  1. now, the pertinent question is, can Penny get through the next 3 innings without giving the lead back. Right now, he looks terrible.
  2. some of these pitches look really f***ing good.
  3. i didnt know he had regressed this much. Reyes used to have a good arm. Now, he throws nothing up there
  4. back when he was throwing 94-95mph
  5. the ball coming out of his hand looks like its gonna be fast on the TV, then it just...takes....forever reaching the plate. This guy is f***ing terrible
  6. when are they going to pull the juggs machine. He's throwing BP up there
  7. Mike Lowell giveth, Mike Lowell taketh away
  8. this ump is awful
  9. Hughes continues to get squeezed.
  10. open base vs the hottest hitter in the AL and you dont walk him. Wow.
  11. Reyes used to have a very solid fastball. I remember he blew out his arm a few yrs back and just hasnt been the same.
  12. Hughes looks good today. 94mph heat, hitting the corners with a new cutter to lefties that actually keeps them off the plate
  13. 2008 8th round pick, Dan Brewer has started out hot, hitting .400 since the start of the yr with a .488OBP. Garrison Lassiter continues to pace the offense, even though he is one of the youngest players in the league at 19. He's hitting .346 with limited power at this point. After horrible starts for both, 2007 HS draftees, Taylor Grote and Chase Weems have been hot lately. Grote hitting .291 with 2 homers. Weems hitting .286 with a .342OBP. David Adams, the yankees 3rd rounder from a yr ago has rebounded nicely as well. He's hitting .282 with a .817OPS. 2 guys who started well this yr have fallen off the map. Carmen Angelini and Abraham Almonte, arguably the most talented position players on this team have really struggled. Almonte's BA is .259 with a sub .700OPS and Angelini is hitting .229 with a sub .600OPS and 13 errors. On to the pitchers. Brackman has been hit or miss. 2 solid starts sandwiched between two poor ones. 1 yr removed from TJ, and I guess that should be expected. The 20K to 8BB is pretty nice to see out of the big man in the early going. DJ Mitchell has been dominant. 3-0, 24IP 19H 6ER 1BB 28K. That is not a typo. He has a 28:1 K/BB ratio. And his GO/AO ratio is 1.93 to boot. He'll be out of Charleston soon. He isnt even being challenged Manny Banuelos and Brett Marshall, the two youngest starters on this team, have had hit and miss starts to the season. Banuelos had one bad start where he allowed 11 baserunners in 3.2IP, but he was good in the other three (14IP 12H 4ER 4BB 14K). Marshall, for a power pitcher, he isnt striking anyone out. He also has been getting hit at a good clip. WHIP of 1.4 isnt too bad, but he needs to start missing bats. Then there's Pat Venditte. The quirky switch pitcher who everyone wrote off. Well, he's started off solidly. 7.1IP 4H 0ER 0BB 14K. Overall since being drafted, he's allowed 3ER in 40IP. Not bad for a guy with apparently no stuff from either side.
  14. Montero continues to mash. .371/.421/.614 through 18 games. He has 4 homers and 5 doubles to boot. He cannot stay in A+ ball too long. He is just absolutely dominating. Wilkins de la Rosa has now had 2 starts after his return from the DL without allowing a run. Totalling 9IP 4H 0ER 3BB 10K. Jeremy Bleich has been very impressive. 2-0 1.66ERA 1.11WHIP with a near 3:1 ratio of K's to BB. Dellin Betances has continued his improvement in control. But he has one awful start that really skews the stats. Overall, 21.1IP 22H 10ER 10BB 25K. The one thing that is kinda interesting is that he is a bit more hittable as seen above. We'll see which way he goes. Jairo Heredia is still on the DL. Romine started off in a massive slump, but has improved of late, hitting .371 over the last 10 games Laird and Sublett have started out very slowly.
  15. the sox have never faced Reyes, you know what that means
  16. due to 3 blowouts. When you give up 22, 16, and 18 runs in 3 games out of 19, then your ERA is gonna balloon. And 2 of those were starts by CMW. ANd on the topic of pitching, CC had a very, very strong game vs a solid offense last night. He was 4 inches either way on two well placed balls away from winning the game.
  17. 4ER in 8IP is not ideal. But the way he pitched, allowing only 6 runners to reach base in 8 innings, no walks, 7 K's, thats pretty solid and should be a nice hint of what is to come. His next start is in May, and he typically starts cruising in early May.
  18. this is yr 4 for Paps, right? So after 2011, he'll be a FA. The way he's looked lately, though, he may want to renegotiate about a contract extension now. Cause he looks terrible
  19. Those who do not appreciate Wake's value to the sox, do not know red sox baseball. Hell, even baseball in general. He's a back end of the rotation guy capable of giving you 180IP+ a yr like clockwork and will fight the effects of aging. The only thing that should keep you on the edge of your seat is if his labrum holds together enough to throw that 69mph meatball 80-100 times every 5 days
  20. did you watch any of the game? Any of it? Did you look at the rest of the line? Nah, probably not. Just take one stat and run with it. Common practice from you, we know. I should expect it.
  21. You typically see both a decline in velocity and a decline in control. If CC was "breaking down" then I highly doubt you see 96mph heat. Highly doubt it. And regardless, today showed you that CC is turning the corner. He was on point tonight. Too bad the homerball was about 3 inches out of Swisher's reach and hit the top of the wall and too bad our SS has no range to snag what should have been the final out of the inning in the first
  22. CC Sabathia was dominant today. Too bad a couple balls were 3-4 inches out of reach or else this is a win. 8IP 6H 4ER 0BB 7K. Thats a dominant performance. Anytime a pitcher puts up a 0.75WHIP, he does hit job. What I cannot wait for, is when ARod comes back. I know, I know, we need to be concerned with his hip, and I agree there. Not sure which ARod will come back. But regardless of which ARod returns, it has to be better than what we have right now. Lets look at some repercussions of ARod's absence. First of all, the hole in the lineup. Ransom, Berroa and Pena have combined for... 14/73 1 doubles, 5 walks and 18Ks. Thats a .191/.243/.205 line. Thats a .448OPS. Wow. Second, we are missing his production. Even if he doesnt come back the .950-1.050OPS player he was, lets say he hits to a .900OPS, he is such a significant upgrade over what we have in that hole, it isnt even funny. Third, we miss his presence in the middle of that order. Tex has walked 13 times in 16 games. Plot that out over 150 games, and he'd walk over 120 times. That would be a full 23+ walks more than his career high. You add in ARod, subtract out he pukes we have in there and then factor in his lineup presence and this lineup all of a sudden gets a serious jolt.
  23. lata Lowell. Hey, is that all you need to do to get your pitcher to throw a sick deuce? Hey Girardi, get tossed RIGHT NOW
