  1. Lol, in his apology he said he tried to use "alliteration", which is beginning a string of words with the same sound/letter. Maybe he meant a metaphor?
  2. My point was that even when you win 83 games in the regular season (just 4 over .500), you still have a good a shot as anyone to win the WS once you make the playoffs.
  3. Agreed. The Cardinals in 2006 are a prime example of this. Once you get in to the playoffs, you have as good a chance as anyone IMO.
  4. It would certainly be an offensive upgrade over whoever they have at 1B (Duncan/Mientkiewicz/Phillips I think).
  5. People are too sensitive.
  6. Congrats, had a sick year.
  7. Oakland isn't a very big Japanese draw, is it? Is there anyone on the A's from Japan?
  8. What a terrible article. How about the Yankees as losers? Their roster does not change, and yet they have to spend, what 20 million more dollars (not sure on that figure...how much was Texas paying?). And the Red Sox as losers? The article states that the Yankees "reeled in the best player in baseball". This is the same guy THAT THEY ALREADY HAD. This doesn't hurt our team.
  9. Scott Rolen anyone? Him and LaRussa are fighting, and its very possible he'll ask for a deal.
  10. Pff, only 6 David Ecksteins and a double dosage of the Jeter fist pump can offset an ARod in terms of heart.
  11. Anyone else think the Celtics announcers may be as bad as the White Sox (TV) in terms of homerism?
  12. Again, lulz Hal and Hank.
  13. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/graphics/2008_schedule/ Notable Games Yankee Games: Home-April 11-13; July 25-27; September 26-28 Away-April 16-17; July 3-6; August 26-28 Home Opener: April 8th vs. Tigers (2:05) Patriots Day: April 21st vs. Rangers (10 or 11 AM) Interleague Games: May 16-18 vs. Brewers; June 13-15 at Reds; June 16-18 at Phillies; June 20-22 vs. Cardinals; June 23-25 vs. Diamondbacks; June 27-29 at Astros
  14. McDyess Sheed Jason Maxiell/Jarvis Hayes?-Donno who would play SF. Kobe Billups Thats pretty damn good right there.
  15. They just exercised his option, but he could possibly be discussed I presume.
  16. Lulz Hank and Hal.
  17. There's other options via trade besides Rod and Lowell. They're even listed in this poll-Cabrera, Tejada, Chavez...or move Youk to 3rd and trade for a 1B. We wouldn't be in huge trouble if we didn't get Lowell or Rodriguez.
  18. 5 days off after should be more than sufficient though. Go for it.
  19. Completely different situations they're in--basically opposites.
  20. Alex Rodriguez. He is the best player in baseball, period. The Red Sox are one of the few teams that can afford him. I'm sure most here would agree that Mike Lowell is not going to repeat his 2007 performance, and he probably won't come close. I would expect a season more like 2006 than 2007. Miguel Cabrera is very attractive, but has his cons. We would have to trade some key chips, including Ellsbury, and maybe even Buchholz. I love the two guys, and I would hate to see them go, especially after what they did this year. I think they can be huge contributors for years to come. Alex Rodriguez would not cost any players, just money, and there is no shortage of that. Also, all of this talk about the clubhouse stuff, I don't buy it. The Yankees brought in Johnny Damon, who was basically the anti-stereotypical Yankee. He had the hair, he was the proclaimed "idiot" who goofed off. Now, he wasn't as good in NY as he was in Boston, but there didn't seem to be much conflict in the clubhouse, or at least that the media reported. I would love to see the Red Sox sign Rodriguez. It would make this team an absolute powerhouse, if we aren't already. Seriously, imagine this lineup: Ellsbury Pedroia Ortiz Rodriguez Ramirez Drew Youkilis Varitek Lugo Not bad.
  21. I actually was thinking that the other day. Laird makes sense.
  22. Good for CC. He's a great pitcher, he deserves it.
