  1. Lester just doesnt have it today. 40 pitches to get 4 outs, I expect an appearance by Freddy tonight at this rate.
  2. There is no way shealy gets dealt by KC. He has 6 yrs of control ahead of him and he is a guy who can be a middle of the order power hitter. Expect to see him in a Royals uni for at least 5 years.
  3. I think he might just be spouting like every other athlete does when they lose their mental toughness. No way this guy leaves 3 mil on the table for one more go at it. Chances are, if he accepts the player option, he'll likely get traded or DFA'd anyway.
  4. In 2004, the Red Sox had two aces in Schilling and Pedro. They had a sinkerballer who ate innings in Lowe. They had Wake having a career year. They had a lights out bullpen with solid arms on the left side and the right side with great middle men and a great closer. They also had Damon in CF leading the charge with guys like Mueller, Nixon, and Varitek giving their lungs for a win. They also had the motivation of ending 86 years of failure. None of the above are applicable to this years team. Just because they did it once in the last 4 decades does not mean that if one remembers, it will happen. The only way they win is if they pitch, plain and simple, and that hasnt been happening.
  5. Well, the sox are in a win-win situation right now.....if they win. The twins losing Liriano means that they will likely be fading fast. The Yankees are playing the White Sox right now, and both teams are in a dogfight with them over two spots. Now, if the sox had their choice of who to root for, who would it be? The Yankees are clearly a better team right now top to bottom and they have Matsui, Sheff, and Cano returning to the lineup over the next few weeks and they also have Dotel in the wings with the potential of adding Pavano in September. Overall, the sox had their chance at the yankees when their bats went down, now I think they may have lost that chance. That being said, maybe the red sox should wish for a sweep of the white sox? Just throwing s*** against the wall and hoping it sticks here. Is anyone thinking the same way? Regardless, if the Sox lose ground to either the yankees or the white sox over the next 3 games, they should hang themselves. This should be a sweep and nothing less.
  6. If Mirabelli is still unhealthy by the time Foulke is ready, don't you think Mirabelli might hit the DL and open up the spot for Foulke? If not, Miller is the likely candidate. They wont have 3 catchers lounging around with the big club.
  7. Foulke is a FA at the end of this yr anyway
  8. But he is hot right now. 5QS in a row with playoff dominance in his blood. He would have been an asset.
  9. Hey sox fan, I do not want to step on anyone's toes as the new guy, but I do not really think that Damon or Pedro are overpaid in comparison to the market. Also, one question for you If the sox retained all of their 2004 parts, do you think they win the world series last yr or this yr? If so, then letting those guys walk was a bad move.
  10. It is one of those things that we all kinda understand but we cannot teach. Sorry nooner, by the way, I could go for a nooner right now.
  11. And thus far the guy is playing like a scared little boy. He has done nothing thus far to justify essentially being dealt for Pedro.
  12. thanks for the info 700. It doesnt look good.
  13. I will be honest with you. The past 2 years have really boggled me. They say they want to go young, then they get Wells to fill a rotation spot and re-up Wake. They have a stud rookie in the minors and instead of giving him the SS job after Cabrera left, they signed ERent to big money and then trade the young kid away, with a top pitching prospect for a young pitcher with injury problems and a history of blowing up on the road. If they really wanted to go young, Anibal Sanchez would be in the rotation and Hanley would be the starting SS for the sox. At the same time, the 22 mil they spent on ERent, the 3 mil they spent on AGon and the load of cash they just spent on Beckett could have been saved and used this offseason on a guy like Zito. If their goal is to rebuild, they sure could stay competitive and still give the rookies a shot. Thing is, even with the young guys like MDC, Hansen, Lester, Papelbon, Youk, Beckett, and Crisp, the sox are still an old team. It is like they are telling the fans one thing and doing another, while focusing on the one or two instances of them actually following their publicized "plan". I think they would take making an extra 20 mil and being competetive but not great over not making that extra cash and going for the gold.
  14. I agree with your idea, unless the sox got good news on Wake. If they think Wake will be back soon, then going out and getting a guy inked for 8 mil for next yr is not wise. As it is, I think Wake will be out into September, although I have no idea how those things work. If Wake doesn't come back, then not going after Hernandez is the same as giving up the season.
  15. this is a good deal for the dbacks. Livan has been nasty in his last few starts. Couple that with being added back into a pennant race, and I think he comes out guns blazin. The sox could have used him, but I read somewhere that he was actually claimed by the DBacks, so it never would have gotten to the sox.
  16. Torre needs to carry 12 because he has a one out pitcher on his squad. In the past he had 5 starters and 7 relievers capable of giving him 1+ innings. Now he has a guy in Myers who is a good guy against lefties, and I think he was obtained for Papi alone, but is a drain on a pen. Hey, someone was saying my spelling was bad, how is it now?
  17. Isn't this a bit premature? The way the sox are playing, they are going to be golfing in October. They have to turn it around before you think playoffs.
  18. Tavarez AL track record included a 5+ ERA in the AL in his career.
  19. arroyo could have helped this yr. Wily Mo is an investment in the future.
  20. In 2002, the red sox had 2 legitimit MVP candidates in Manny and Nomar and 2 legit cy young candidates in Pedro and Lowe, yet didnt even make the playoffs.
  21. I am still trying to figur out where the yankkes are an old team vs the sox. The Yankees have a 26 yr old pitcher with 13 wins and a sub 4era right now. The sox have one very young kid in Lester who is 5-1 right now and a guy who loves his run rupport in beck who has 13 wins and a 5era. The Yankees also have the big ticket AAA pitcher in Hughes waiting in the wings. As for bullpen, the sox have Paplbon, Hansen, and MDC, the yankees have Proctor, Farnsworth, and the young guys in the minors in Melancon and Cox who will be up within 2 years. In the lineup, the sox have the age advantage with Crisp, Youk and Pena being in their mid 20s, compared to Cano and Melky, but it isnt like the sox best players are young and it isnt like the yankees players are terribly old (most in the 30-32 range). The sox are old as well, and like it or not, they are a right now team.
  22. So you are advocatig a trust in the organization while you watch all of the sox champions go off to other teams? Organization trust is built by the loyalty to the fans, winning, and keeping the core of your team together. The sox have upped their ticket prices, they have recking balled a champonship team and tore the core to the ground. Some fan will be upset. Its just a fact of lief.
  23. I undrstand the KC's of the world. But the sox are sold out every night, they have fans all across the world, let alone the US and their pockets are overflowing. Their popularity has tripled since the curse ended. If they lapse back into medicority, they will lose that income. I would think from a business standpoint, it is better to spend an extra 50 to make an extra 50 and increase popularity than to stand pat.
  24. true, but by dumping Pedro, the sox also added Clement, there's your 8 mil right there.
  25. MC, after waiting forever to see a champonship, would you rather win one today and have 4 yr of medocrity or be good but not great for the next 5 years. At least you get another ring if you go for the gold now. Nobody remembers who finishes second, nobody rembers who gets knocked out in the first round of the playoffs. History only remembers the champs and the sox have 1 for their last 87 years. I'd think they wuld want anoter.
