  1. Mr. DFA doing nothing again, getting a single right before Papi comes up, what a loser.
  2. actually, if things hold, the only pitcher to miss the 4 game TOR series would be Schilling.
  3. Red Sox 15-Aug Home vs Detroit (Schilling vs Bonderman) 16-Aug Home vs Detroit (Wells vs Verlander) 17-Aug DAY OFF 18-Aug Home vs NYY (Lester vs Wang) Game 2 Home vs NYY (Johnson vs Ponson) 19-Aug Home vs NYY (Beckett vs Johnson) 20-Aug Home vs NYY (Schilling vs Mussina) 21-Aug Home vs NYY (Wells vs Lidle) 22-Aug Away @ LAA (Snyder vs Saunders) 23-Aug Away @ LAA (Lester vs Escobar) 24-Aug Away @ LAA (Beckett vs Weaver) 25-Aug Away @ Seattle (Schilling vs Washburn) 26-Aug Away @ Seattle (Wells vs Piniero) 27-Aug Away @ Seattle (Johnson vs Meche) 28-Aug Away @ Oakland (Lester vs Blanton) 29-Aug Away @ Oakland (Beckett vs Loaiza) 30-Aug Away @ Oakland (Schilling vs Zito) 31-Aug Home vs Toronto (Wells vs Burnett) Yankees 15-Aug Away @ Baltimore (Mussina vs Bedard) 16-Aug Away @ Baltimore (Lidle vs Lopez) 17-Aug Away @ Baltimore (Wright vs Loewen) 18-Aug Away @ Boston (Wang vs Lester) Game 2 Away @ Boston (Ponson vs Johnson) 19-Aug Away @ Boston ( Johnson vs Beckett) 20-Aug Away @ Boston (Mussina vs Schilling) 21-Aug Away @ Boston (Wells vs Lidle) 22-Aug Away @ Seattle (Wright vs Meche) 23-Aug Away @ Seattle (Wang vs Moyer) 24-Aug Away @ Seattle (Johnson vs Hernandez) 25-Aug Away @ LAA (Mussina vs Lackey) 26-Aug Away @ LAA (Lidle vs Santana) 27-Aug Away @ LAA (Wright vs Saunders) 28-Aug DAY OFF 29-Aug Home vs Detroit (Wang vs Miner) 30-Aug Home vs Detroit (Johnson vs Robertson) 31-Aug Home vs Detroit (Mussina vs Bonderman) September starts with the yankees playing 3 against the twins and then 3 vs the royals. The sox start september with 3 vs toronto then 3 vs CWS. This is a crucial time for both clubs. Which matchups intrigue you the most and which ones scare you the most? I think that outside of the NYY/BOS stuff, the Schilling vs Zito matchup will be cool as well as the RJ vs Hernandez matchup.
  4. btw, I just went back and checked the archives and you have been consistent on your stance of "wait and see" with Beckett, so you are entitled to your opinion and you have stck to it. Kudos, it is those who post one thing then deny it when it proves wrong that really gets me.
  5. It doesnt change the fact that Beckett was brought here to be the ace of the staff. Both were supposed to be aces. Both have pitched like 3's or 4's this year, with RJ pitching like a 2 lately and Beckett pitching like a 5 recently. He has to turn it around. The sox pitching relies on more than just him, and he cannot bail right now.
  6. I disagree completely. RJ was expected to be the ace just like Beckett was. The difference is, RJ was supposed to be the ace of right now and Beckett was supposed to be the ace of right now and the future. The sox had no idea what they were getting out of Schilling and Beckett was their answer to stabilize the rotation. Schilling came back to form and reclaimed the ace spot when Beckett essentially handed it over like a little lamb. At the same time, RJ has pitched rather poorly to his standards this season, but he is turning it on at a major time of need. Beckett, a guy who is from the warm weather both in life and in baseball should be the guy who is surging as the heat increases, instead he is slumping and instead of looking like the future ace of the staff, he looks like an overpaid #5. If you want to talk about a disappointment, both are equally disappointing thus far, but Beckett is showing he is going to continue it while RJ looks like he is reversing it. As for the future, Beckett is the biggest disappointment of them all because he was supposed to be the cog that the future is built around and that is a major ??? right now.
  7. wow, I do defend Loretta, but wow. Best 2 hole hitter in baseball? One MVP candidate would likely disagre with that.
  8. Pedro left today's game with an injured pride and will be evaluated by trainers tomorrow. A pulled pride could keep him bitchy for the next few weeks so the situation will need to be monitored closely.
  9. That is where I think the Yankees are looking. This season just so happens to be his healthiest season in awhile and he has regained his ace status, but will it last? The Yankees no doubt will reject his option, and will likely offer him a 2 yr deal at around 10 a season. If he walks, he'll be worth 2 draft picks and they can get younger and cheaper with Schmidt. That would still leave them with one rotation spot open assuming they buyout Wright and I think Matsuzacka would fit in right there. Imagine this rotation next yr for NYY. 1. Matsuzacka 2. Schmidt or Mussina 3. Wang 4. Johnson 5. Pavano with Hughes and Clippard in the wings the yankees years of having bad rotations are over. The sox will have to answer.
  10. See, the media is speculating that Matsuzacka will be a battle between Japanese owned Seattle and NYY. I for one know that Theo wouldnt even consider going after him. Why you ask? Because he will cost at least 20 mil in posting cost, which will not be counted against luxury tax, but that is 20 mil up front. Then you will have to negotiate with a 26 yr old ace, which will likely cost in the range of AJ Burnett money, 5yr 55mil. That is 5yrs 75 mil on a pitcher who has never thrown a pitch in the major leagues. He could spend half that and land Schmidt.
  11. See, I disagree. If he put some cut on the ball, it would make his effectiveness vs lefties better and if he tailed a 2 seamer in on righties, he would likewise be more effective. You want to have the slow stuff curve away and the hard stuff jam in to be most effective.
  12. For a good, honest analysis of the sox problems by a red sox fan, look here. This sums things up in a nutshell. Theo is very much to blame for this problem. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5866034
  13. was he hitting pretty? http://i.cnn.net/si/si_online/covers/images/2004/0705_large.jpg
  14. ATTN: Everyone. CANNONBALL http://www.moviepoopshoot.com/renaissance/images/2004/jul5/CannonBall.jpg
  15. The fact is, the red sox now have 1 good pitcher and 4 ???'s and the yankees have 3 good pitchers with 2 serviceable guys finishing out the rotation. If the white sox pitching starts getting going, then the red sox will have tee times in October, cause i think they wont catch the yankees. This weekend will be very telling, and I see a very bleak outlook for the sox with the way they are pitching.
  16. it is important, but situations are important too. Seanez is a great mopup guy, but bring him into a close game and BOOM.
  17. Beckett sucked Seanez sucked Hale sucked Manny was Manny Ortiz sucked Youk was good. Breslow was good.
  18. Talk about 2 guys going in opposite directions. RJ threw two solid outings in a row against 2 playoff caliber teams. Beckett has been downright awful since the AS break. If Johnson gets going, that is one hell of a 3 headed monster to have to face in October.
  19. sorry, just was reactionary. He is really struggling and he is absolutely necessary to this team winning.
  20. Frustrating times in RSN these days when you consider the signature offseason move is blowing up in the sox faces. Not only are Anibal Sanchez and Hanley Ramirez playing well on a regular basis in FLA, but Beckett has just been plain horrible. It has even been more apparent since the AS break. Just some stats for thought here. Beckett pre-AS 11-4 4.75 Beckett post-AS 2-3 5.74ERA 2005 Clement pre-AS- 10-2 3.85ERA 2005 Clement post-AS- 3-4 5.72ERA eerily familiar here. Beckett is wilting when the sox need him the most. edit: reactionary title, didn't mean it.
  21. The Yankees dont beat the angels all that often. They want to make 100% sure they do tonight.
