusty old veteran who has seen it all and lived to tell about it?
  14. I think you're intentionally changing the subject there. Fidgety, yes, long to the ball, no. Nomar was weird before the pitch, but he had a short, compact stroke. His problem was the roid train stopped and he lost his strength
  15. I hated Varitek as a Yankee fan. He never really seemed to come up with the big hit, but he was the unquestioned leader, a non-idiot of a bunch of idiots. I think the sox lack of leadership last yr had a lot to do with him having a lesser role, and now that he's gone, it will take an even bigger drop. I find it funny that Tek and Posada effectively mirrored each other across the diamond for 15+ seasons. It will be sad to see both of them in the stands... I guess the next question becomes, do the sox retire his number? I know they have their rules and all, but he was the captain of the team that broke the curse and another title winner. Plus, he was a solid defender and manager of a pitching staff that carried them during their golden years. I think the sox should definitely do that
  16. Let him be pissed. It should motivate him
  17. No, he doesnt get pity at all.
  18. The Angels arent releasing Abreu. The think is, they are going to have to eat almost his whole salary in order to get something for him. If I were the Angels, I'd deal him to the Yankees for one of their B level pitching prospects like Phelps or Warren. They need someone in the 5 spot in their rotation and these guys fit the bill
  19. Hmmm. Don't do testosterone or roids, get a nice signing bonus, enough to take care of my family for a decade or so and then maybe make the bigs and make enough to be set, or take roids and testosterone and make more in one contract than any of my descendants will make in their careers combined. I'll take the roids... It's a no-brainer
  20. So it was the manager's fault that Crawford didnt play well? That's assinine. Cmon man.
  21. I see, so you can now pick and choose which seasons are relevant. Gotcha. He is coming off a career worst season and is entering this season with a wrist that just was surgically repaired. Doesnt sound like he's gonna be top notch from day 1 here. Stash him behind Papi, see if he has his bat speed back, if he tears the cover off the ball, you move him up
  22. Until Crawford shows he is healthy and shows he has his s*** together, why put him at the top of the order at all? The guy was a liability offensively last season and is coming off wrist surgery. The question should be, if Crawford comes back to his .293/.333/.441 line, then when do you put him? This version of Crawford isnt one you put anywhere near the top of the order
