    I like Masterson, and think his stuff plays up in the pen, but he is nowhere near an "elite" reliever.

    That's not true at all, though. if Teixeira comes here, he's your starting 1B. Ergo, the Sox offer will be no different than any other, and may be more enticing due to their chances of winning a title.

    Plus there's the argument Masterson will have a greater net impact on the team giving them 180 innings as opposed to 75.

    Masterson pitched six innings in every start last season except for one. That has a lot of value. If he can give 180 innings at 4.3-4.5 ERA pitching, there's value there.

    Not I, good sir. I thought Pedroia would be awesome and warned everyone last offseason about tempering their expectations for Ellsbury (leadoff hitter for the next ten years!!!!!) Baldelli is not a great option because of his health condition. Jason Michaels might be someone to explore, though.

    A guy who struck out 25% of the time in AAA gives me cause for concern. I was calling for him to get a shot when Jacob was stuggling this season, but it seemed MiLB pitchers figured him out in the 2nd half. Plus, he's another LHH. We need a righty bat off the bench.

    Except Rocco has a disease that won't let him play more than one game in a row. Kotsay offers them better flexibility. Could Jeff Bailey be the RHH off the bench?

    What if this means the Sox are preparing to make an offer to Kotsay? I'd certainly welcome him back in a Coco role, plus he can adequately play 1B.

    Trading for Ramon Ramirez and making Masterson the 4 makes a whole lot of sense to me.
