  1. In innings 1-3, he had an opponents OPS of .991. In innings 4-6, the opponents OPS was actually slightly lower at .949.
  2. Did you learn anything from the Hansen fiasco? Dont rush these kids. He should be in AA. Hansen should be in AAA, for the entire season. Dont ruin them now.
  3. Snyder is a guy you try to hide in AAA and only bring up in emergencies.
  4. I still remember the wild game against the rangers last yr when the yankees were down 9-2, then took a 10-9 lead. Then Proctor gave up a 2 run bomb. Goes to top 9, yanks down 1, 2 outs, runner on 1st, Posada walkoff against Otsuka.
  5. also, feeling disrespected and not trying to sign someone are two different beasts altogether. Pettitte felt disrespected when the yankees didnt make an offer to him while they were getting Sheffield and Kevin Brown. It didnt mean the yankees didnt want him, they ended up offering more money than Houston did. The same thing goes for Damon, except for the money issue. Henry thought that nobody would give Damon more than a 4/40. He knew the yankees were involved somehow. He called Damon's bluff and lost. He was outmanuevered.
  6. The Rangers were going to make the difference between the Manny and ARod contract negligible. Hence, the sox would not be taking on any extra cash to their payroll. Taking on ARod added 16 million to the payroll. Therein lies your difference. The sox were haggling over trying to get the most expensive player in baseball while trying to lessen their payroll. The Yankees increased their payroll substantially with their move.
  7. The Yankees wanted Ortiz, but they had Giambroids and Nick Johnson, so Ortiz chose the sox over NY. I even think the yankees offered more $ but Papi chose opportunity and he made the right choice.
  8. He wanted to keep Damon, George got him. Dont fool yourself into thinking they didnt want him. They held a frickin press conference when they didnt get him. Jose Contreras- hence the coining of the phrase evil empire. They got ARod after he was supposed to be going to Boston, but they balked because of $$. Didnt seem to be a problem for George. Abreu, the yankees got Bobby last yr hence the term "we arent the yankees" coming about and all the yankees gave up was a falling prospect and a 27 yr old lefty specialist.
  9. f***ing time warner doesnt f***ing carry the NFL network!!!
  10. You are right. He's not.
  11. Gom, I sorta feel the same way with the added caveat. As usual, the yankees are built for the regular season, although this season, with the addition of Pettitte, they have the potential to be very strong in the postseason. With the offense, the pen, and the likely high IP potential of this rotation, the yankees should crush the s***** teams and stand tall with the good teams. That will give them likely a 95-100 win regular season. The red sox are going to have more trouble in the regular season. No stability in the pen and a lineup that is still going to have its issues. But they are a team that will contend for the wild card, and if they come into the playoffs with momentum, they will be a team that nobody wants to play.
  12. I am a BIG believer in the traditional setup. Get guys accustomed to roles and see how it flies. The bullpen as is, sucks. Timlin closing, Donnelly as full time set up man, Okajima as the 7th inning guy, Romero as the lefty specialist, Hansack/Gabbard as the long men. That being said, add a shut down closer and the bullpen is okay. Add a shut down closer and another setup man and this bullpen will be good.
  13. excuses? How did the yankees know that someone would bid twice the projected amount for Dice K? Open the bidding, tell Seibu that 51.5mil is what it was going to take and then see if they bite.
  14. bullpen by committee is something that works when you have a slew of solid relievers. Bullpen by committee sucks if you have a bullpen full of sucky relievers. Right now, I'd side with the sucky part right now.
  15. potentially, but we are talking about a closer, all of their sample sizes will be small. The 5 appearances is enough to at least make me wonder.
  16. Otsuka was 1/3 in save opps vs the yankees and allowed 4 runs in 5.2IP in 5 appearances.
  17. but do you think it is in his best interests mentally to start a season off in the majors rather than get him hot in AAA then bring him up mid season, preferably on the road in a place that really doesnt care about baseball (TB of all places).
  18. 1.6 mil for a 6+ era. Man, I wish I could throw lefty.
  19. who will it be then. Looks like the yankees are about to get Gonzalez from PIT for Melky (Gonzo is a big risk but should have a big payoff, btw, hate giving up Melky in this). Cordero is off the shelf. Turnbow? Lidge? Those guys dont really instill any amount of fear.
