  1. Wow, CoC, you are reaching pretty far. Varitek has a gold glove, but as we have said with Jetes, that doesnt mean much. Vtek is no longer a stone wall and he can no longer throw anyone out. He is not even close to the catcher that Posada is on either side of the ball. Cano gets a bad rap because he made some dumbass errors when he came to the bigs. Last yr he was leagues better and should have been considered (but it is right that he didnt win) for a gold glove. Top 12 in F%, top 10 in both ZR and RF. He was very good defensively. And to judge Pedroia, you need a season under his belt. As far as giving Crisp a good rank, I dont agree. Crisp is a converted left fielder who I have seen people post on here previously that he takes terrible routes to flyballs. Even though Damon throws like a 2 yr old girl with MS, he takes very solid routes and is a very good CFer. I'd give them more of a wash. And taking Drew over Abreu because of the arm? Abreu has more range and has a VERY strong arm. The only knock on Abreu has been his inherent lack of diving, something he essentially refuses to do. But with Drew, you dont want him to dive cause he may die. Overall, I dont care if the matchups are in our favor or not. I still think the sox as a whole will be better if the ball is put into play on the ground and the yankees will be better if the ball is put in the air or the catcher needs to make a play. And since grounders are harder to play than flyballs, I give them the edge at this point, especially since our best defender is likely to be sitting half the games (Minky).
  2. THABEET TOP 10??!?!? ROFL, LOLOLOLOLOLOL. I think I could post up on that big softie. He SUCKS.
  3. no, it was truly a good, thought out post and I could read it. No s***.
  4. Proctor never saw the light of day in LA. We got him, developed him in AAA and brought him up. What about Wang and Karstens? Both of them are DL.
  5. once again, a strong s*** deserves an ovation.
  6. they dont have your team chemistry? Arent you guys the team that imploded last yr? Man, if only we can have that chemistry. We only deal away our two cancers and bring back a beloved team leader and our chemistry goes down the shitter. Try again adam, maybe you will make sense one day.
  7. It is a marathon. And I think yesterday shows why we can hang for the long run. Our offense will bail us out a lot just because it is friggin ridiculous. Now if history repeats itself, we are gonna get shillacked tomorrow. But there is something about the team this yr that makes me feel good about it. The two measly old scumbags are out and our only problem is a guy who looked pretty determined yesterday. Also, for the ARod haters out there, ARod did get a hit, steal a base and score the winning run. Then his HR put the game out of reach.
  8. I think the dubbing of Towers as the #5 has essentially eliminated Toronto from top 2. Like it or not, the sox will finish second in the east this yr.
  9. Cano got a whole lot better last yr on defense. He was very solid. Jeter isnt the best defensively, but he is much better than Lugo.
  10. adam. Have you ever seen the ESPNNews commercial where the guy is talking out of his ass? Cause you do that way too often. The red sox are all hired guns. Take a look at their roster and tell me how many guys made it through their system vs NY. Cmon now adam, dont be stupid. Then again, that is like asking s*** to not stink.
  11. If he isnt hurt, then his mechanics are f***ed up something royal. He could be overstriding, or he could be just getting old. Sunday will clear things up.
  12. That homer wasnt a fluff homer though. He is not the guy I'd expect to hit the game winner, but he is the master at putting the game out of reach. Still something necessary. It was a big homer. At the same time, a lot of yankee fans who backed him are upset that he is considering using the option at the end of the yr. If he doesnt take a stance on it (ie decline the option in season) soon, nobody will be on his side.
  13. I agree on the power pitcher part. Thing is, power pitchers who are bullheaded and try to fight through sagging velocity will get massacred as they age. Schilling needs to take a page from Mike Mussina. Mussina was a guy who used to hit mid 90s with nasty location and stuff. He was a finesse/power pitcher who until last yr was going into serious decline. There was a stat about his velocity that when his FB ws over 90mph, his era was in the 2's and when it averaged being under 90mph his ERA was in the 6's. Mussina examined this at the end of 05 and decided, to hell with velocity, he would slow down his offspeed stuff. See, when you start averaging low 90s, your velocity isnt all that important. The thing of biggest importance is the change in velocity from the off speed stuff to the fastball. Jim Kaat always said that when the velocity of your fastball and your offspeed stuff meet, its time to hang em up. Last night, Schilling's FB was anywhere from 87-94mph with the majority of them being 89-91. His splitty was 82-85. He couldnt really locate the curve and the change never came out. That is not a big enough difference. To go along with that, his location was absolutely pisspoort. If his location doesnt come back to some semblance of his previous self, he will be a bad pitcher this yr. If his location returns but he doesnt do anything to change his stuff, he will be a very inconsistent pitcher this yr, a la Mussina in 2004-2005. A guy who will be untouchable when the heat is 92-94 and very hittable when it isnt. I'll tell you what, I enjoyed watching fat Curt get slammed as you guys enjoyed watching ARod buttf*** that popup. But this wasnt one bad start, get em next time. This was an aging power pitcher showing signs of his stuff slipping and an uncharacteristic lack of command in and out of the zone. He has a ton of work to do. EDIT: And Schilling's next start will be on Sunday night baseball in Ranger stadium. We will get to see if he makes necessary adjustment.
  14. tis true, tis true. I am very interested to see what Schilling does in his next start. This start was a travesty, a sham, a mockery, it was a tramashamockery. In all seriousness, though, something looked very off mechanically.
  15. I agree with the offense and bullpen part, but not this part. The sox were #1 all time last yr in fielding %. They did lose 2 solid defenders in AGon and Loretta, but it does show the rest of the team can field. Our team defense isnt as bad as it looked yesterday, but we are middle of the pack anyway. When Phelps or Giambi are at 1b, we are below the middle of the pack.
  16. thing is, if he pulled this s*** against the yankees or the jays or any team with an offensive pulse, he would have been crushed for a lot more than just 5R in 4IP.
  17. the title grabbed me. I love the onion.
  18. BTW, this was Schillings shortest start in 10 yrs.
  19. http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/slight_breeze_shatters_ken hilarious.
  20. you can say that again. Oden being manned up by Horford, Noah and the other big guy and him completely abusing them was classic. Especially since Horford is being considered a lottery pick and Noah a top 10.
  21. didnt see your post. I created a double. Sorry.
