C Sanchez 1B Bird 2B Torres 3B Andujar SS Gregorius LF Gardner CF Hicks RF Judge DH Stanton BN Romine BN Ellsbury BN Torreyes BN Wade This will probably be the position player alignment on opening day if no other moves are made. I am sure we will get some infield depth in the form of veteran retread signings, but internally we have the guys capable of fleshing our this team. Wade and Torreyes can start for a bit as well if need be if the two rookies starting aren’t ready. Either way, that’s how I think we go about the club this year 1. Severino 2. Tanaka 3. Gray 4. Sabathia 5. Montgomery CL Chapman RP Betances RP Robertson RP Kahnle RP Warren RP Shreve RP Green For now, very similar to the end of last year. We have depth behind them in terms of starting and relief talent. The rotation is very good and could be elite if Tanaka continues his second half dominance which was more in line with his career numbers.

    Upton has been far less consistent in his career than JD since JD got regular PT in DET.

    Cabrera’s deal goes to 42 IIRC. That’s a stupid deal regardless. Stanton’s deal goes to 38. While not ideal, there’s a good chance Stanton is still showing elite power by then. He just might not have any other useful characteristics by then

    The talent is irrelevant. The only guy who’s sticking is Culbertson as the UTIL guy in Atlanta. The Dodgers are dealing a bunch of guys in their final season for two years of Kemp which re-sets their lux tax for 2018. This means that they’re in with the lowest penalty for the FAs in 2019. My guess is they re-sign Kershaw and get Harper. Big time news for sure

    Maybe he is a douche. But can he regain his low HR rate while dominating the competition in 2018. The addition of CC and the continued talks tells me Montgomery is in play. We shall see

    Yankees are continuing with Cole negotiations. That tells me JMont and Frazier are in the deal. We shall see

    Sabathia re-signed. Sounds like the Pirates asked for too much or JMont is in the deal. Either way, 2018 Yankees are loaded

    They can’t leave in 3 years as they just got a new ballpark and that usually means a LONG lease. Thing is, they tore down twice before even when they were winning. The fans don’t come whether they win or lose. They will make revenue sharing money while losing and build up again.

    Or he could have continued to collect his massive salary and either stayed on for the duration or opted out. The Marlins investors need to make some money in 2018. I don’t blame them. The best way is a total tear down.

    I still think you’re in for two. I still think the sox get JD. JD might want to play the OF, but his insistence might cost him $30-$40 million. I doubt he leaves that kind of dough on the table as he was a late bloomer and this is his only shot at a big contract. I also think you’re going to sign either Duda, Adams or Morrison to platoon with Hanley. It’s a money saving move by preventing Hanley from hitting his option.

    Einstein, what I meant was Pom doesn’t go deep into games. His IP/start average is sub 6 which is atrocious. He hasn’t reached 180IP in a season because of his overabundance of pitches thrown per inning. This burns Your pen. Yes, he’s effective in the 5.2IP he averages, but he leaves the pen more work than he should. Also, anyone touting Porcello above Cole is an idiot, plain and simple.

    Carlos Santana is worlds better than Moreland. Mitchey 2 bags is not a very good hitter. He hasn't really ever been a plus hitter. Hes a plus defender who wont embarrass himself offensively. That's it.

    Boras is a genius. He is the king of agent bluster. He is all about the risk reward ratio. Some of his clients get burned, most get well rewarded. JD is a top 5 power bat in all of baseball and he will be paid like one. Thing is, the 7 yrs $210 mil is ridiculous and Boras knows it. The cost will come down, but I don't think it comes down below the $25 mil per annum mark. With relievers raking in $10 mil per year, an elite power hitter should bring in $25 mil for sure. I think Boras knows that Boston is the best option from a financial perspective. What I think JD has asked Boras to do is drive up the prices offered by the NL teams so he can play defense. If a team like SF or AZ comes close to the Boston offer, he isn't coming. But I don't think anyone will. I think this staring contest will be won by Boston. I can see 5 yrs $125 mil maybe with a vesting option for year 6

    Morrison is just as likely to hit 38 bombs again as he is to hit .200 with 15HR. He has to be plan C or D for you guys. If he winds up as a plan A or B, you're entirely at the whim of a wildly inconsistent yet talented player

    Moore saw a worrisome drop in velocity AND a rise in HR rate. That would concern the hell out of me, especially with him playing half his games in spacious AT&T park. Moore in Texas is going to be a Juggs machine if he doesn't get his velocity back

    Yes, they had to cut $30 mil, but what would they have been left with? They were a sub .500 team with a great offense, absolutely awful pitching staff, no farm system and no money to spend. Would you rather it be Giancarlo Stanton and the bumbling Marlins rumbling into stadiums losing 100 games but having Giancarlo hit 60 bombs? That's ridiculous. Once they determined that they had to trade off assets rather than add, they had to rebuild. Their farm was something like #28 in the game. It wont be after the rest is burnt to the ground for sure

    SD took on all the money, but also got a guy who is going to end up in their rotation in Mitchell. Plus, Headley was a 2+ WAR guy with his defense and OBP factored in on a one year deal that was reasonable. Porcello has 2 yrs $42 mil remaining and Hanley has 1 yr $22 mil remaining. That's considerably more money and both of those players had either replacement level or sub replacement level production in 2017

    You’re cherry picking stats. A minuscule ERA+ difference from a guy who can’t give innings doesn’t help your ball club.

    Santana took the high AAV over the bigger guarantee. Kudos to him. I pegged him for 5 years $85 mil at the outset of FA. If he hits like he has been for those 3 seasons, then the $17.5 mil option will be kicked in and he’ll nab 4 yrs $77.5 mil. Either way, he got paid well.

    I can understand fans not getting basic business sense, but the Stanton thing isn't on Jeter. Jeter had two deals in place, one with StL and another with SF. He accepted the packages and all he needed was Stanton to waive his NTC. He didn't. He came back with a list of 4 teams. The Cubs couldn't afford him as they had their own issues with payroll (especially the ridiculously bad contract of Heyward out there). The Astros are too busy trying to save cash to re-sign their impending FA's after 2018. The Dodgers are really trying to cut payroll in response to a likely opt out of their star pitcher. The Dodgers offer was amusing. AdGon and Kazmir for Stanton and $30 mil. No prospects, just dead contracts from players who probably aren't ever playing again plus $30 mil. When you consider the two viable options were the garbage LA offer and the Yankees offer, you see why Stanton is in pinstripes

    While Boras is saying JD wouldn't mind DH'ing, Martinez is sending out feelers letting it be known that he wants to play defense. I think DD played this one right on the money. JD lost the Cardinals and the Yankees (even though they weren't big, but Boras could at least try to play them up) and while the Giants are "clearing salary", I doubt they can outbid Boston and probably shouldn't as they need a rebuild badly. JD might find himself between a short money deal staying in the NL or a big money deal DH'ing in Boston

    Pomeranz is 2 years older, had one year of control left and has posted 6 less WAR than Cole over his career. Cole has also reached the 200IP plateau twice, something that Pomeranz has yet to accomplish. Cole doesn't have the career chops that Price does, but is Price the guy he was 5 years ago or is he the broken down converted reliever who couldn't throw more than a month's worth of starters innings before his elbow barked at him?
