  1. unfortunately, we can't put defense in the seats
  2. well, even though it was like 20th thread started about pretty much the same thing, I think we have a winner on an idea there. I definitely think a new member should have to make posts somewhere to show something at least before they can make their own thread (unless it is an introduce yourself)
  3. that it is not basic cable. you either have to have satellite or a premium cable package. Plus, besides the Thanksgiving day game, these are not top games. What I am trying to say is that Gumbel does not need to broadcast for the NFL to help his career, he is bigger than NFL Network.
  4. i was exaggerating the fact that there is a small viewership for the NFL network games
  5. Posting for riverside sluggers: here are the matchups
  6. Gumbel has a very secure future, he could care less if he doesn't get to broadcast 6 games for the whole 10 people who will be watching NFL Network
  7. Bryant Gumbel has upset the NFL by saying that new commisioner Roger Goodell needs to get Gene Upshaw's leash from Paul Tagliabue. If you have not heard about this, he is basically saying that the only reason Tagliabue has been able to keep labor disputes out of the sport is through Upshaw's uselessness. I actually completely agree with Gumbel. Upshaw does not put up a fight for his players. The NFL players union is by far the weakest of any of the sports, and it is obviously because of Upshaw's unwillingness to challenge Tagliabue.
  8. it is not guarenteed, it is not like any moron could throw money around and make this team get into the playoffs. They have had good management I hate to say. It would put the Sox on equal ground with the Yanks, but that is the only team the Sox would gain an advantage on. The rest of the teams would be gaining on us. I still do not want to see a salary cap in baseball.
  9. ok, let me state it that many Yankee fans, not all, would disappear if the team suddenly was not winning the AL East every year, a much greater percentage of Yankee fans would go away with losing than Red Sox fans.
  10. I'm not saying this guy should ask for our advice, because I think he is obviously not a good sports fan to ask us this, but are you saying that all Red Sox fans are doing it for the publicity? And what the hell does surviving cancer have anything to do with being a Yankees fan? I'm sure there are some Sox fans that have survived cancer. I'm happy for all of them, but 1. surviving cancer has a lot to do with yourself, and 2. being brave does not have anything to do with being a sports fan.
  11. crap, I missed that injury, thanx
  12. kind of early to start a game thread, but heck, the thread isn't bad and we need to try everything, so what the heck?
  13. Here is the thing, if this is actually an honest person and not the mets a-hole from the other day: Yankee fans love to win, period. Red Sox fans love the Red Sox, win or lose. Pick a group, arrogant braggers or loyal sports fans.
  14. i definitely think Pauley should be in Boston. I would like to see him get a few starts, he could be a part of the pitching rotation unless we make some big offseason acquisitions. He actually has been the best of all the options we have tried to fill it in. I think we need to prepare him to be with the big club for at least part of next year.
  15. i don't think it is any type of sign that the Sox were better for those 10 years. We might have had a better front office and 2 good drafts or something, not that big of a deal. To make a point I have made before: Even if it does favor the Yankees, baseball should not have a salary cap. It is the most pure American sport. Period. Remember, what hurts the Yankees the most hurts us the second most.
  16. if it is a prediction, I really don't have a clue, but as for who I want to win outside of the Sox, I kind of sympathize with the Mets, but that a-hole that was on here bugged me. Still, I wouldn't mind the Mets winning from the NL. I kind of hope if the Sox don't get there that the Tigers win the World Series to make people finally believe they are good. I have to say, America is ignorant. Nobody will believe the Tigers can do it until they actually do.
  17. I think example made a good point with the runners in scoring position statement. While the bullpen has been horrific, the inability to hit with guys on would have probably enabled us to win at least 1 Yankee game
  18. i would completely agree with SFOC on this matter, if all you do is try and piss off the other good posters here, you should be banned.
  19. good gracious, the paper i read today is way behind
  20. nope, it is JVB coming up
  21. we should pick him up, what's the risk? he can't make our bullpen any worse
  22. Wily Mo hitting 7th, what is wrong with Francona's brain when it comes to WMP?
  23. I don't think Gagne is worth the risk. I think we should get Zito and a decent number 4 guy, put Wake in the pen and get rid of Tavarez, leaving Paps as closer
  24. This is not the stretch, this is the middle. He can still turn it on, and he is definitely the leader right now since the other two are injured and Weaver has played less and is having the same downswing as Paps.
