I agree Scaff. Pauley seems to have regressed since his time with the big club. The fact that this was his best outing in the AFL is not really cause for celebration. I wonder if he's just worn down.

Dave Pauley started yesterday and only gave up a run, but the Javelina's dropped the game to Grand Canyon 4-2. Pauley's line: 4IP | 1RA | 1K | 3BBs | 6H Pauley appeared to be helped out by a couple double plays. So, on the one hand, he had trouble commanding the strike zone and was pretty hittable, but on the other hand he kept his head and made some pitches he had to. Overall, an improvement in his AFL season. Ellsbury went 1-3 with a BB and an SB. Brown 0-4 but threw a player out CS at 2nd. Box score here

Youks has value due to his affordability and age, and is a tradeable commodity, but he will not bring anything close to Arroyo back on his own. He is probably as good as he will get. His ZiPS projection for next year is pretty much a flat line. I'm not denigrating him: like Pedroia, he's a guy who is getting the most of of his package. Staying on topic, Spann is pretty exciting - the kid's just 22 years old. Just needs to control the zone a bit more, but he has the time, right?

Guys, any insights as to why Natale was not positioned in any of the fall/winter leagues? Given his obvious lopsidedness I had thought perhaps they'd have him keep working on the glove in the HWL or AFL (or even DWL) this offseason. Was he wearing down mentally/physically or is he not far enough along yet? He finished well for Wilmington, but he's 24 already - realistically what are his chances to make it to the bigs? Is the bat good enough? -
