  1. I am not entirely sure how the sox can be considered one of the top teams with their rotation the way it is. Maybe it speaks more to the parody in the league rather than their actual ability
  2. Ortiz' OPS of .860. I take under, you take over?
  3. Not sure you can really call it horrific. If anything, it is going to be a massive defensive improvement over last year. No idea what kind of offense we'll get with Drew having a full preseason and Gregorius moving to a good park for lefties. It certainly has the potential to be an offensive black hole, but far from a sure thing
  4. Spud, this kid sounds like a generational talent
  5. Hamels has a WAR of 27.1 over the past 5 seasons. That's league adjusted, I believe. He also plays in a bandbox. He just turned 31 and still has a good 2 years of prime performance left. Swihart turns 23 in April and has the looks of a franchise catcher. You know who else looked like a franchise catcher? Jesus Montero. And I am so f***ing glad we sold high on him. He could be the next Jorge Posada. Or he could be Dioner Navarro or worse. If you are angling to get a prime aged left handed ace, you are gonna have to give up something of value
  6. UN? are you using your predictions as sig bets or are you gonna back out due to the neighborhood rule? I propose 3 sig bets, each for a 2 week span and all spawned by your predictions. I will do it as an under over, sound good? Wade Miley's ERA- under/over set a 4. I take the over. I assume you are taking the under Justin Masterson's ERA- under/over set at 4. I take the over. I also assume you are taking the under Masterson+Buchholz+Kelly IP- under over set at 470IP. I take the under, you are at the over Sound fair? Sig bets cancel each other out, ie if I win 2 and you win 1, I own your sig for 2 weeks and we're even. But if I or you win all 3, then the winner owns the sig for 6 weeks, Fair?
  7. Huh? If that were the case, then you'd have one championship on the books (2007) since the other two were augmented significantly through the FA process. Listen, a guy from the DR or Cuba doesn't give a rats ass about the Yankee-Sox rivalry. Neither does a kid from Florida or Cali. Most of these guys are from over 1,000 miles from Boston. There is no engrained loyalty there. And I know you say these things now, but if you were a player, you'd do the same thing
  8. Well, you'd hate it up here right now. Buried under at least 3 feet of snow. More snow on the way
  9. UN, you can hang out in my basement. It's bigger than most houses. Still doesn't change the fact that your current rotation is a joke. I know you've been tooting the horn of "the season hasn't started yet", but we are getting close to pitchers and catchers. There's one more big fish out there, so maybe that's the guy who walks through the door, but as of right now, your rotation is a joke.
  10. Kimmi, they have built a rotation of guys who are either not that good or underachieving AND injury prone. The only guy in that rotation who is a playoff caliber starter is Porcello, and he's more a game 3 starter than anything else. I think Miley is gonna get s*** tanked in Boston. Buchholz and Masterson are coming off the two worst seasons in the AL last yr AND both were injured. Then there's Kelly, who is a reliever in starter's clothing and he is also hurt a lot. You rebuilt the rotation into a big pile of s***. The sox need two more starters IMO, and they need a 1 and a 2
  11. The Phillies want Swihart for Hamels. I know Amaro catches a lot of flack, but he has a prime age ace with 4 years of control at what now amounts to sub market value. You cannot blame him for asking high. That being said, if it's a one for one swap, that's pretty reasonable. My assumption is that it's more than just that.
  12. I'll talk with you without pissing Ogden. I agree, no baseball player is truly worth $20 mil a season on a societal level, but the market dictates everything here. Lester's market was obviously well north of that figure. Everyone knew the market would dictate a MUCH higher value than 4yrs $70 mil. Starting that low was a complete and total insult to Lester. Let's put it this way. You're interviewing for a job and the market dictates your salary should be $80K and they offer you $50K. That would be a problem
  13. I still remember watching 2006 spring training with the Phils vs the Yankees and seeing Hamels for the first time. He made Bitch Tits and Jeter look like children with the changeup. I immediately put him on my draft list. If Owens sniffs Hamels territory, then you're gonna be real happy.
  14. I think people need to be patient with Owens. From the SR's I am reading, he is a 90-94mph fastball guy who has a dominant changeup and an average breaking ball with plus potential. Sounds a whole lot like a Cole Hamels kind of player. Hamels, in his debut season, had an ERA over 4 and gave up 19 long balls in 132IP. There is a strong likelihood that should Owens hit the big in 2015, that you are going to see something similar. Games where he dazzles and games where he gets destroyed. If the idea is that Owens is coming up to be your ace in 2015, then my guess is, a lot of people will be disappointed. Come 2016 or 2017, could he be acelike, certainly possible. But don't expect that in 2015, and if the sox brass is expecting that, then they're not going to win a lot of games
  15. Health has been the issue. His elbow and shoulder are shot.
  16. Maybe 100 if everyone is healthy, Eovaldi turns the corner and the shift is removed.
  17. I think Steinbrenner was right. Lucchino is a snake.
  18. Ross is a lefty reliever, only. He sucked in the rotation. I think Ranaudo is a heavy price to pay as I thought he could end up being a pretty good starter, but they sold a guy who probably isn't ready for a guy who is going to be your primary left handed reliever. It is definitely a move for now
  19. Both teams have the potential to make the playoffs. They also could potentially end up in last place. I have no expectations with the roster as is. We could win 70 or 100 and anything inbetween. I would probably revamp that if they do rid the world of the shift.
  20. Getting rid of the shift would be a huge advantage for the Yankees. Absolutely, I hope they get rid of the f***ing thing.
  21. They will get a comp pick at least. If they somehow fall from contention, they will have a stable of arms available for trade
  22. Bradley said he doesn't study tape. He said he relies on his hands and his eyes to read the pitch and hit. He said it before a Sox Yankee game last yr. That is foolish
  23. I wouldn't go so far as considering Vazquez "elite" just yet. He's a defensive player who has all the tools to be a top notch catcher. He's not a finished product yet.
  24. I honestly think Owens is in your rotation on June 2, right after he'd secure an extra year of team control. This is assuming he isn't hurt, btw. TINSTAAPP
  25. He isn't gonna hit like Mays unless he gets on the Bonds/Anderson regimen. He said it himself, he relies on his instincts and isn't a student of the game. Guys who really learn how to hit have to know the pitcher inside and out. Scouting isn't just for managers. You have to know what each pitcher goes to in each count so you can make an informed decision at the plate. If he continues to think he can just react up there, then he's never going to improve.
