  1. Johnny Damon has f***ed us 2 games in a row after being solid for 10 games
  2. Melky missed the cut. f***!
  3. are you f***ing kidding me?
  4. Aside from his first few appearances, Phil Coke has been absolute gold.
  5. I agree. I dont think Veras is done. But something is amiss. He just cannot come close to the plate. You cannot use that guy to start an inning against hitters who are gonna be looking to take first.
  6. The idea of Veras in this inning was f***ing atrocious
  7. Veras? Really? Are you f***ing kidding me?
  8. Joba finished at 109 pitches. Solid line. 6IP 3H 2ER 4BB 6K Coke and Albaladejo will likely be relied upon over the next 2 innings. We better get some runs.
  9. I think it could help him heal quicker, something that he may not have fully done. I dont think he's doing it, but if he did, I bet it would help
  10. 5 innings, 6 baserunners, 6K. Not bad. His PC is at 87, so he'll be gone after 6. Gotta hope the pen can hold it.
  11. Joba is throwing hard today.
  12. The interesting thing is he has become more of a K pitcher, but he has gotten a lot more hittable.
  13. from the sounds of it, Wang is expected to start today in AAA, and if all goes well, they might move around the schedule to fit him into the rotation. That would mean one more start for Hughes vs Guthrie at home and then likely Wang would slot in after him and the rest would be pushed back a day. If Wang comes back strong, then this team is gonna be very, very good.
  14. The sox got to where they are right now based upon one of the easiest starting schedules in all of baseball (they were ranked 3rd to this point). That is helped by the fact that they saw the angels 6 times and missed Lackey and only saw Santana once. They were able to just mash their way through the league and protect any late leads they had. That wont be the case for long. The Yankees are getting their s*** together. The Jays wont be rollovers this yr, although I dont think they factor into anything. And the Rays are the Rays. They cannot continue to get 6 innings or less and 4 runs or more out of their SPs. It will come back to bite them, and it will contribute to pen fatigue. And as we all know, their pen is their best part of the staff thus far. What they are doing and thriving on is not sustainable. Not too many teams live by offense and pen. They are gonna need some contribution from their rotation if they are going anywhere this yr.
  15. The question with Kalish was always, would his power develop. The 5 homers in the first month and a half is encouraging from the sox standpoint.
  16. Watched Hughes throw tonight. His stuff can be so good at times, but he needs a yr in the minors. He was throwing 94 mph 2 seamers with a lot of run tonight. But he really couldnt control it. Morneau got one of the 2 seamers that ran into the middle of the plate. He also got behind in a good amount of counts with it. And once again, his curveball was hit or miss. The fact of the matter is, they tinkered with his stuff, got him 3 minor league starts and now are getting an inconsistent rookie out there. Its expected, but its obvious that he isnt ready yet. Gardner was a breath of fresh air out there and seems to be turning a corner since Melky won the CF job. If he continues to be able to drive the ball (like his triple, not the homer) then he will become a lot more effective. But his speed is game changing. Anything that the OFer doesnt get to right away is a 3 base hit at minimum. His OBP is now up to .330 and his OPS is up to .752. So he is really starting to be a useful and dynamic player for us. Melky is continuing his hot april into may, something he did not do last yr. He looks like a different hitter up there. Maybe the yankees benching, his loss of an OF slot and the trade rumors refocused him. Good game in the end. I thought the pen did a good job delivering 4 innings of 1 run ball and gave us a shot to win it. We now have Joba, Burnett and Pettitte to round out the series against their inconsistent young kids. This was the game we shouldnt have won. The next 3, we should. It should be fun. But this was the kind of game that really sparks a good long winning streak.
  17. I was impressed with last night's victory. Prior to the game, I thought we'd just smash this retread SP and get a good pitching performance from Sabathia to take it. Well, it didnt turn out that way. We got just enough off Tallet and Matsui got just enough on the ball from Carlson (pride of Berlin, CT). But regardless, after getting embarassed in our house, losing 5 straight, things are starting to look up. Starting with the offense. NY is 8th in the bigs in runs scored, 8th in OBP, 2nd in SLG, and 4th in OPS. Well, ladi da right? Well, not exactly. Coming into this yr, there was significant concern over Swisher, Matsui, Cano, Melky and Posada returning to form. Well, all of them have to this point. Posada's OPS is .987, Swisher's is .949, Cabrera's is .911, Cano's is .848, and Matsui's is .822. Now, I dont expect them all to stay that high. But the fact that we are hitting so well without much contribution from Teixeira (.757) or ARod (.566) is telling. If we can keep some semblance of the production above when Tex and ARod start hitting like they know how, this team will be an offensive juggernaut. Second, the starters have started to hit their stride, sans Hughes. I feel bad for Phil. He comes out, dominates, sets an expectation, then lays 2 eggs out there in a row. He is not ready yet, IMO and hopefully he just doesnt get killed out there tonight. Other than him, Pettitte, Burnett, CC, and Joba have all gone 6+ in their last start and over the last 5 starts from this quartet, they have gone 35.2IP. Thats impressive. If CC, Pettitte, and Burnett continue to spin 6-7+IP performances, this team will be in great shape. And with Wang rounding back into form and set for arrival in 6 days, this rotation is ready to give length. Third, our bullpen is starting to round into a semblance of form, sort of. Mo is back to being Mo. Phil Coke has stepped in as the setup man. Aceves has stepped in as the long man. And Bruney has been throwing without pain. Thats about it. Alby, Edwar, Veras and Co. seem to continue to have trouble. If Marte and Bruney come back healthy, this bullpen has a chance to be solid. If not, then we'll need the starters to continue to give length, so the ball can be handed right to Coke or Mo. And right now, they have thrown 7.1IP of scoreless relief over the last 4 games, so maybe a semblance of hope is coming.
  18. Hank is a figurehead. He's the loudmouth who has no power whatsoever. Hal is the brains behind the operation and will be a good owner in time. Baseball is both business and entertainment. If you tip that balance too far in either direction, then either the fans or the team suffers. Right now, the yankees are a corporation first. Concessions will be made and the team will return to being a fan friendly experience. Its gonna happen. I just think Hal wanted to milk everything he could out of the initial season. Cause once the novelty is gone, people wont even consider spending that kind of coin.
