  1. Paps was perfectly used last yr. 5th starter and a MR who proved he could handle setup opportunities and earned the setup job. I think Lester is carrying the burden of the Red Sox rotation as the 3 guy and he cannot handle it yet.
  2. Rudy Seanez should be hired for the HR derby, but he should pitch with all his might. They would still be hitting in Pittsburgh if that was the case.
  3. Control improves as you age, but not a ton, typically. There are a few guys who dramatically improve, like RJ did, but most will have a gradual but not huge improvement. Power hitters, on the other hand, usually start out as solid line drive hitters and grow into their bodies. Almost every single hitter, for that matter, improve their power as they age. It is totally different.
  4. I completely agree. I just think I was led astray by Gammons rantings about him. Talk about a PR maching going in the favor of the sox. I was led to believe that Lester was a Koufax (I know just kidding) and he comes out and is essentially a young Ted Lilly.
  5. And we thought he was just fat. He actually absorbs the entire team as the game gets on, it is rather impressive.
  6. True, but when you see your team scuffling in the rotation and you don't even try to make a small addition, then you essentially say that you are going to war with what you have. Even a 3 yr old blind kid can see the sox have rotation issues.
  7. Just when the momentum seems to shift, who comes up big? This guy is amazing.
  8. Actually, that says to me that he won't be a Schilling or a Moose. I don't think he will be this wild forever, but he sure doesnt look like a guy who will be painting corners on a whim.
  9. What needs to be evaluated is whether the sox are hurting Lester or is he is getting stronger. If Theo's credo is the future is more important, then sacrificing Lester's confidence in a pennant race this year makes no sense after he already decided that this year was a lost cause.
  10. Right now nothing is working. I wonder if bringing Lester up now and basically having him take his lumps in a pennant chase is the best thing for him. If I were Theo, I'd have a talk with the kid and gauge his feelings. If he looks like he is baffled or shaky, then maybe it is best for the future to send him down. As good as Paps is, Lester has been the jewel of the sox system for a while now and if he blows up, then all those potential deals where he was desired are wasted opportunities.
  11. And the yankees take the lead as the sox let the RoyAAAls pull away. Is this the twilight zone?
  12. He does nobody any good when he can only go 5 innings and put you in a deficit.
  13. He may have been overexposed. You never bring up a guy in the same season he is drafted.
  14. they came into today a half game behind and now they are tied. The white sox and the red sox are still playing so the twins have only gained a half game to this point.
  15. 5.47 ERA for Hansen. Who said he was worth letting Petey go?
  16. for the time being they are tied with the red sox and white sox for the wild card.
  17. At the rate Lester is going, he'll need tommy john. This f***in guy is a fine #5, but he doesnt have the guts or the stuff to be a #3 yet.
  18. sox and royAAAls locked up in a tight one.
  19. While I think his assertion that he would be good right now is funny to say the least, the best GMs in history never learned a lick of business or law in school. They were guys who proved that they could evaluate talent and they also played the game at a high level. These new execs these days are no better than the previous guys who were just great baseball guys.
  20. Now the sox are ahead. If you get down 2-0 against a good team, worry. Against the royals? Sit back and enjoy a nice comeback.
  21. true, but he is a guy who essentially sits at 91-92, and that doesn't qualify you as a power pitcher in my opinion.
  22. Different pitchers. Lester is a finesse guy, so he will have his lumps until he gets a feel for the hitters he is facing and until he gets the respect from the umps to get those close pitches. Liriano is a power guy who blows people away. He doesnt rely on finesse, just stuff, so he would be fine right off the bat.
  23. It is the bottom of the 2nd and the sox are facing the Royals. I have a feeling this 2 run deficit is transient.
