I was with you until the last part. Theo does the best he can to field the best team in baseball, which he's done 2 of the last 4 years. "Getting distracted" and "going after his favorites" is a story that's played up far, far too much IMO.

Papelbon doesn't hold runners well at all, so I can see the logic of trying to get a bigger lead. The dugout tipped Papelbon off and they executed it to perfection.

Let's not get carried away here. Yes, Lowell had a very valuable season, probably the team's MVP like Papi said. However, Lowell's second halves (except for this year) have been abysmal. However, I think that's because of the adjustments he has made. He now goes to all fields instead of being a dead pull hitter. I want him to stay, if not for his production then for the reasons Theo mentioned. He's a clubhouse leader and one of the "core members of the organization." I would feel very uneasy relying on Chris Carter at any point next year. If he takes Hinske's role, then fine, but anything other than that will upset me.

It's never "out of the question"...this has just never been done before. Can you recall an instance where a player has successfully transitioned back to SS after playing 4 or 5 years at 3B?

Your Patriots homerism knows no bounds. How is this any different from Sox fans complaining about early June, when the Sox had the Sunday night ESPN game and then flew out to Oakland? Tony Dungy is a class act. Belichick can learn a thing or two from him, namely humility.

Disagree. With the age and injury risk each pitcher has it could very well be both. Wake's on the books for $4 million next year. Not exactly breaking the bank.
