It's very, very easy to say "we don't give a f***" or "we're tired of the whole steroid mess". You weren't around here when the Pettitte story broke but I didn't hear anybody say "I'm tired of this mess" at that point. I didn't hear it during the ARod saga, and it can't just be because ARod is unlikeable. I find it to be hypocritical to hear Sox fans say they don't care about steroids now that one of their own has been implicated.
And for those who deem themselves baseball purists, ARod garnered a certain measure of respect before January's news hit. He was the guy who was supposed to validate the records, not Pujols.
Whether you like ARod or not he's guilty of the same infraction Ortiz is. In my mind, they're equals. Just because one guy is a metrosexual who bangs Madonna and the other is a guy with a goofy smile who loves mango salsa, is irrelevant. We mocked ARod for being fake, creating a persona that is not a real person. What is Big Papi, then?
The only difference between ARod and Ortiz is the jersey.
