  1. Josue Rodriguez was a sleeper in the DSL apparently. Good stuff, but otherwise needed a boat load of polish. I havent head much on Tolentino. Regardless, they are just fighting to get stateside let alone move up the ranks. They'll probably get released
  2. Wake in the pen, though, looks like a looming disaster. You have a guy who is older, who is brittle and by nature will be very inconsistent from start to start since he relies on deception and movement of a floating ball. You take him out of a rhythm that he's used to and put him into more games for shorter bursts and that unpredictable nature might turn out to be abysmal. It could also work out well, but I think his nature is best served out of the rotation.
  3. Beckett would be downright moronic to accept an injury clause, especially since he could hit the jackpot without such a clause with one more good season. Also, I am not buying the Lackey-Beckett love connection here either. Lets see how much they love each other when the season is in full force. Everyone is in a good mood in the spring. Lets see how they love life when the season rolls upon us. I still think that Beckett could easily eclipse Lackey money on the open market. And seeing as he signed a pretty team friendly deal a few yrs back, I wouldnt be surprised if he goes for a max deal this time around
  4. This is a non-story. He's trying to get back into the good graces of sox fans since he's gonna be working about 90 miles outside of Boston for the forseeable future. He hated Boston by the end of it and the fans hated him too. Surprised that this hasnt been a total PR failure for him, I am surprised that some didnt see right through this charade. It isnt about celebrating Nomar. It's a self serving ploy that seems to have worked for some
  5. Well, the problem is that a lot of theoretical conclusions based on biochemisty or biophysiology arent actually true when tested. Exactly why you don't make a consensus statement on something until you have proof.
  6. Massive blow for the Twins. This brings them back to the pack in the AL Central
  7. Velocity is one of those things that you can try and predict, but it is probably one of the least predictable things out there. One one hand, you have a guy like Strausburg who was topping out high 80s as a HSer, now he's well into the triple digits. Then you have a plethora of guys who have a projectable body yet never improve their velocity. From a Yankee standpoint, Tyler Clippard was one of those guys. Topped out at 91 when he was drafted and topped out at 91 when we shipped him out 5 yrs later. Kelly "should" improve his velocity. As is, his stuff safely projects him in the middle of the rotation with a ceiling of a #2. If his velocity improves like he "should" bringing him into a range where he's sitting 93-94, then he'll be ace material. The reason why so many people are on his balls is because he has advanced secondary stuff at a young age and good command at a young age. Also, it doesnt hurt to have the BoSox hype machine there either.
  8. Concussions were essentially considered brain bruises back in the day, but we are finding out that they are a lot more than that now. They can be the impetus for early onset dementia, personality changes, mood changes, etc. Concussions can have different effects on different people. Some can become concussed and a few days later be perfectly fine in the short term. Others may have a mild concussion and have post-concussive effects for months to a yr afterward. Some symptoms ranging from headaches to memory loss, vertigo, persistent vomiting and personality changes. We have barely unlocked the majority of the brain's function, so I would be lying to you if I said that we fully understand what happens when the brain gets injured. But for the most part, you could be asymptomatic after them or you could be devastated. Only time will tell
  9. Not worried about it at all. It was his first action after he had a GI bug. By the last week, I'll be watching more closely
  10. there goes the world series
  11. from you From Keeper From you Not a big leap there genius
  12. Not worried right now. Back tweaks and groin strains happen all the time in ST. If he's out there opening day, then there is no problem
  13. Hanley is more gifted. Jeter is more polished and seems to always bring his A game. Hanley gets knocked for being aloof and selfish. Jeter is far from that. Between the two, it depends on what I need. If I need a leader and a guy to set the table offensively, I'll take Jeter. If I need a middle of the order bat to anchor the offense, you go HanRam all day long
  14. This has to be one of the dumbest tandems on a site in a LOONG time. I am agreeing with bsox, but he doesnt know it. And Dojji thinks that one day a woman baseball player will come along with mammoth power or the capability to throw 100mph. Did the shortbus let out early today?
  15. she drives a freakin car. That has nothing to do with strength.
  16. Re-read my post above please. You are agreeing with me
  17. Wait, so Theo is going to change the mantra of the 2009 offseason and not care about defense in LF? No way!!
  18. I used to get excited about Spring Training stats and performances, then Enrique Wilson came along. For hitters, its essentially meaningless. Spring Training is there for the pitchers to shake off the rust and stretch out their arms. The only part of ST that has worth is watching the pitchers in the final week and seeing how their stuff has changed/improved
  19. so a physically deficient girl is going to do something that only supreme male athletes can do? That just makes no physiologic sense. This is the only way a girl is going to make the bigs, as a knuckleballer. They dont have the same amount of testosterone which allows you to build muscle at a more rapid pace, so therefore, they just cannot build up the same way. Hence, they wont be able to perform those crazy freak of nature things you talk about. The above post is just awful
  20. Lowrie is looking more and more like a backup. He never had elite potential. He's had avg potential from the start. His injuries have limited that. He won't ever be a starter for the sox outside of injury replacement
  21. It isnt an "implication." Its a non-FDA approved procedure that isnt legal. It is surprising, kinda like blood doping, but it has never been proven to be beneficial.
  22. Agree completely. The big difference is that Adgon had his big yr last season while Pena's was a few seasons ago
