Crunch has been waiting for this...BLOW UP THE YANKEES!

In regards to Kennedy, the MiLB.com guy who is running it has fallen asleep. Kennedy was taken out after 5. His final line was... 5IP 4ER 6H 0BB 6K -
Clippard is interesting. He actually throws decent with his 4 seamer, but he hardly throws it as it is straight as an arrow. His 4 seamer has been anywhere from 90-93. But he lives off that 2 seamer which he throws around 85-89 and has a ton of movement. The change has been on tonight as well in the mid 70s and his curveball has been a strikeout pitch. Clippard has it all working tonight. 6IP 1ER

Finally broke through against Buerhle. 5-1 Yankees lead.

oh, and the reason why Horne is older is because he has already had TJ surgery in college. He lost a yr and a half. -

Horne is a legitimate prospect. Wright is more of a back end of the rotation guy, most likely in the NL, ie not. The reason why you wont blow any smoke is because you dont have any smoke to blow. Gabbard is just like Wright. Pauley is just like Karstens. Aside from random 5th starter depth, I havent advocated either as long term solutions. -

and I take that back. A nice start to his start (retired first 9 in a row), a horrible finish. Get em next time. -
all for naught, 1-0 white sox. The changeup hung.
-
they played the shift, so Jeter was over 2b and ARod was playing in the hole between where the SS and 3b usually play. A ball was hit almost right at Jeter and ARod went for it inexplicably and left 3b uncovered. HUGE pitch from Clippard. His changeup and curve are really on tonight.
-
ARod decided not to cover the base. Another blunder from ARod.

by the way. Kennedy through 5. 5IP 6H 4ER 6K 0BB. 6K in 5 innings is solid and aside from the homer, he has been pretty solid. He is holding his own. -
Clippard looking good through 3. Too bad we cant hit.

This is the list of pitchers in the top 50 of the pinstripes plus list and how they are doing at this very moment, 2 months deep. The number on the left corresponds to their ranking in the top 50 1. Hughes- AAA: 2-1 3.94ERA 16IP 11H 4BB 17K .200BAA 0.94WHIP MLB: 1-1 3.38ERA 10.2IP 7H 4BB 11K .189BAA 1.03WHIP (on DL) 3. Betances- currently in Extended Spring training. Will debut in Staten Island in one week. Reports out of Ex ST have been very solid, but the Yankees have a history of limiting inning for their HS draftees, and this is no exception 5. Clippard- AAA: 3-2 2.72ERA 39.2IP 40H 17BB 41K .268BAA 1.43WHIP MLB: 2-1 4.20ERA 15IP 13H 8BB 10K .228BAA 1.40WHIP 6. Kennedy- A+: 6-1 1.28ERA 63IP 39H 72K 22BB .183BAA 0.97WHIP AA: Starts tonight for Trenton 8. Garcia- currently on the DL after having Tommy John surgery. Has begun rehabbing and throwing off flat ground as he had TJ back in October. Will NOT pitch this season, but will likely start next season in Tampa (A+ ball) 9. Marquez- AA: 7-3 2.62ERA 65.1IP 63H 35K 18BB .251BAA 1.24WHIP 11. Chamberlain- A+: 3-0 2.06ERA 35IP 19H 42K 11BB .161BAA 0.86WHIP 12. Cox- On the DL with elbow surgery (not Tommy John). Could potentially return by the end of the season 13. Melancon- on the DL with Tommy John. Had surgery in October. Rehab is going well, he is throwing off flat ground. Will NOT throw in a game this season. Likely slated for Tampa next season. 16. Reyes- A 0-2 4.65ERA 31IP 25H 33K 21BB .217BAA 1.48WHIP 18. McCallister- Just as with Betances, the Yankees like to limit innings for their HS pitchers. McCallister is pitching in Extended Spring training and will likely report to Staten Island in a week. 19. Beam- AAA 1-2 4.09ERA 22IP 26H 23K 8BB .289BAA 1.55WHIP 20. White- A+ (rehab assignment) 1-0 3.65ERA 12.1IP 13H 11K 2BB .265BAA 1.22WHIP 22. DeSalvo- Need I go here? 23. Horne- AA 5-3 2.67ERA 64IP 60H 75K 16BB .244BAA 1.19WHIP (as a caveat, Horne was rated this low because his performance in his first full pro season was marred by tinkering with his mechanics (hence the 4.5BB/9IP mark). In terms of potential, the writers at pinstripes plus actually picked him to be one of the 2 biggest potential movers up this list this season and he has shown exactly that) 24. Nova- A 3-2 1.45ERA 31IP 21H 16K 8BB (in reference to Horne, Nova was considered the other potential fast mover this pre season and he has shown exactly that. Armed with a mid 90s fastball and impeccable control, look for this 20 yr old to climb the ranks and likely finish the season in Tampa) 25. Castillo- As with McCallister and Betances, Castillo has been living in Extended ST. The 20 yr old needs to show a return to the velocity that got him signed out of the DR to climb the list. 2 yrs ago he was sitting 95-96, last yr he was sitting 90. Reports out of Ex ST say that he has regained some, but not all of that velocity) 26. Karstens- I think you guys know what you did to him! 27. Henn- I think you know this guy too. Potential as a lefty specialist, that is about it 28. Tejeda- A 0-0 3.60ERA 10IP 9H 1BB 5K .243BAA 1.00WHIP 29. Kontos- A+ 0-2 3.12ERA 17.1IP 14H 22K 5BB .215BAA 1.10WHIP (currently on DL) 30. Norton- A 1-3 3.71ERA 26.2IP 28H 32K 8BB .262BAA 1.35WHIP 31. Patterson- AWFUL, expected to be released at the end of the yr The only other notables on this list are Chase Wright, who has excelled in the minors, had an okay and a poor outing in the majors and is now battling in AAA. Jeff Kennard, absolutely dominating AA right now. Is a power armed reliever who may have a future in the Bronx if his control improves. Rolando Japa, who has been in Ex St and is not much of a prospect. Jason Jones- another non-prospect who was 50 out of 50 and likely has no future in the majors. And Daniel McCutchen- suspended for 50 games for violating the substance abuse policy by not getting his prescription Ritalin cleared through the MLB. McCutchen has dominated A+ ball to this point (5-0 2.72ERA 35/9 K/BB rate and a .250BAA) and is certainly rising the lists. Another player who didn’t make the list was David Robertson. He was not expected to sign with the Yankees when they drafted him as a draft eligible sophomore last yr. He signed late and never really made it onto the lists as he should have. In A ball, he currently has a 0.77ERA in 35 relief innings and has struck out an amazing 48 batters in that span. He is due for a callup. Other guys to keep an eye on…. Kevin Whelan- The most active chip in the Sheffield deal, he has a 2.79ERA in 29 relief innings for AA Trenton. His .176 BAA is astounding, as is his 37 K’s in 29 innings, but the 22 walks is something he has to work on. This is only his 3rd yr pitching, so he should get a little better, one would think Ross Ohlendorf- acquired in the RJ trade. Was injured shortly into the season (back injury) and just couldn’t push through. People were wondering what was wrong with him as in just 35 innings this season, he nearly matched his 2006 total in walks. He will likely be back in a few weeks, but the Yankees will be careful with their biggest chip from the RJ deal. Anthony Claggett- acquired in the Sheffield trade. At the time, was the 13th rated Tigers prospect in their system. Has shown good power (24K in 29IP) but he has been entirely too hittable (.291BAA). Humberto Sanchez- On the DL with TJ surgery. Will start out in Scranton next season, most likely as the closer. Steven Jackson- the other guy in the RJ deal. Has been utterly abysmal and at 25-26 yrs old, he is likely running out of time with his new organization. Edwar Ramirez: A reliever who started out in the Angels organization, came over to the Yankees org last yr and dominated. He is 26 right now and was considered to be a non-prospect until he put up this ridiculous line through 2 stops in the yankee system this season (AA and AAA combined) 3-0 0.66ERA 27.1IP 12H 50K 11BB .126BAA 0.84WHIP That is ridiculous, and he might see himself in the Bronx if he keeps this up. Overall, when you look at the pitching in this system, it is loaded and it is either injured or surging. Conclusion: Graduated Hughes and Clippard have reached the bigs, and will likely stay there once Hughes gets healthy that is. DeSalvo has also graduated, into the land of suck. Stock up Kennedy Chamberlain Marquez Horne Nova McCutchen Robertson Whelan Ramirez Kennard Wright Injured Sanchez Cox Melancon Garcia Ohlendorf Kontos White No change Dellin Betances Zach McCallister Francisco Castillo Rolando Japa Ferdin Tejeda They will all have their status re-evaluated after spending time in Staten Island or the GCL. stock down Reyes- cannot find the plate Jackson- getting lambasted Claggett- getting hit pretty hard Patterson- awful Norton- old for the league and not dominating

Horne, Marquez, and Whelan are worth paying attention to. Hey, aside from the 2 B's the pitching in your system is barren. -

In terms of Kennedy being a top 20 prospect, what player are you looking at? Hughes, Lincecum and Bailey are major leaguers now. Kennedy was in the 90s-120s range to begin the season. People were expecting him to be in Charleston. He started out one level higher and DOMINATED. In terms of ace stuff, all he lacks is the fastball. Have you seen the numbers or are you allowing the draft day hype to shade your opinion? Kennedy is starting one level above where he was expected to and he has a 1.29ERA in 63 innings. He's allowed 39 hits for a .183BAA, he's K'd 72 and walked 22. His WHIP is 0.97. That is exceeding expectations by a mile. And that will send him into the top 20. Chamberlain may not be far behind. For reference, Kennedy is leading the FSL in ERA, WHIP, 2nd in K's, and 1st in BAA. -

Hughes is still better than Buchholz is, although Buchholz is approaching his level. Granted, Hughes being 2 yrs younger than Buchholz helps a lot. Bowden does not have Chamberlain's upside but right now he is more consistent and may actually have a little more value. Ellsbury vs Tabata isnt even close. Tabata is 19 and dominating A+ ball. His power is down right now, but he is technically way older than the league he is in. His power potential is through the roof according to many scouts. Ellsbury is essentially a no power, high OBP speed guy who could be very valuable. But he doesnt even sniff the upside of Tabata. -

in your opinion. By the end of the yr, Kennedy very well could be a top 20 player in the entire minor leagues. Tabata already is and is hitting .300 in A+ ball as a 19 yr old. That is two top 20 prospects. You dont typically land that in a deal, although the twins did a few yrs back in the Pierzynski trade. Also, a guy like Horne very well could be a top 100 guy at the end of the yr too, seeing as he is a powerful pitcher who is dominating AA in his second post collegiate yr. To get 2 top 20 players and a top 100 is unheard of in most deals. And what would help them even more is that most likely, Tabata could start in AA/AAA and be ready for Minnesota come 2009. Kennedy and Horne would be options next season. What more could you ask for? The only way the Twins beat that offer is if A: Santana shows he is willing to forgo his FA years and sign an extension with whatever team he is dealt to, and B: if someone goes nuts and offers young major league talent. When thinking of the teams in DIRE pitching need, you dont see them being able to beat that offer. Even when thinking about large market teams who will be in the hunt, you really arent going to find too much in the way of competition for that offer. The sox could offer up Buchholz, but where would their big offensive piece be? Ellsbury isnt the type of prospect Tabata is projected to be. Lars Anderson in A ball? Likely not. And then add in another high level pitching prospect. Alright, I have an offer. Ellsbury, Bowden, and Buchholz for Santana? We could add any number of pitching prospects to be the fourth prospect in the deal (Marquez, Wright, Garcia, etc) that would still trump your move. Our pitching is deep and for this reason, I think we may overwhelm them while keeping what we desperately need to keep. -
I;ve been reading a little on scout.com and there are rumors that Matt Harvey (out of Fitch HS in CT) may be available late in the first round. Apparently his senior yr didnt go as well as some had hoped. Hell, I'd take him. Also, too bad Michael Main will be taken in the mid 1st. He's a HS kid who can throw 99mph. Freakish.

well, the one good thing about this team is that they have loads of talent. Hence, there is really no need for pessimism unless you are 7 games under in June and 12 games out. In April, hope springs eternal. -
I like this Brackman kid. More pitching, pitching pitching.

does anyone know who Greg Peavey is? He seems to be a highly talked about name as the yankees second round pick. I guess he is committed to Oregon State, so he may have signability issues, but is he a top flight talent?
