  1. and I would have a difficult time arguing that.
  2. dont go playing the victim here dojji. Its all in good fun
  3. Voice of reason. I watched Penny a lot in 07 and thought his stuff was fantastic. But his results werent. He gets hit far too well for a guy with his stuff. Is it a lack of control in the zone? Is it fatigue? Who knows.
  4. JimEd, you sir, are a moron. Stuff is different from control. Stuff is velocity and movement. Control is how well you locate your stuff. Saying that you consider stuff to be stuff + control should make you think that maybe you are missing out on the whole point. But that sounds like we'd be reinventing the wheel. Yep, Jim Ed, missing a point. Never thought I'd see that one comin. Just sayin.
  5. Sometimes twisting words around is fun. Kinda like the game of telephone when we were kids in elementary school. Mix in a swear here, some lewd saying there and you go from Tyrannasaurus Rex to Bitch lets have sex. All in good fun. That being said, he started out comparing Kottaras to Napoli, then backed off of it. Just wanted to hammer the point home that he is talking about 2 completely different players and making any inference about the two being linked in any way was a farce.
  6. Judging by the majority of your posts, if anyone has any extra money they should send it to the sox pronto as well as all leftover jewelry and unused cars. Cause with just a little bit more money, the sox could have gotten their #1 priority. But those bad, bad yankees with their willingness to put the fans money back into the team swooped in with their big money machine and took him from the sox!! Big money spending yankees!!!
  7. A. Schill didnt have the surgery B. Posada isnt a pitcher Posada just needs to be able to get the ball to second base with similar velocity. If it is down 5mph, so be it. As a pitcher, being down 5mph is death.
  8. SO let me get this straight. The 26 yr old catcher with a career MiLB OPS of .738 who didnt have a good offensive minor league yr until he was 26 in AAA should beat out Kottaras and Bard? Really? And in terms of Kottaras being a poor man's Napoli. Tons of holes in that. Napoli hit 60HRs in his 22 yr old and 23 yr old seasons combined with an OPS north of .900. Kottaras breaks double digits for the first time in his career in AAA as a 25 yr old while putting up an OPS of .804 and he should maybe be similar to Napoli? Cmon now, that isnt a very good comparison at all. Kottaras reminds me a little bit of another Angel catcher. More like a poor man's Jeff Mathis.
  9. so the twins, a team that has no chance of signing long term deals with either Bay or Mauer, will take an older OFer with 1 less yr of contract control in exchange for a young catcher with 1 more yr of control. Really?
  10. problem #1 If you revert to problem #1 and understand the context of the argument, then you would likely understand the nature of the post Again, refer to problem #1. Another example of "what I want to read-itis". You and JimEd should buy some lube for the next flare. Cause this one was sure to run you ragged.
  11. I still think he will hit. He has been like clockwork, works walks, hits 20 homers, has a slew of doubles, etc. It is a real concern if he cannot throw. But reports out of tampa are suggesting that he is making a ton of strides with the arm. We'll see.
  12. McCann is SO much better that his career OPS is 2 points above Jorge's. MASSIVE DIFFERENCE. And McCann is so outrageously, balls out better offensive player that his UNBELIEVABLE rookie campaign which he hasnt duplicated was worse than Jorge's 2007 (which he hasnt duplicated either, but it was his last healthy season). And Mauer is such an unstoppable offensive force that his career OPS is 1 point below Jorge's. HE'S GOD! WOW, What a difference!!! If you were able to read (sadly, a quarter of RSN suffers from "what I want to read-itis", such a sad, sad disease that ultimately leads to loneliness and incessant masturbation, how raw are you JimEd) you would see that my post included the caveat that they were similar in terms of offensive talent. McCann and Mauer are much better defensive players. Sadly, you couldnt fully understand and digest the post, hence you made a fool out of yourself. Do yourself a favor son. Buy some vaseline, it might help the next time your disease flares.
  13. I am watching this LSU-GT game and I am really impressed with LSU's true freshman QB. He's gonna be a good one. Good speed, good arm and a really good awareness of the pocket.
  14. With the yankees seemingly out of the Lowe sweeps and with the fact that the sox have not even made an offer, the time may be ripe for someone to scoop up the second most durable pitcher on the market. Lowe hasnt missed a start since he was converted to a starter. He's a lock to throw 190-220 innings. And he has shown maturation as a starter in LA. And if a guy like AJ can get 18 mil a yr, Lowe should at least be worth 15 mil a yr. That being said, if the yankees or the sox nab Lowe, that could shift the balance of power even further. You put a guy like Lowe into either team's 4 hole and you immediately improve the depth, consistency and performance of the rotation. We shall see who he ends up with, but I wouldnt be surprised if one of our teams gets into the running
  15. without him we dont get abreu
  16. Martin's offensive prowess gets overblown. He's had an OPS over .800 once in his career. And I forgot about McCann. He's a top tier offensive talent too. But thats about it
  17. http://www.rootzoo.com/threads/view/MLB-Baseball/Washington-Nationals/Nationals-offer-Teixeira-8-years-and-180-million_204371 Rotoworld had it as well.
  18. Washington offered even money according to the latest reports.
  19. I dont think that gets it done. A lot of time, deals are made depending on the need. Right now, the catching position in baseball is at an all time low in terms of offensive potential. Right now, Mauer and Posada are 1-2 in terms of offensive talent and Posada has been doing it for a decade. Gone are the Piazza's, the Pudge's, the Varitek's in their primes. And coming in are a bunch of defense first hackers who cannot hit. A lot of teams nowadays are moving their top notch offensive talent off the catching position so they can prolong their careers and their ability to hit. That being said, Mauer is the cream of the crop. Actually he is the only one of the crop that is still young. And you can make a case that he might be the most valuable player in all of baseball when you consider his offensive production, his age and his defensive production at a prime defensive position. I dont think the Twins will find a match right now. But if they do, I expect them to nab a top pitcher AND a top notch offensive talent, both at the AAA level. Buchholz stock has dropped far enough that I dont think he alone without another big prospect wont get it done IMO
  20. Lots of talk about Mauer moving off the position in the short term. He's a perennial batting title contender and has a career OBP of .399. His power is low, but that OBP would be very valuable the longer he keeps it up.
  21. I wonder why he would say he preferred the east coast? Hmm. Any teams out there that might have a lot of money and be willing to get into a bidding war? Hmmmmm. And he wanted to go to NY SOOOOO MUCH that it only took 10 million dollars MORE than what the sox offered for him to commit. That idea holds NO water and is just media spin to avoid a fanbase backlash on the favorite son, Theo
  22. You mean the guy with 1.51 and 1.49WHIPs in the minors over the past 2 yrs? MLB ready my ass. Maybe as a long reliever or when Kei Igawa isnt available. Exposito did nothing prior to this yr, and all of his progress was made below AA. He is not a top prospect right now and doesnt have a ton of worth. If he repeats his power in AA, then he will rise. And Lowell, we all know about. Overpaid, aged 3b with declining skills coming off major surgery to his hip joint. So essentially 2 C level prospects and an old, injured, declining 3b for Berkman. Keep em up. They're hilarious
  23. If you think that that is realistic then you dont know baseball. Berkman and Teixeira are VERY similar, actually Berkman has had some more productive yrs in the past. The only difference is 4 yrs in age. The idea that you would get a switch hitting, 32 yr old, perennial MVP candidate for what amounts to the sox C level prospects and a 35 yr old who may not be a factor anymore is laughable. Outright laughable
