  1. ESPN picked it up
  2. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS
  3. looks like it was BS
  4. he must have a deal in place with SF. Otherwise, this rumor would absolutely kill his market
  5. 4 game period. And i have the regular season to back me up. I see you and Gom have been drinking from the same drugged punch
  6. so lets go with the smallest sample size and then pretend like the point has been made. You my friend, are an idiot
  7. neither will be part of the yankee org this yr it looks like
  8. 28.2IP 24H 6ER 4BB 24K what's that? Those are the numbers he put up in a 12 day span to close out the yr
  9. I have a feeling CC ends up in NY regardless. He's really trying to get LA or LAA to get close to NY's offer. Unfortunate for them, the yankees will just up the offer.
  10. I find that to be crap. Both seasons in which CC sucked in the playoffs were yrs in which he was whipped like he never was before. Think about it. CC has thrown nearly 500IP over the past 2 seasons AND made the playoffs both yrs. Knowing the AL East and our team's management style, CC would likely sit in the 210IP range
  11. Burnett is a lot more stable than Sheets. Sheets starts over the last 4 yrs 22, 17, 24, 31- 23.5 starts per season Burnett over the last 4 yrs 32, 21, 25, 35- 28.3 starts per season 3 of the top 4 start totals are Burnett's above. AND Sheets is currently injured, while Burnett was not. Listen, I happen to think that Sheets will be healthy for the next few seasons, but I have nothing but my gut to back that up, and we know how reliable that has been.
  12. Saying CC isnt very good is flat out wrong. The guy was the balls down the stretch and got the Brewers into the playoffs by going on 3 days rest for a month. And, he is a massive need. Wang can pitch like an ace at times, but he lapses into mediocrity too frequently to be an ace. Joba can throw like an ace, but he hasnt shown the durability. Sheets throws like an ace, but is hurt too frequently. Burnett throws like an ace at time and is a bit more durable than Sheets. CC is the only guy that we can get who throws like an ace and is durable
  13. Kind of a whirlwhind yesterday for Burnett rumors. Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Braves went to 5 yrs with Burnett at 15 mil per. Then it was rumored that the Cards were gonna top that, until that rumor fizzled out. Then we heard that the Sox were in on it too and were right there with the Braves. Last night, it was reported that Burnett and the Braves had an imminent deal. Then it was reported that the yankees swooped in and beat the Braves offer, and right now Burnett is sitting back watching his stock soar. Here's to hoping he comes to NY
  14. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2008/12/08/2008-12-08_yankees_brewin_up_multiyear_offer_for_fr.html The presumption is a 2 yr 30 mil deal. I'd take that to be honest with you. I didnt want the yankees to go postal and offer 5,6, or god no 7 yrs for this guy. But a 2 yr deal is a good idea. Hell, I'd add a vesting option at bigger money for yr 3. Over the last 4 yrs, Sheets has averaged 24 starts a yr and 150IP. If we are more cafeful with him than the brewers were (on pace for 35 starts and 223IP when he went down) we might be able to keep him healthy. That being said, he cannot be the biggest pitching addition of this offseason.
  15. First ballot HOFer no doubt. A lot of the guys who get in, get by solely on god given talent. I know Maddux was given the gift of being able to throw low 90s at his best, but the multiple pitches that he could throw to a pinpoint on command was something special.
  16. Pedroia is a 5 foot nothing, a hundred and nothing player who plays at 100 miles an hour and plays through serious injuries. His game play style will not lend to a long career and any significant dysfunction for him will drop his production more than it would for someone with more physical gifts. It makes sense for a guy like Pedroia to take the money. He's now got a guaranteed fortune that he'll live off for the rest of his life. And if he continues this assault, he'll get paid handsomely when he gets to free agency. Paps, Lester, and Youk OTOH, should not take the big money. Youkilis plays a position that isnt very demanding very well. He's a bigger guy as well and his approach will lend to him being valuable for a long period of time. Also, he's closer to free agency. Papelbon should hit the market because closers are undervalued and he would set records for how much a young closer with lightning stuff gets paid. Lester, OTOH, would be stupid to lock himself in. The sox could come at him with a deal that reflects his career in Boston, while Lester could get a ton of money if he only pitches like the guy who finishes the yr. He showed flashes of being the best lefty in the AL come playoff time. If he continues that, then he's lookin at CC Sabathia kind of coin
  17. Depends on which team is getting the player. A front line starting pitcher who instantly legitimizes your rotation on a team that is the most world renowned and most expensive in the game would probably argue differently. That being said, it is kinda sick that this guy will make more in 3 months work than I will make in my entire career, and I'm a friggin doctor.
  18. AJ shouldnt jump on any offers right now until CC signs. For one, CC's ultimate dollar figure could be a bargaining chip for Burnett and his agent. I know he wont get the same AAV, but when CC signs for a 25 mil AAV, Burnett could make a case that he should make 20. And the team with the biggest coin hasnt made a formal offer yet and hasnt been desperate enough to make their best, most outlandish offer. If CC decides to leave a ton of money on the table, then allocating more coin to Burnett isnt out of the question. It isnt wise, but it isnt out of the question.
  19. Yes you did. I liked Traber in that he had a nasty breaking ball vs lefties, he just couldnt get it over the damn plate. When it was on, he was filthy. When it wasnt, he was getting shelled. If Farrell can get him to throw more strikes, then he'd be a valued addition. Although with Lopez as the LH specialist, it doesnt make a ton of sense.
  20. This got me thinking and the only logical conclusion I could draw was that the yankees have plans on retaining both of them. I know the yankees want to retain Pettitte on a 1 yr deal, but at a lesser AAV, so this made sense. I also know that offering it to Pudge would be a significant gamble, since cutting him prior to the season would have been a rough go with the players union. (In order to nullify an arbitration deal, you must show cause, ie there must be better in house options and this does not happen very often). But not offering Abreu arbitration is a head scratcher. Everyone knows he wants to stay a yankee and everyone knows he wants a 3 yr deal. Unless the yankees plan on retaining Abreu for 2-3 yrs at a lesser AAV, this move makes no sense. Makes me think something is in the works. If it isnt, then this is a poor move. Regardless, no matter who we sign, we still will have a first and second rounder as comp from last yr. But not having the luxury of having 2 more picks in those rounds baffles me. There has to be something up their sleeve
  21. I didnt think the sox were gonna go the arb route on tek. He can now come back with the potential for a raise. Arb is based on the last 2 yrs and his 2007 wasnt too bad. Boras can also go into it saying he's the anchor and captain for a team that won a WS and was 2 runs away from playing in another within the past 2 seasons. I have a feeling Tek accepts
  22. it doesnt make sense, unless we are significantly cash strapped due to the expenses of the new stadium.
