  1. Its reasonable. Send him down, let him get comfortable. It wont be the last we see of him
  2. I also think he will be a very good big league pitcher, I just see it out of the pen. His 4 seamer is flat and he cannot seem to locate his 2 seamer, so when he needs to go through a lineup a few times, he gets burned. In short spurts, the 4 seamer is 100mph and the 2 seamer high 90s. Very difficult for the batter to center and the curve can be really good. Rather than tweak him for 7 innings a game, having him drop his change and focus on FB-curve for 3 hitters would make him really good. I have him on my Chad Green watch for this year. I think the kid could be that kind of reliever
  3. I think Cessa ends up a high leverage reliever. He has a deep repertoire, but he loses command at times and becomes a Juggs machine. When he was coming out of the pen, he was throwing 100mph with a sick breaking ball. They will likely keep him stretched out as he is on the 40 man and see what he can do as their 6th starter out of the gate.
  4. Rather than a 2-018 version, what about a "what the Yanks would do if the starting 9 got ebola" version. IE, the depth version. On offense, if the starting 9 are Sanchez, Bird, Walker, Gregorius, Drury, Gardner, Hicks, Judge and Stanton. C: Higashioka would probably have a leg up just due to his power potential, but Romine at least is steady defensively. 1B: Tyler Austin 2B: Wade SS: Torres 3B: Andujar UTIL: Torreyes/Estrada LF: Frazier CF: Florial RF: McKinney DH: Ellsbury SP1: Sheffield SP2: Adams SP3: Acevedo SP4: Cessa SP5: German SP6: Abreu Relief: Holder, Coshow, Carroll, Heller, Feyereisen Its literally sick how much depth we have
  5. We not only have the pieces, we have the redundancy. Outside of the catchers position, we have prospect after prospect who can cover all spots on the diamond and all parts of a pitching staff. We can deal from any of those areas if we need to
  6. I send Torreyes down since Wade is a speed demon. Also, Wade is the better fielder as well as a natural SS and I think Wade has a lot more offensive potential than Torreyes. I think Wade can be a .280/.350/.400 guy one day with 30 steals and play top notch D as a 2b. Torreyes just doesn't have that in him
  7. Provided good health on both sides, there is really no question who will be better. Even if Betts rebounds and Bogaerts finds it, etc, the ceilings on the Yanks side are just better and the floors are higher. The innings eaters on the team are going to be spread out. With Gray in the fold, the Yanks return 5 starters who each reached 148IP or more. Sevy led the group with 193 and that is only because they skipped him a few times. He was on pace for 210-220 prior to their maintenance plan. I also think a healthy Gray is a horse. He was 200IP plus for 2 seasons before breaking down in 2016 which had a carryover effect into the beginning of 2017. Once he returned full force, he didn't miss a beat. I think he is going to be a good bet for 200IP in 2018. The other thing NY finished with was health, which the sox did not. Price was injured and ERod had surgery as did Wright. Now Pom is down with an injury. Right now, the Yanks depth and health has to be taken into account when comparing the two. Also, assuming a need to reach into the depth, I doubt anyone would consider the sox to have near the depth of the Yankees. The Yanks are going to have 5 starters with big league stuff who are ready at AAA. German, Cessa, Sheffield, Acevedo and Adams. All 5 will be big league starters in their careers, they just happened to be buried in this depth. Consider the Yankees dealt off what would have been the 6th starter down there (Mitchell) and got the Padres to eat $13 mil to do it. The arm machine is ridiculous
  8. The big thing about Walker is it gives us someone who is as consistent as they come on a short term, minimal money deal at a key position of need. Gleyber is proving this spring that he isn't ready. Wade is proving he could be ready. Torreyes is holding his own. Andujar is hitting the s*** out of the ball. Drury is hitting the piss out of the ball. Now you add in Walker. I agree on the trade front. If Walker puts up his standard .260/.340/.440 line and Gleyber is just killing it in the minors, then deal Walker for useful parts and bring up Torres. He cements our ability to give the kids more time AND add a year of control onto their prime. He also will give us consistent offense. The lineup is bonkers. I love the move
  9. Walker really adds to this lineup. Torres might end up better, but Walker has been a steady force offensively for his whole career. He’s a high OBP guy capable of swatting 20HRs and play reasonable defense at a premium position. Walker should outperform Nunez offensively
  10. Extra year of prime we just gained
  11. 1. Gardner LF 2. Judge RF 3. Stanton DH 4. Bird 1B 5. Sanchez C 6. Gregorius SS 7. Hicks CF 8. Walker 2B 9. Drury 3B That’s a hell of a lineup. Chance for 20HR from every spot
  12. While I’d love to see the kids, you just can’t turn this kind of deal away. He’s a high OBP 2b who has consistently shown plus power for the position. The better part of his splits is as a LHH as well which works well with the Stadium. He’s a touch below average defensively, but is far better defensively than what we had last year. I’m not sure if this “dooms” both of the kids to AAA for the season. Walker has some injury issues, so counting on him for a full year might be a bit much. Also, with Drury being a righty and capable of covering both positions and Walker being very deficient as a RHH, I think long into the year we could see either Andujar or Torres carve out time against left handed pitching with Drury shifting to 2b. Either way, this allows us to re-set the clocks with the kids and earn another year of service time without tanking the production for a month
  13. Tanaka at least had a procedure that is proven to heal the tear, at least proven now. At the time, it was voodoo
  14. Wright had the same procedure are Pedroia and he isn't ready for prime time. Just an FYI. If Pom misses time, then the sox roll out of camp with Sale, Price, Porcello, Johnson, ??. The way the sox schedule is set up, you will need a 5th starter on April 2nd then not again until April 14th. Maybe Velazquez makes that April 2nd start and the sox hold Pom back until April 12th. That pushes Johnson back to the 14th. The schedule is really whacky. You will need a 4th and 5th starter first time through, but with the off days built in for the sox return to Fenway, you can run 3 starters out there for a turn before you have to use your 4 and 5 again. Gives the sox time to baby Pomeranz and an outside chance that ERod is ready by then
  15. Fister was in a unique situation. I anticipate that any offer of significance puts the sox over that final hurdle. My anticipation is the staff of Sale, Price, Pom, Porcello, ERod, Wright, Johnson, Velasquez etc will end up being what you roll with barring a major injury (like Price, Sale or Pom). Anything of significance will push the sox over that final hurdle which isn't what they want
  16. By signing Nunez, you filled an opening day hole. What you also did is potentially fill any IF hole in the meantime. Flexibility will be key. If Pedroia cannot come back or comes back a shell of himself, you have his replacement. Should Bogey go down, Nunez can slot in for a bit at SS. Should Devers go down, Nunez can head there. Should Moreland go down, Devers can slide over and Nunez can take 3b. This is akin to what the Yanks did with Drury. You can create a super-team, but if your depth is thin, you're an injury away from being bad
  17. For some reason, I thought Mata was a fireballer.
  18. Btw guys, I think the sox are projected to have the highest payroll in baseball this yr
  19. Who cares if Mookie sucks in ST. It’s ST
  20. If this hot stove is any indication, JDM and Price are staying put
  21. Our pitching in the minors is impressive for sure and even with all the deals we made, we haven't really hit the near big league level arms.
  22. Lackey turns 40 during the playoffs, saw a velo drop last season and while his upper 4ERA was bad, his FIP was in the mid 5's. Granted, he did finish on a good not with a sub 4ERA after the ASB. I think Lackey would have to settle for a non guaranteed deal and after all the money he has made, I doubt he bites. He is one I would have squarely in the "retired" category. I don't think he loves it enough
  23. I had a guy I played with who would intentionally stay at 1st after hits during blowouts because he didn't want to use up his extra base hits in blowouts.
  24. Update today. He will resume his throwing program. Outside chance he breaks camp with the club
