  1. I'd do that every day of the week. A righty power hitter who has 10 homers already for a guy whose OPS is mid .600s? Absolutely. The only reason why the Sox would want to do this is to add a potential power hitter with speed. But Abreu's power is down. Getting Dye could be huge assuming Abreu isnt on his way up (after the last series especially).
  2. torn scar tissue is nothing. All systems go for launch on Saturday.
  3. this is a very deep draft. I was looking at Keith Law's draft and a potential immediate impact relief arm (a la Craig Hansen, lets hope they dont bring him up immediately this time) was slotted to the yankees. That is absurd to have 29 guys ahead of a potential immediate impact arm. And from what I have read, the first 3 rounds of this draft contain first round talent in most other yrs. Having 2 supps will be a huge boon for you guys.
  4. you play with fire if you try to get past the yankees with a s***** pitcher for the third time. Wake has had stretches of utter dominance against the yankees and he is just as likely to dominate again as he was to bomb out. And with Tavarez, if you looked closer, you'd have seen that his starts in NY had more than met the eye. The last start he made, the outs were hit VERY hard. He wasnt fooling anyone. Timely DPs and at-em balls made his line look better than he actually pitched. His first start against us, he really had us by the balls. So we showed improvements our second time through. Would you really want to see what we could have done a third time around against a second tier pitcher in Fenway? Wake's line would have been a blessing. You can only parade him out there so many times before teams catch on. He's a serviceable 5, but you dont want to throw him out there when you dont have to.
  5. his swing hasnt changed one bit. He was swinging balls out as much last night as he was in the beginning of the season. He is just locked in right now.
  6. This was in newsday 2 days ago. His scheduled start is for tomorrow night. Just a quick thing on Kennedy for those who dont know him. Ian Kennedy, 22, was drafted out of USC in last yrs MLB draft with the 21st overall pick by the New York Yankees. Going into his junior season, he was considered a top 10 pick, but showed a lack of velocity and command en route to dropping in projection to a late 1st to early second round selection. At the time, the yankees were said to have selected him too soon on what most experts called a "reach". Well Kennedy has shown his detractors to be wrong. Last season, he signed rather late and only appeared in one game for the SI Yankees. This off-season, he pitched in the Hawaiian winter league where his K rate was very impressive, but his other numbers were lackluster. There were rumors that he might start at Charleston (A ball) but eventually started the yr in Tampa (A+ ball). And boy did he take off there. Armed with a rejuvenated fastball and the stuff that made him such a highly touted player in early 2006, he dominated A+ ball hitters. In 11 games (10 starts), he was 6-1 with a microscopic 1.29ERA in 63IP. He also had a ridiculous 10.2K/9IP rate as well as a 3.5K/BB rate. His WHIP was 0.96 to go along with a BAA of .183.
  7. momentum gets you as far as the next games starting pitcher. We are facing the CWS who are slumping right now, but we have been so wildly inconsistent that a series loss is totally possible.
  8. because Lugo has the most RBIs of any leadoff guy and is 17 for 17 in steals.
  9. its a little different in the majors though. Teams will adjust to him and it will be up to him to adjust back. The last few days, the yankee pitching thought they could sneak the heat by him up. That doesnt work. Time to find a hole and attack it.
  10. What justification for the Lowell play was there? Seriously, that play was absolutely dirty. This is not an ARod is dirty so Lowell is too type thing. This is a normally good guy who made a very dirty play.
  11. Wily Mo looked pretty good out there and got another hit. He's hitting the ball hard right now, so if they feel like giving Drew a little time to heal, they could DL him and potentially see the highly unpopular WMP (in seabeach and the special Ed department's eyes) take off. When he hits the ball, it just carries deep.
  12. Pedroia said earlier in the year (per Jerry Remy) that when he gets hot, he really gets hot. And he is proving it now. Obviously this isnt the total package he will give you all season, but he seems like a very streaky player. Peaks and valleys.
  13. every time we play you guys, it is like a softball game. So taking guys out when you face us or when we face you is not prudent. If Schill or Wake get shelled by the hapless offense of the A's, then maybe.
  14. Roger will undoubtedly help. Anyone who thinks otherwise is thinking out of their hatred for Roger and not in reality. Lets put things into perspective. Mussina has an ERA north of 6 and he is averaging barely over 5IP per start Pettitte has been stellar all season, but vs the sox he has a .315BAA Wang is finally coming into his own. But still can be hit by the sox. If we are going to have any prayer of catching you guys, we need a pitcher who could potentially beat you guys without our offense throwing up 9 runs. Clemens may offer that, who knows. But he will also be able to beat the lesser teams (ie EVERYONE ELSE IN THE BIGS), that I am pretty certain of. He'll win his share and help us in his rotation slot. So long as the rest of the slots do what they are supposed to do, we should be alright. Alright meaning we wont give away games before they start like we are using DeSalvo or Igawa tonight.
  15. hahahahaha btw, Josh Phelps had 2 hits last night. I like not having Minky. Too bad he hurt himself in the way he did, but we never should have signed him if we had known how poor our O would be. He's a luxury that a great hitting team can afford and we arent that anymore.
  16. Last night was a good game in the end, but the sox really only needed to take one game and they got that on Saturday. And as far as Papelbon and the like played, the rain certainly played a factor. Paps was topping out at 93 on his heater and that is much more hittable than the 97mph smoke he usually has, as well as Mo topping out at 91. The rain hampered both, but Mo was able to locate all of his pitches while Paps missed with one. I am happy we won, but at the same time, Pettitte's girly shriek in the 5th really made me think elbow. I know he has some elbow issues, so if we lose him, we dont even have the slimmest of shots that we have with him. The offense finally came out, and if Abreu and Cano continue to hit, this team becomes dangerous again. I hope we can make this a race again, but that is more me being excited over the win than anything. Most likely we'll be talking wild card if anything at all. Even in defeat, your offense battled hard, so I'd expect you guys to continue winning.
  17. not really. The achilles tendon is much more resilient than the ankle ligaments. And there are many ankle ligaments that stabilize the ankle. Most ankle sprains still allow enough stability afterwards to not need surgery to repair the ligamentous injury. In terms of Hughes, his injury and timetable has more to do with his age and status with the organization than with how injured he actually is. If this was an older player, they'd be rehabbing right now and likely would see action in a couple weeks. Hughes, OTOH, is being held up because of his status as the future of the yankees staff and will likely be held back until he is 100%.
  18. it worked for you guys 3 yrs ago didnt it. And it couldnt hurt to try. Well, maybe it could. But it isnt like we are going anywhere this yr anyway. Maybe a brawl unifies the team like it did for your team 3 yrs ago.
