  1. Love the Manningham pick. Toomer, Burress, Smith and Manningham with Moss vs Tyree at the 5 slot is a nice receiving corps. Considering that Shockey and Boss are still on the team and thunder and lightning in Jacobs and Bradshaw and Manning has his weapons. Considering that the O-line made leaps and bounds and will stay together and I expect this offense to be solid. The D-Line is still money. Osi, Tuck, Cofield, Alford and Robbins should be nice. if Strahan wants to come back, then even better. The LB corps took a hit with Mitchell and Torbor leaving and the secondary, which was awful lost its best player in Wilson. But with the 1st and 2nd round picks, we add some top flight talent at safety and corner, we added Sammy Knight too to add to the depth in the D backfield. I think the biggest determinant of how this team does next yr will be how this defensive backfield plays. Last yr, we got torched in games that the QB didnt get hit. If we can shore up the D backfield, then this D will be nice. If not, then we'll be even more inconsistent and even more reliant on the pass rush.
  2. What a month from a guy who was to be a throw in for Santana. Good D with a stellar arm and now some power. His .500+SLG and 5 homers has exceeded expectations, although prospectus did project that he'd slug over .500 at some point in his career.
  3. I think I am going to bank that quote from you a700. And dont you guys pretty much have 2 rookies in your rotation and a poor pen too (at least for now).
  4. We get better D and arm from Molina, but he is nowhere near Posada's class as a hitter. We may have seen the last of Posada as a catcher.
  5. This is not good. Posada threw twice yesterday and after the second throw, he winced. Today, he was scratched after trying to throw. His last MRI showed a small tear in his subscapularis muscle, which is one of the muscles that makes up the rotator cuff. He is to have another MRI and see Dr. Andrews in Alabama. Regardless, he is being placed on the DL. If he needs surgery, he's done for the yr.
  6. TJ is almost a rite of passage. Thing is, the timing is pretty poor. This would mean out for this yr and a good portion of next season. I have a feeling this will expedite a move to the pen. His FB-slider combo would make a deadly lefty setup man.
  7. I like the Giants picks. Defensive backfield was a dire need and Phillips should be a nice addition. Plus, this kid from USC is supposed to be a pretty good cover corner, so him with Ross and Madison should make a nice 1-2 and nickel coverage package.
  8. Small framed power pitcher now over 30. Remind you of anyone? Plus, last yr he had his second highest career ERA, his lowest K/9, his highest BB/9 and H/9. Put him in the ALE and he'd be a 4+ERA pitcher and declining.
  9. Couple things. I like Girardi more for the confidence he tries to place in his pitchers. He allows his starters to go deeper than Torre ever would. But today was brutal IMO. If he insisted on leaving Joba and Mo out of it until there was a lead, then he should have used the vets in the later innings. Ohlie got torched his last time around and throwing a rookie in a do or die ninth is not a way to ease him back into things. Now, instead of building confidence, his is shot.
  10. Nathan Haynes wins the game. f***ing Nathan Haynes. Timlin is done.
  11. why do you bring in the guy with control problems with the bases loaded?
  12. and he isnt too bad
  13. Derrek Lee's 07 sucked? .317/.400/.513 all well above Youk's numbers. Lee had more homers, doubles, runs etc. You love numbers jayhawk, but this one isnt even close Helton has been better over his whole career and once again had a higher BA, OBP and SLG last yr. Also, Helton is equal to Youkilis in defense. Youk's strength, the walks, well Helton had nearly 50% more. As for Morneau, 65HR and 241 RBIs over 2 yrs is the type of production I expect from a first baseman. Youkilis has him on the walks (not by much) and the average. But Morneau slugs better. Then again, if you count the past 2 yrs (exactly the amt of time Youkilis has been a regular), Morneau is better, much better. You are really going to try to argue Berkman being worse than Youkilis? Really? Mr. Numbers is actually going to try and defend that? Stupidity. Berkman's down yr was better that Youks best yr. Konerko's decline phase last yr was better than Youkilis' season once again. Higher OPS with more power, similar walks, but less hits.
  14. He has been money this yr.

  16. Britton and Albaladejo have been called up. Farnsworth is expected to hit the Dl too.
  17. Pena Teixiera Howard N. Johnson Pujols Berkman Lee Fielder Konerko Morneau Gonzalez Helton M. Cabrera I know you said O and D but I'd rather have these players starting than Youkilis at 1b. Youks D is better than nearly all of them, but as a 1b, I'll take the production. Youkilis true value, IMO, is as a solid backup 3b and even a 2b if need be. If Lowell left and Youkilis was your regular 3b, his value would jump immensely.
  18. Per Peter Abraham, he has disruption of the Lisfranc joint in his foot. It is a separation of the 1st and 2nd metatarsals that requires surgery and typically has a very long recovery.
  19. Youk's worth is directly tied to his ability to play 3b IMO. As a 1b, even as a GG 1b, he isnt even a top 10 player at his position.
  20. Ride the hot hand. If anything, Lugo is upping his trade value.

  22. Chamberlain is a starter. This is how Cashman sees it and it is the right way to think. We've been over this before. In order for Joba to A. be a starter at the end of the yr and B. beat his innings limit, we need to start the transition June 1. Also, having Joba out there now gives us a shot to decipher which pitchers are useful and which are useless. As of right now, the 2 vets (Farns and Hawkins) have allowed 17ER in 19IP. The younger guys like Bruney and Ohlendorf have been very solid. By the time Joba hits the bush leagues to build up his arm, one of the above will step up and do a serviceable job as the 8th inning guy.
  23. edit: sox pen now at 5.43. Without OkiPap- 6.71
