  1. If this deal gets done, it gives us the deepest rotation in the AL. 1. Severino 2. Cole 3. Tanaka 4. Gray 5. Montgomery Cole has lights out stuff. He was hurt in 2016 yet returned to health in 2017. His stuff was the same of ever better, but he was bitten by the HR ball, which was very uncharacteristic of him. He’s a high velocity, high strikeout, high ground ball kind of guy whose middle infield will really go a long way to helping his ERA stay down (Didi is a plus defender as is Torres). If he keeps giving up HR balls, then a transition to NY will be a bad thing, but I anticipate it was probably a blip on the radar. If there was a velocity drop, then I’d sit back and say this deal is suspect, but he experienced a slight bump from prior seasons. He could really make this rotation a 4 headed monster ahead of the 5 slot that would likely fall to the talented Montgomery.
  2. Yankees sound like they’re about to get Gerrit Cole
  3. Yankees in advanced talks to get Gerrit Cole. Sounds like a package of Frazier and one of our big league ready arms is the central focus. Cole rebounded well from an injury shortened 2016 and returned with the same stuff but an uncharacteristic bump in HR rate. If he drops that rate back to his career 0.6/9IP rate, he’ll be an ace
  4. Yes he’s the face of the Marlins now, but at their salary levels, teams can be competitive. You don’t overpay for a team then lose money. They had one SP and no relief. Their staff was putrid and they were already losing money. A rebuild was in the offing to keep from bankrupting the newly acquired franchise. The Ozuna deal gained a lot of big league ready prospects. The Stanton deal gained two intriguing long term prospects. Castro will likely return something useful. I’d assume Bour and Yelich will return something useful. They need to rebuild and while most non acquiring teams don’t like it, that’s business
  5. Because there isn’t a market for him now. Wait til all the outfit options sign. If Ells is moved, it’s late
  6. We lost some good prospects today, but just to give you an understanding of the depth of our system, none of the lost prospects were in our top 40
  7. Get Hosmer please!
  8. Jose Mesa Jr to the Orioles. We will also lose him. Absolutely dominant 2017 season saw him get transitioned back to the rotation. Hard thrower with a deep arsenal, he would have been on the Yankees by now if not for 2 years of injuries. He will make the Orioles team for sure as well
  9. Mike Ford selected. The kid is an undersized 1b who has hit the s*** out of the ball everywhere he has gone. He's older for a prospect, but has the kind of bat that a team like the Mariners could use. He will be a challenger for the 1b spot on a middling Mariners team
  10. Rule V hits begin. Anyelo Gomez and Nestor Cortes selected. I have a feeling we don't see either player back. Gomez is a failed starter who converted to relief and found a new life. Kid sits 97-98 and routinely hits 100. His changeup is a 70 on the 20-80 ratings scale. He's going to stick with Atlanta. Cortes is a crafty lefty who has dominated everywhere he has gone without elite power. He will definitely make an awful Braves team
  11. Jeter was over a barrel. Stanton’s no-trade limited his options and they had to shed his salary. Plus, he did manage to get Castro who he can flip and Guzman. Devers has a high ceiling but he’s eons away
  12. This is a results driven market. If the results are there on opening day, then the time the moves are made is irrelevant. The one thing DD has been tight lipped on is who his target is. We know he has one. We don't know if it is who we think it might be
  13. We did that to some degree with Headley. We dealt Mitchell, a guy who would make the major league clubs of most of the other 29 in the game, with Headley so the Padres would eat the entire contract
  14. It would. But who do you deal? Scout had a good article and they think we should package Acevedo with Frazier and get something really shiny. We could do that with ease, but I think we should package guys together and get young, controllable pitching if anything. Then again, we already have young, controllable pitching
  15. Who knows what his free agent money would be, though. The 2017/2018 market hasn't been set yet, so any deal now isn't going to afford him the market to allow a window for extension talks. Also, a fair amount of teams are gearing up for next offseason. The extension talks could be obscene by then. You don't go to your final season saying youre going year to year and not complete the deal unless you are offered stupid money. Machado would need a 10 yr $350 mil offer to spurn FA and nobody is giving that to him
  16. "Studies?" It's all about setting up your lineup. You want to stick the faster guys with good OBP ahead of the bigger power, best hitter guys since they can move base to base more frequently. The #3 hitter is also guaranteed to hit in the first inning, unlike the cleanup guy. I know the statheads think you should put your best hitter in the leadoff spot, but that also limits their ability to drive in runs as the lower OBP guys will be batting right in front of them when the lineup turns over
  17. Ours might be. BTW, the Marlins aren't done yet. If I were them, I'd deal Bour, Urena, Realmuto and Yelich. If the window is looking to be 5 years, then why waste time with guys who wont be there. Blow the whole thing up, collect prospects, collect draft picks, aggressively sign INTL guys and do things the right way. Go all the way
  18. The #3 hitter is almost always the best hitter in the lineup
  19. I get the ideals for the Yankees that they can go out and go big. The thing is, we do have a 40 man crunch and I expect to see a ton of Yankees to be selected tomorrow in the Rule V. What I don't understand is the urgency to add to our lineup when we have MLB ready, highly regarded rookies waiting in the wings AND we have a lineup 1-7 that can stand with practically any lineup out there past or present. I get the idea of wanting a top flight pitcher, but we do have a very solid rotation. We have a pen that is rivalled by none. Unless a deal fell into Cash's lap, I wouldn't be as aggressive as he is. My only thought is, maybe Cash has identified which prospects might have hit their peak value. if that is the case, trade away Cash, trade away
  20. It only works if you have a real #3 hitter
  21. The Giants are going to need to either rebuild or gain offense. They tried for Ohtani and Stanton. They whiffed on both. Posey is in need of a move out from the C spot to stay healthy and Belt is blocking his usual path. Belt is being paid well. Pence is a shell of himself. Bumgarner missed time due to a stupid incident, but he is nails yet the rest of that rotation is utterly garbage. Their pen went to hell also. Heck, they were the worst team in baseball by 2 games. They would have needed 26 more wins to reach 90. It isn't like they were close. So if they think their window isn't closed, then yes, they will be going all in on JD. If they look in the mirror and see they need to sell assets, then we could have a heck of a firesale and it would guarantee JD lands in the bean
  22. I think if we ever had a team that could carry some kids, this one is it. Our rotation can carry a kid and our lineup can carry two. Andujar is going to hit. I think this kid comes in and hits at least .280 and more likely .300 right off the bat. He probably shows at least Chase Headley power now, the question is his defense. If his footwork is ready, then go cheap and use the kid. Torres might need some time in AAA since he missed a lot of time last yr, but Wade is ready and can at least be a placeholder with regular PT. I don't know why we keep on going for the moon when we don't have to
  23. Like all wide bodied 3b's, they eventually need to move across the diamond. Devers will not be a 3b beyond the age of 30. Book it right now. He has the looks of a young Nelson Cruz. The kid will fill in and when he does, 3b will be a distant memory but his power should blossom. I like Devers a lot, I just think long term, he is your 1b
  24. I still think he will nab a top 100 prospect plus some high upside lower level guys. His theoretical worth would be higher because acquiring him now would allow the receiving team to get draft pick comp. Where the Orioles could really make their hay would be dealing to a contender at the deadline if they don't like the packages now. Think about it. Boston is 2 games behind NYY and leading the WC chase. The pitching has been off the charts but the hitting blows and they're desperate to deal. At the same time, Machado is back to 2016 form and tearing the cover off the ball. Maybe the return would be higher?
