  1. This is a place for discussion. Sorry if I continue to voice my opinion on the matter (and FTR, I want them to re-sign Lowell instead of committing so much to ARod), but merely dismissing the notion just because people don't like the guy is foolish.
  2. Probably not. The vibe I get from YAZMAN and VA is that regardless of the price, they wouldn't want ARod on the team. That's foolish. If he agreed to $20 million per, would you turn down that deal? The $30 million mark is the extreme price Boras wants. I'd be shocked if anyone gave it to him. I agree, actually. Thing is ARod has been healthy his whole career, and again, I feel the $30 million figure is the high end of what Boras wants. There is merit to the length of contract discussion, and the potential crippling of a team's payroll with that contract. However, to completely dismiss the idea is foolish seeing as ARod could very well fit a need for this team. As for being received by his teammates, do you think ARod would be a clubhouse cancer seeing as he is good friends with both Manny and Ortiz, both noted clubhouse leaders? Zero. Nah f*** that guy.
  3. Yes. So I'm sure he'd be a clubhouse distraction, or as Beaneater said "turn them all into a bunch of jerks."
  4. Shocking.
  5. So what you're telling me is, if the price was right, you wouldn't add a guy who hits .300 and hits over 40 homers every single year because you feel his intangibles outweigh whatever positive statistical contributions he can provide. Put simply, you're opposed to adding the best player in the major leagues because he doesn't have intangibles. That's a very good question. That's why I prefer to use statistics like OPS because they are contingent on the individuals success alone. Also, I love the fact you insinuate DiceK is a better postseason hitter based off of two f***ing at bats. Bravo, sir.
  6. ARod is good friends with both Manny and Ortiz.
  7. RSR is right. The Florida GM would hang up on Theo, and he should. Although, it may be possible to get him without moving Buchholz.
  8. Completely ignoring the fact that Crawford hits left-handed for one second, how confident do you think the Rays are that Baldelli will be back? Dude is made of glass. Besides, the Rays are on the cusp of being a very competitive team (1-2 years away). I doubt they let their best player walk via FA. I do think that if the Sox make a play for ARod, then it makes Manny expendable either this offseason or the next. You want to spend $20 mil on Manny in $30 mil on ARod in '09? If the team gets ARod, Manny is gone, IMO. Upwards of $45 million tied to two players. And you're the one who complains about the $9 million Lugo makes? If you want Cabrera, you'll part with some of that pitching. And since more teams are signing their big name players to longer deals, tell me, who are the top hitters hitting the market anytime soon? We were also scouting Lowell. How'd that work out? If Manny is going to continue to be as bad as he is defensively, that line is not worth $20 million.
  9. Ok, so we want to pay him $20 million in 2008 based on what he's done from 1993-2007? Brilliant. Do you think he's the same player he was in the late 90s/early 00s?
  10. I agree 100%.
  11. Actually, you do. It's just a question of if you want to commit that much money to him.
  12. wasn't Buchholz a pick from Cabrera as well?
  13. Small sample size?
  14. This is a very good point. I would think the FO wants to minimize risk, and Manny's options provide that. Still, I'd be interested to see how much of his offensive production is hurt by his defense.
  15. Is he worth $20 million a year from now?
  16. I agree. The only thing you trade potentially dominant starting pitching for is already established dominant starting pitching. See Beckett, Josh.
  17. Why wouldn't they go after Lowell? They need a 3B. Certainly a reasonable conclusion. I don't agree with it but I can see why others would. I fail to see how this makes him seem like a "Yankee Fan."

  19. RB, hate to break it to you, but they already have with s*** like "President of RSN" and "Sox Appeal."
