  1. Judge will be more productive just because his power is unmatched, he isn’t a matchup problem (Bird is a lefty) and his insane walk rate. I think Judge is showing he can be a generational talent. Sanchez will be the most explosive. Sanchez can hit 10 homers in a week. When he gets hot, nobody is better. Bird, I think will be the third wheel but a good one. If he can stay healthy, I can see a .250/.360/.540 type season with 30HR
  2. I am very excited about Bird. He has some prospect fatigue since he has been around for awhile, but he turns 25 in November, so he isn't old to say the least. He has an OPS post ASB of .847 and has hit 7HR in 77AB since he came back. He is probably going to be another .900+OPS hitter in our lineup just based on his ability to walk and hit the ball out of the ballpark. A Judge/Sanchez/Bird middle of the order should be entirely deadly presuming he can stay on the field
  3. JBJ, even with his down offensive season, is still work 2.4WAR. He is worth something if you deal him, but dealing him coming off a poor season is a good way to get pennies on the dollar
  4. They had been, but if we need a playoff 4, I think it's all hands on deck. He has been really, really good in September, and you don't shut a guy down who is rolling into the playoffs if you are a playoff team
  5. Turnarounds are always amazing to watch in sports. Watching a rookie struggle and then figure it out is always interesting in all levels of sporting events. Baseball is no different, and in some ways is even more fascinating. Last season, Luis Severino was coming off a gangbusters late season callup from 2015 and was expected to elevate to the ace of the staff. Well, even though he threw 96mph on average with the heat, even though he had a lights out slider, he was abysmal as a starter. He was 1-8 with an ERA over 7 as a starter. He was in the pen by seasons end and was lighting it up in shorter stints, making many fans wonder if his future was akin to Betances as a failed starter capable of being a solid 1-2IP pitcher. Well, fastforward one season later, and Sevy has overtaken Tanaka as the ace of the staff and he had the best season by a Yankees pitcher since CC's insane 2011 season in terms of WAR. His ERA is sub 3, something we haven't seen from a Yankees pitcher who threw 190+IP since Cone and Pettitte did so in 1997. Everything about his season has been absolutely amazing and hence, Luis is probably going to finish 3rd in the Cy Young race. 193.1IP 150H 51BB 230K 2.98ERA 10.7K/9IP 4.5K/BB 1.04WHIP 5.5WAR. And this is from a guy who the Yankees have been pulling early to keep his innings down. He also doesn't turn 24 until February and has the highest average velocity of any starter in baseball. He is going to be around for awhile On to Aaron Judge. He came up last year with a fair amount of fanfare. He homered in his first AB, but proceeded to homer just 3 more times in 84AB's, striking out in half of them. He came into ST needing to win the RF job and didn't win the job until the last day of camp. Oh how Yankee fans are glad he did. Judge has joined the 50HR club, something that hadn't been done in all of baseball since 2013 (and Stanton did it with him). A Yankee hasn't hit 50HRs in 10 seasons. A rookie has never hit 50HR. He is also on pace to be the first player to lead the league in all true outcomes since Dale Murphy in 1985 (HR, K, BB) and something only 5 players have done in history (Ruth did it 4 times). All but one are HOFers (Dale Murphy). Judge also leads baseball in runs scored and has 111RBI. His line is: .284/.421/.622 50HR, 125R, 111RBI, 124BB, 204K, 9SB. He also happens to play a very good RF for NY (UZR/150 of 7.4). This all leads to his WAR at this point of 7.8.
  6. Tanaka is our #4 starter, maybe. Jordan Montgomery has been great in September, so he is in the mix
  7. Mutt was talking about using Price as a piggy back with your #3 to get you guys to the 5th inning
  8. Mutt on EEI after your win last night had a good point. Who toes the bump for game 3 in the ALDS? Porcello has been an epic disappointment. Foster offers limited upside and seems to allow runs early. ERod might be the best guy, but his inconsistencies have been concerning as wel. Who do you choose?
  9. If we tie, which is a humongous if, then both teams will go all out. It will be an issue for playoff readiness for sure, but getting into a guaranteed 3 game bout vs a one and done is huge
  10. I think we can beat Cleveland. I just know that facing Keuchel twice is death for us. We don't hit him.
  11. If we tie, we play a one game playoff in Yankee Stadium. The Yankees won the season series, so theyd be home
  12. A coach has to be able to protect the player from the player.
  13. I am on yankee boards and sox boards. I live in MA, so the banter here is more akin to my home experience. Also, there are very few good baseball forums, period. I have been on some Yankee boards where, for example, if you put down a player, you get ridiculed then banned. I forget the prospect, but years ago on the nyyfans site, they were raving about him. I had a subscription to an actual scouting site who said he was garbage. I repeated that SR and got banned. Seriously, banned for disagreeing with the projection of a prospect (btw, I ended up being right IIRC). I'm not on this site because it's a sox site, I am on this site because opposing views are allowed and while they may be ridiculed, they are at least not ban worthy. I took a long and strange road to get here years ago. I was at the Herald before that site exploded, then to a smaller board, then I followed some posters from BH to here. I got banned initially, then came back on and calmed down. It has worked out. I enjoy the banter. I can take a criticism. That being said, I will always represent my team. We have a small but vocal conclave of yankee fans on this site. We are the ones who can handle a bit of crap as most don't survive here. But we all like it
  14. I hope so. The Yankees rehabbed him and he is starting to show who he is. No point in doing so if you’re just letting him walk
  15. You’ve got two things going for you. You can win 3 of 5 to take the pennant or you can go winless and NYY can lose three times for you to win the pennant. We face the Jays to end the year and they always seem to play us tough.
  16. Carpin, I don’t think we beast Houston in a 7 game series
  17. Garcia just turned 18 and has a deep arsenal with good velocity. He is probably adding velocity to his frame. I love Otto. He’s a starter who was abused in a relief role at Rice. His stuff is top notch. I also love Loaisiga, but I anticipate he might be traded. IIRC, he is Rule V eligible and might need to be on the 40 man
  18. McKinney is interesting. He had prospect hype, lost it, then found it again. I think when he was drafted, the ceiling was starting COF with power. I don’t think that’s changed much aside from his ceiling dropping to lower tier COF. He’s well rounded, which is always good. I like Stephan more and more. He came out of college really a one pitch pitcher with that nasty fastball with run, but he really made strides with his secondary stuff. I’m intrigued to see where they start him One other thing about McKinney. I expect the Yankees to do what they did with Gamel with him. He needs to be on the 40 man. I think he gets added and dealt for lower level guys with potential.
  19. Widener is looking like Adams 2.0. Finding a reliever who maintains his stuff when stretched out to start is rare. We found it a few times. This kid is ready to pop
  20. The one I have a bad feeling about is Tate and I think we should move him if we have the opportunity. I love the stuff, but BA’s criticism rings true. He doesn’t miss enough bats for someone with his stuff. This year was a progression for him, maybe next season he starts racking up the K’s, but for someone with lights out stuff who is finally locating, I’m surprised he doesn’t fan more. I really like Frazier, but I can see the concern. I don’t think he becomes a 35 HR masher, but I think his patience will eventually carry over and we can see an Aaron Rowland type player with a touch more power.
  21. Hicks is just about ready. They’re being careful with castro
  22. Aaron Judge exposed
  23. Are you high?
  24. Altuve deserves it to be totally honest. His season is insane. But Judge absolutely is pushing him. Leads the AL in R, BB, and HR with over 100RBI. That’s a damn good year
  25. There is zero chance Sale isn’t starting game 1 of the ALDS. They’ll rearrange his schedule
