  1. ? He has an agent and he's a part of the player's association. He'd be negotiating with the second richest team in baseball. He'll be 30 and he'll either want the opportunity to get back into FA early on or be locked up for a long time. I see now way that Bay signs a deal shorter than 6 yrs. And with the way the market is going, if Bay hits the open market, he could get 18 mil a yr next yr or more
  2. yes, IMO. Its a difference of a #5 and a #2. And you typically double salary when you go that far up in the rotation
  3. value rises and falls all the time. If you commit to developing talent you need to ride with the player through the highs and the lows. Only bandwagoners will drop you when you fail initially. How's the wagon these days? Cashman made a decision. Either deal away 4 prospects, 2 of whom were slated to be big contributors to the 08 team for an ace, 28 yr old left handed pitcher. Instead, he chose to wait a yr and sign an ace, 28 yr old left handed pitcher while keeping those prospects. The best prospect used to get Swisher would have gone to Minnesota (Marquez). So in essence, by him waiting, we got Swisher and CC while keeping Hughes. Plus, anyone who watched this team last yr could tell that it was too hurt to make it. The offense was absolutely horrible without a functional Matsui or Posada. And the downgrade from Posada to Molina offensively may have been the biggest blow. We cannot afford a redux of that problem. Hopefully we dont need to with Cervelli on the 40 man in case Posada cannot catch. Quite possibly the single most retarded statement ever made on talksox. It is the GMs job to build depth. But it is ridiculous to say it is all his fault. So name any other team, including the sox, who could lose 2 all star offensive talents and their ace for the last half of the season and make the playoffs. We nearly did. Johan would have been an upgrade. I dont disagree there. But I think that with our offensive woes due to injuries would have left us out of the playoffs with or without Johan I think Holliday is in the perfect situation for us. He goes from the ultimate hitters park to a good pitchers park. If he hits well, then we should throw gobs of money at him. He fits the MO. Top 10 player in the game, and young. And what I am trying to say is that he didnt have much else to turn to. He either gave up on the farm system altogether to get Johan or tried to prove to the masses that the kids were ready. He did make a mistake. But you are blowing his mistake way out of proportion here. If Posada, Matsui and Wang put up full seasons, then this team rolls to the playoffs I did not disagree with you, but when you try to say that a guy is terrible while in the same breath saying that he did everything you wanted, do you kinda think you might be making fun of yourself in a roundabout way? And if so, how could you bash him when he followed your wishes to a T? I think the plan all along was to get to this offseason. The pitching and offense this offseason is just absurd. Power pitching, power hitting, impact young talents, impact older consistent talents, young guys worth a chance, injured guys worth a chance. This offseason has been considered the best in a decade and it didnt disappoint. Now that it is here, I cannot disagree with the plan, if it was to get the players we signed while building with youth. I think I have already covered this. You just continue to babble on. Figures. quote]I don't believe in the hype that you readily buy into. Let me give you an example. Here's a scouts report on the AFL for the Yankees, from Rotoworld. On Phil Hughes: So he had average stats pitching against the worst teams in the AFL, and is not the fireballer or ace he was touted. A #3 pitcher for most teams would be lucky to crack the top five in New York. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't even achieve that status. If he doesn't come with that 95 MPH fastball that he was advertised with and is more like 90-92, he's going to be best remembered as the guy who wasn't traded for Santana...forever. Hughes was hitting 94 in his final start in the AFL. I do agree that his FB has lost some velocity, but he also picked up a cutter and 2 seamer out in the AFL, so he might not be throwing his 4 seamer all that much while trying to get some run on his pitches. Sadly you dont understand player development. Actually, you dont understand much. Not surprised. Jackson is an elite talent. He has all the tools. He's developed plate discipline. He has power, speed, quickness, everything you could want. One thing he is, is streaky. And he proved that ever since he caught fire 2 yrs ago. His struggles in the AFL dont surprise me. He's not a fast starter. Once again, you dont have any idea who these players are. Miranda has better discipline and more opposite field power. He's a much more polished hitter than Duncan ever will be. That being said, he's an absolute butcher at 1b, but should carve out a nice career in the 1b/dh role. I would not be surprised to see him get 200AB or so in the bigs this yr 95mph fastball with a plus curve out of the pen. Not much, nah. Not at all. Especially since you are judging a yr after TJ surgery. Dumbass You use the caveat of one scout's assessment then you use it to make a bash on Cashman. You are hopeless and biased. It bought him time, I agree. But I also think he was looking toward this time to see some ill offered contracts expire to get new, younger blood into the organization. If our farm system didnt deliver immediately, which hardly any farms do, then we were gonna make the splash in the market. And we did. He's a rookie, he is obviously a question mark. Why do you think we are locking up the rotation with studs and leaving the 5 slot to him? So we can baby him into reaching his IP limit. And yes, he's immature and he has the potential to be injury prone. Attacking a rookie for being young and possibly injury prone is stupid since you can do it to any rookie coming through the ranks. If you are going for the president, you might want to go after Randy Levine, since he's the yankees president. You are backwards. First you say that Cashman is an idiot and should be fired. Then you say that he is unoriginal and trying to follow Stick Michael's blueprint, which you agreed with. Which is it? I agree that he is unoriginal and is following Stick Michael's blueprint. THIS IS WHY I LIKE HIM. This is why every yankee fan should like him. He's convinced management to put money into the farm system. Without his convincing, guys like Joba and Hughes dont get into our system. You apparently dont understand the change in how the yankees attack the draft. How would you, you are a dope who doesnt listen or understand a thing. The Yankees, in the early 2000s were one of the cheapest organizations in baseball in terms of the draft. Ever since 2004, we have been one of the top 10 spenders in the draft. That is the Michael's philosophy. Cashman is copying it. Is it that bad that he isnt original? Regardless. This rant is no different from the baseline. Biased. Ridulous. Downright incorrect in spots. And as usual, useless. Maybe you can try and educate yourself a bit. But I know better. You cannot be educated. Your brother took all the smarts, left you with nothing but half a brain, 10 fingers and a computer. Dumbass.
  4. No, I had to go to work. You know, the place where smart people go to make good money making informed, educated decisions. I'll destroy your post in a few seconds. Bear with me
  5. THe NY Post is really pushing this one with their article this morning, saying that Perez would fit in with the yankees plans of getting younger and more powerful. I guess they would. But Perez also doesnt fit into our plans in terms of a pitcher who could be absolutely lights out or be in the showers by inning #2. I dunno. Any other yankee fans on here agree with this possibility here? I kinda dont. 1. We need a guy who is durable for that #4 spot. Perez has been for the past 2 yrs, but wasnt in his days in Pitt. So, doesnt really fit with the hope of adding another 200IP pitcher to our rotation. 2. We need a guy who is consistent in the #4 spot. The back end of the rotation is not somewhere that you stash an ace. You want to get a good QS% out of them though. And Perez isnt that at all. He's a guy who has an equal chance of throwing a 2 hit shutout as he does of walking 8 and giving up 7 runs. 3. Do we want to add a potential meltdown at big money? He is a Boras client. He could be ridiculously good and at his age, he could be here a long time. But he also could totally melt down. He does seem to get up for big games and has handled the yankees to the tune of 5-1 in his tenure with the Mets. But he's gonna get 4-5 yrs at 12-15 mil a yr. Do we make that kind of committment to a guy who could totally flame out? I dunno. Not sold. Think he could be an awesome addition if things go his way. But the possibility of meltdown scares me at the yrs and money he will be asking for.
  6. Bard is the kind of guy who is dominant but making a slow improvement into becoming a potential major leaguer. He can blow away the minor league guys on stuff alone. But if he comes up to the bigs without fine tuning his location, he wont last. I agree with your sentiment Dojji. He's always one pitch away from a mental meltdown and losing the zone. Baby steps with guys like him.
  7. I see. You are talking about his value as it pertains to his salary. I dont think that way. I think of value as it pertains to his position and his performance.
  8. These stats dont tell the whole story though. Dunn is clearly the better offensive player. If you take OBP and SLG over the last 5 yrs, it isnt even close. Dunn sits in the .380 range in terms of OBP and Ibanez sits in the .350 range. Dunn sits in the .530 range in terms of SLG, Ibanez sits in the .470 range. If you take into account that Ibanez isnt a great OFer and that he's 7 yrs older than Dunn, then I dont see how one could make an argument that Dunn isnt significantly more valuable than Ibanez.
  9. his potential is Damon at his peak, although I do not see any chance of him hitting 15 homers. Ever. And Damon at his peak was a guy I would deal if the right trade came along. Certainly not a guy you label untradeable.
  10. Warner looks like an all star, James looks inspired and that D looks tough. All of a sudden, the Cards look good. That being said, I think Zona is playing the game of their lives right now and likely wont sustain it next week either in NY or Carolina
  11. I dont get everyone's love affair with Ellsbury. His potential is a high OBP speedster. Thats a nice piece to have. But he will never be a big power guy, so it isnt like he's a 5 tool player. We have a guy similar to him in offensive talent. And I wouldnt call him untouchable.
  12. I dont think they are fielding offers right now BSN. I think the midseason mark will be when they decide to go for it or to bite the bullet and blow it all up. If the DBags are in the race for the west, then there is no harm in breaking out the dynamite next offseason.
  13. I think the question is, can they afford to back off the workload a bit? If Penny's shoulder acts up or is completely ineffective, then the sox will turn to Buchholz, a guy who workload they'd need to curb to begin with. And if other guys go down in the rotation, they may not be able to afford to take Lester's IP down to the 190 mark or so, which is probably where they'd want to take it after such a long and trying season. Especially since the sox are considered a playoff contended and Lester may be in line for 30-40IP of postseason ball
  14. If Bard gets hit s*** straight, he is more of a closer type than Masterson IMO. I think Masterson's durability and stuff will eventually slot in best as a Scot Shields type. Can start if needed. Can go 3 innings in a game if needed. Or can setup if needed.
  15. I think this was more the case than the sox REALLY REALLY liking him in the pen. As a matter of fact, he wasnt that solid when needed in the playoffs or down the stretch. Once teams get accustomed to his delivery, he is gonna have some issues. And moving him to the pen is a way to minimize those issues. For one, he has a nice, sinking 2 seamer that he uses as his primary FB. He ranges it from 87-94mph and gets good bite depending on how hard he throws it. His slider is a nice pitch as well. 2 pitches I would call plus. And for a rook, I'd consider his command to be pretty good. That being said, his sinker slider combo works very, very well vs righties. But when you eliminate the fear of the slider from the hitter, then he becomes very hittable, and Masterson knows this. Hence, lefties are and will always be a problem until he develops that change. He likely wont get much chance to develop the change in the pen. But if he is used in relief, in the right situations, he wont be hurt and he should be dominant. I just dont think he'd be the right choice to put into the 7th with Tex at the dish.
  16. Haren was signed through 2012.
  17. You missed the boat, again. Tex's deal from Texas to Atlanta was massive. The Rangers got a massive amount of talent. Here's the breakdown Atlanta got: Mark Teixeira Ron Mahay Texas got: Jarrod Saltalamaccia Elvis Andrus Matt Harrison Neftali Perez Beau Jones Matt Harrison and Perez were two top pitching prospects and are absolute gold for the Rangers. Harrison is 22 and is already in bigs. Perez is 21 and throws absolute smoke, dominated AA and should make a MLB debut this yr. Elvis Andrus is 20 yrs old now and was a top 10 prospect for the Braves. He dominated AA (.300AVG 53 steals) and is pushing Michael Young potentially out of the position or out of town. Salty is a big time bat, who I think will end up as a solid 1b in the bigs. Beau Jones is 22, is a dominant reliever and also should make his MLB debut in 2009. They traded 4 top 10 prospects and a solid relief prospect for Tex and Mahay. And all 5 are expected to be in the bigs within 2 yrs of the deal. And all they got back was 2 picks for Mahay and Casey Kotchmann. So picking this deal as one of the non-boatload deals was absolutely wrong. And thinking that a Berkman deal or a deal for a player of a similar caliber will be any different is just as misguided
  18. My post was solely about stuff. In terms of his control, AJ's is world's better.
  19. you dont get Berkman without giving up Buchholz, Ellsbury, Masterson or Bowden. Period
  20. I am not backing off the argument.
