  1. He didn’t get much minors time, and if Nunez wasn’t sucking wind, Devers might use a breather there
  2. Consider the source. Bradfo is a moron
  3. I don't see Beeks getting a shot this year simply because you have too many cooks in the kitchen up in the bigs. Velasquez, Johnson and Wright are all capable of starting and are all on your big league roster. You exhaust those options before going to the minors
  4. That is what I think. I anticipate your top 2 picks to be college players who can quickly ascend the minors and your prospect rankings
  5. That is what I am saying. You need some breaks and most teams don't get them in Houston. Your best bet is to grind down their starter and feast on the pen. Without Betts and Pedey and with Devers struggling, you aren't able to get the starters out early and hence cannot ever seem to get on top
  6. For the Yankees, we need bats. Outside of Florial (who is on the DL) and Frazier (AAA), our offensive prospects haven't developed as fast as hoped (one got shot, so there is that). While there is a wave from the Dominican signed this past year, we wont see them in long season leagues for another 2-3 years. We need guys who can hit who can methodically move through our system and replenish some longer term coming losses. I can understand Turang, but we have been burned with the athletic types in the past who don't ever develop the stick. I would love to see us get Casas or Beer. Both of those guys have light tower power and solid offensive profiles in general. You guys need picks who can rocket through your system. With the window or cliff or whatever you want to call it, you need guys who can reach the bigs quickly or can become prime trade bait quickly. Beer and Casas might be able to provide that, probably more the former than the latter. Rolison makes a ton of sense as well in that mold
  7. Porcello is going against Verlander. Verlander has been unbelievable this year. Even if Porcello gives an ace performance, this one looks like a loss, especially without Mookie. Houston is hard to beat in Houston. Theyre especially hard to beat when they line up their rotation the way they did against you. Your best shot was McCullers and Keuchel. You missed the opportunity vs McCullers and Keuchel misses you this time around
  8. It absolutely is. Stanton has always been a lefty masher (1.120 OPS against from 15-17), but he has historically hit well vs RHP also (.883 in same time frame). He looks almost like he isn't seeing the ball well. I don't know what it is, but he looks defeated before he gets out there. Might be time for Boone to sit him for 3 or 4 games and just let him clear his head
  9. Fangraphs is mocking Anthony Seigler to the Yankees and Triston Casas to the Sox. I really hope the roles get reversed here. If Casas is available for us, I want him. He's a 1b of the future, so that limits his upside, but he has probably the best power of anyone in the draft, college included. Seigler is no slouch, projected to be able to stay behind the dish and hit from both sides of the plate, but when you have the opportunity to get a guy with 30+HR power potential and not so big a gap between potential and now, you take it. Mayo has the Yanks getting Brice Turang and the Sox Ryan Rolison. Turang was supposed to be in the discussion for the top spot after the draft last year, but some prospect fatigue and a drop in offensive production is seeing him slide. I typically wouldn't have an issue with a guy like this, but if better offensive players are available, I would take them. I don't want a project offensively with athleticism as those guys bust more than boom, but Turang might break that mold just because of how long he has been on the prospect circle and how ridiculously high the expectations are. I can understand the pick if it is made, but depending on who they pass on will determine if I like it or not. Rolison is more a crafty lefty who should fly through the lower levels. Deep arsenal with a killer curve and the poise to stay in the rotation, he safely projects to the middle or back end of a rotation. He tops out around 93mph, so he isn't a true soft tosser, but he doesn't have high end velocity. This pick would be a good one for Boston as they need a guy who can rocket through the system and either become an option in the bigs or for trade.
  10. Harper is a special talent for sure, but I doubt the NY will go for him. Our offense is nails right now. We have power and patience up and down the lineup and while we will have an opening after this year with Gardner all but guaranteed to have his option turned down, we have his ready made replacement in the minors who is absolutely killing baseballs. Frazier is only 23 yrs old and his triple slash is .330/.404/.619 with 5HR, 7 doubles, 3 triples, and 4 steals in 24 games. He was rushed a bit to AAA when we first got him. He was good last yr in AAA before having a middling debut. He has been dominant this year and if we lose any OFers for a significant amount of time, he will ascend. Also, I doubt we do another long term contract with Stanton on the books (and I expect Stanton to rebound eventually, he is too good not to). We got a sweet deal on Stanton's contract. $22 mil AAV counting to the lux tax through all of Stanton's prime is pretty damn good, assuming he doesn't opt out. Harper is staring at a stupid contract. Something along the lines of $30-$35 mil AAV with a front loaded contract and an opt out. While we will have money to burn, I wonder if we are better off going for pitching. Sevy is an ace, but his days of being cheap are soon to be in the past. Tanaka has been up and down, but he will likely be fine. Gray has to turn a corner here, but we only have him for one more season. After him, we have Montgomery who might get TJS and German, who is by no means a lock to hang. We have a ton of kids, but all of them have taken a slight step back this year and nobody is ready to ascend like Frazier appears to be on the offensive side. I wonder if the prudent move is to keep the offense as is, promote from within and go after a guy like Keuchel, Morton or Corbin.
  11. How? He started the year with 9 of 11 quality starts. The two games he didn't QS in he went 5IP each time and allow 2 or less ER. Of those 11 starts, he allowed 1 or 0ER 7 times. His ERA was at 2.17 after that time. He struggled the last 2 starts, allowing 10ER in 10.1IP. He also happened to face the #3 and #4 offenses in baseball. It happens. If I had Chris Sale on my team, I would be very happy with his performance to date and if he produced the exact same ERA, WHIP, K and BB per 9IP numbers, I would be ecstatic. I wonder sometimes if you guys expect him to be Pedro circa 1999. That isn't happening again. Sale is a bona fide ace who will be top 5 in CY again this year.
  12. If Xander stayed in the mid .800 OPS range, he will be breaking the damn bank. If he reaches his potential, especially in his walk year, then he could own the bank. As is, if he remains a .280/20/80 hitter with reasonable defense, he will be paid handsomely, especially since he will be so young as an FA. Xander is 25 and his first full year of his new contract will be played at age 27. He could reasonably sign an 8 year deal and be in his prime for all but the final year or so of it.
  13. JD should be batting 3rd at the lowest. I would wonder what a lineup with Betts leadoff and JDM 2nd would look like.
  14. By stating he’s been a disappointment, you insinuated he was a problem
  15. This is the first year that they don’t, to be totally honest. They could beat us in the playoffs as nothing is guaranteed, but the yanks are loaded for bear and capable of winning a title. I haven’t felt like that at the beginning of a season in a long, long time. The fact that the Sox are really good this year is icing on the cake. I love a good pennant race between the two rivals
  16. You guys are so insecure. Then again, I did generate a discussion on a Saturday morning. Can anyone actually debate Devers performance and some reason you think he will turn around?
  17. Far be it from me to defend a Sox player, but are you kidding? Sale has a sub 1 WHIP, 12+K/9IP pitcher this year. His ERA is now 0.1 higher than it was last year and that’s with him having his two worst starts skewing the sample size. Sale had been a 4.9-6.1 WAR guy nearly every year in chicago. Last yr, he was at 7.7. This year, he’s on pace for 6-6.5. He is not your problem
  18. They’ve been there for sure. The crazy thing is, our offense leads the league in runs per game and it hasn’t even come close to unlocking its potential. This thread is about the Sox, though. With Betts out, Holt has been good, but he’s no Betts. If you’re going to get some production elsewhere, the guy who needs to step up is Devers. He’s been an auto out for a month now
  19. So you guys are incapable of seeing how your stud kid 3b has sucked this far or debating otherwise? Isn’t that special
  20. With Betts potentially out a couple weeks and your depth tested, the key hitter in your lineup is Devers. The kid was nails last year, but this year he isn’t hitting for power, average or OBP. His defense hasn’t been good, but that’s to be expected. If you’re to hang with NY, Devers has to step up over the next two weeks
  21. Trade Sale? You’re percentage points down in the division, second best record in baseball and you want to deal your ace and tank? That’s really dumb. You’ve got a window. You are right inside of it. You maximize it then rebuild. With HanRam out of the picture, you can keep Kimbrel. This extends your window through next year. Your team is good enough to win it all. Let the chips fall at this point
  22. Betances made it interesting. The offense actually squandered multiple chances but put up enough. Gray was nails. Chapman was Chap. Stanton looks lost again
  23. I am of the belief now that if you want to win, your best hitters should hit the most times. I would line them up 1-9 in order of how good they are
  24. Sonny Gray dominant today. We need to see more of this
  25. Microfracture surgery is meant to stimulate cartilage growth in an arthritic joint. It's a hail mary for an otherwise diseased joint
