  1. Houston has become our house of horrors
  2. I don't know. Morton looks unhittable. BTW, Gray looked really good too
  3. That may be true, but good closers blow 7 or 8 games a year. Kimbrel only blew 4 last year. Are you willing to lose 3 or 4 more games because of the downgrade? Kimbrel is 66 for 72 in save opportunities since he got to Boston. That is 91.6%. Look at the numbers from so called "good" closers from last year Colome 88% Osuna 79.5% Knebel 86.7% Allen 88% Herrera 83.8% Say an elite closer saves 90% and a good closer saves 84%. Assuming 50 chances, you are going to blow 3 more games with a "good" closer than you are with an elite one. These are wins that turn into losses or wins later on. Also, a "good" closer on the open market is worth over $10 mil per year. Heck, good middle relief guys are getting $8 mil a year. Kimbrel may end up being 8 or 9 mil more than a good closer per year, but he also comes with 3 more locked down wins. If that worth it?
  4. In Austin's big league career, he is a .814 OPS player. That's damn good for a guy who doesn't start every game
  5. I don't know if he earns himself a starting gig once we are all fully healthy, but he at least has earned himself platoon time. He can play RF reasonable well. That was his minor league position before we had a need at 1b 2 years ago. That at leads adds to his versatility. Here is the role I see Austin occupying. I see him being in the lineup every day against lefties. He may be at 1b. He may be DHing with Stanton out in LF. He may be in RF with Judge moving to LF. I also see him as a ready made replacement for Bird when he gets hurt (its when, not if). In that role, he will play almost every game against Boston, rack up probably 300 or so ABs and be a pretty solid offensive contributor.
  6. Austin might take some ABs from Bird. Austin kills LH pitching. He’s also a corner OFer, backup 3b and emergency catcher (he was drafted as a catcher). Austin is no slouch. He has hit every season since he recovered from his wrist injury and he has the stuff to hit for power and average. I think he makes Bird’s recovery smooth and allows us to take our time with him
  7. CC has the lowest exit velocity of all pitchers in baseball. He has successfully changed from a power pitcher to a contact pitcher with impeccable command. Angel Hernandez was behind the plate last night and he was giving 3-4 inches off the outside corner and both pitchers ate the opposing lineups alive with that corner. CC lived out there, and when a hitter would cheat outside, he’d come in with a cutter and break a bat. He was great. Our offense couldn’t bring any runners in aside from Sanchez’ moon shot, but it was good enough for our 9th in a row. Big test coming up with us going to Houston.
  8. Neil Walker might end up being DFAd when Bird returns. This guy was as steady as they came the last 8 seasons, but he has been nothing but terrible for us. Austin's return from suspension should plant Walker on the bench and Bird's return should free him up for opportunities elsewhere. Also, CC going out for the 7th is always dicey. We have a rested pen. I'd have Green-KRob-Chap ready
  9. Our pen has been very solid of late. On this 8 game run, we have 25.2IP of relief pitching and only 3ER.
  10. Bogaerts got banged up yesterday, so they don’t have a choice. Nunez has to play the field
  11. We will beat the piss out of this awful Rays team. They’ve got no reason to be hitting the way. They’re a collection of garbage
  12. Boom. Hope you get swept by the Rays!!!
  13. And another one. We beat the s*** out of the angels. Tanaka dominated. The bats were hot. The kids were killing it too. Keep this train a rolling tonight on ESPN.
  14. After the sox went bonkers through 19 games, I was worried they would jump out to an insurmountable lead. Instead, the A’s and Rays take the first two series the sox have lost and the lead is down to 2. It seems Price is acting more like 2016 and Pomeranz cannot pitch his way onto a collegiate roster let along a big league one. Your offense went nuts early on, but your team isn’t built to bludgeon. Your team is built to pitch well and score enough to win. If Price is mediocre and Pom is lost, then you’re gonna be in some serious trouble. Darn
  15. It looks like the ball hit a sprinkler head. It didn’t seem to have much English on it and once it hit the ground, it kicked left
  16. Tick another game off the deficit. Sevy was good. Our pen was great. Our offense had tons of chances and finally broke through. Didi is ridiculous right now. We have the second best record in the AL. We are coming for you Boston
  17. Also the best 19-6 team in the league
  18. Welcome back UN? Why the long sabbatical?
  19. One Red Seat. ORS was a great member of this forum. I had many a battle with him. He is missed
  20. If you guys need to rest an OFer or JD for a game, Nunez to 3b and Devers to DH is looking better and better
  21. It's not just arm strength. He cannot seem to pull anything down in the zone. He is lucky he is facing the Rays. If he faced a team with a big league caliber lineup, he'd have given up 8 runs
  22. When I was a kid, MVP baseball set out their initial video game on SNES. If you put a position player in to pitch, the guy had 5 pitches, all of them were FAT. I am thinking Pom is throwing a damn good FAT pitch
  23. Maybe Pomeranz' velocity is down because his "forearm strain" and elbow injury for years' past has caught up to him
