  1. Seriously, $13M for a left handed hitting first baseman, converted to a left fielder, who was booed out of St. Louis! St. Louis, the town where Tony LaRussa doesn't even get booed. I think Theo has done a great job on building the Sox over the last few years, but Chris Duncan, please, his picture is posted under the definition of suck in Websters. This guy couldn't find his way around a one stall bathroom let alone the outfield. If you really are enamored with this guy, how about Lester straight up for his brother Shelley. Talent runs in the family.
  2. I didn't claim either stat was better than the other, just pointing out some differences. I like a defensive stat that includes fielding chances on throws from the infielders, don't believe UZR computes that. To each his own. Youk is a better hitter, so far this year, let's see where they end up at the end of the season. Jacko, no, I'm more of a GOM fan
  3. If you like zone rating stats that do not even consider line drives and pop ups that are hit in the zone.
  4. Might want to look at the ZR again so far in 2009, didn't see Youk's name in the top ten in AL.
  5. No, just rather see the guy with more hits, runs, doubles, HRs and better defense at first base.
  6. Instead he puts one of his own, Pena on the roster.
  7. If the fans had brains Kinsler would have been the starting 2B tonight, instead he doesn't even get put on the roster.
  8. Joba? Not in an all-star game in our lifetime!
  9. Would say the same for Youk, but the second string won't be in the game till well after Lincecum leaves.
  10. And I will tell you he is a genuine gentleman!! I had the honor of personally meeting him a few years ago here in St Louis, glad we could share him with the rest of the world tonight.
  11. Hey VA, yes it's been a long time. Just hanging out here in St Lou. I changed jobs last August and have not had a minute to myself since. I really need to try and get back on the board here more often.
  12. FWIW - watching the local news in St. Louis tonight and Obama got off Air Force One with Willie Mays, personally I thought it was pretty classy to have one of the greatest players of all time along for the ride on the Prez's plane.
  13. And as long as the Yankees continue to outspend every other club in salary, their players will continue to funnel more income tax money into the state of New York than any other team in their respective state. I'm not saying that makes up the difference in this argument, but the State of New York does pretty well on the taxing of the Yankees organization as a whole.
  14. Pardon the long post, but this is not new: This is right???: Posted: November 25, 2008 (Sporting News) NEW YORK (AP) -- Two New York City Council members say that Citigroup should show its thanks for a federal bailout by sharing the naming rights to the new Mets ballpark in Queens. The struggling bank is slated to pay $400 million over the next 20 years to name the stadium Citi Field. Or this article - Seems even the Red Sox had plan to rip off the taxpayers of Mass.: http://www.ntu.org/main/press_papers.php?PressID=345 Some are even 100% funded by the government - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_stadiums#References
  15. So Jeter's been playing 1B for the last 3 or 4 years???? Yes, the Yankees should want to fill that position with a power hitting, gold glove, under 30 player. Putting Posada, Jeter or any other declining player at a corner infield, traditionally power hitting position is ridiculous. I'm all for loyalty, but not at the expense of the team and championships.
  16. There is a list a mile long of player's, past and present, who were douchebags, but that doesn't diminish what they bring in talent on the field. Manny Ramirez is one of the top 5 hitters of the last 10 years in baseball, bar none. You don't just ignore stats like that when you want to compete in the toughest division in baseball. It's not like the Yankees haven't had their share of *******s before, what's one more if it gets you a pennant.
  17. First of all, I didn't know BBDoc had a twin who posted here. PinstripeProzac - what specifically did Manny do to be blackballed, hire Boras? If that's the case, shouldn't all Boras clients be blackballed? He left the Red Sox on the Red Sox' terms. Without him who knows if they would have won their WS championships. He was paid a lot of money in Boston and he delivered. Manny being Manny was just getting old and to tell the truth, they didn't do to bad in replacing him. Naturally, I'm not suggesting Bay will ever match Manny's career numbers, but he is a solid player on offense and a great improvement on defense. Manny will get signed and will probably get his $20 M per year. If the Yanks don't get Texeira you can bet they will make an offer for Manny. I'm a lifelong Yankee fan, but you have to give credit where credit is due, the one thing the Yankees don't understand is team chemistry. In that department Theo trumps Cashman every time.
  18. I like the idea of "hanging sox", let's start with Beckett and Pedroia and go from there. I'll bring the rope!
  19. The problem with Cameron is the K's. With the lack of base stealing ability on the Yanks, Cameron sets you up for a lot of strike/throw out double plays. The Yanks showed last year their run producing numbers are down and the loss of Abreu impacts that even more. Swisher will not make up those numbers. The smartest thing Cashman can do right now IMO is to sign Abreu to a two year deal. He's a proven run producer. You can platoon Melky and Gardner in center until Jackson is ready next year. At least they won't be giving up Abreu's 100 RBI and 100 Runs scored. Damon and Matsui can platoon at DH. Throughout all of the moves this off-season the one thing I commend Cashman for is sticking to his plan not to sell the farm to get roster ready talent. Spending the $80+ Million is the way to go for now and keep developing the minor league players
  20. I believe we have a LF for next year, Nady.
  21. There's no sense in piling up innings as a starter, the season is done, have him throw out of the bullpen and he can work on extending his pitching over the winter to prepare him to be a starter next year. Smart move on the Yankees part. Let's not forget Masterson's situation when criticizing the Yankees on how they have handled Chamberlain this year.
  22. Using my statistical analysis this would be another win for the Yankees
  23. Name IP H R ER BB K ERA* J Karstens (W, 1-0) 6.0 5 0 0 4 2 0.00 What a s***** performance and against the Cubs too!!!
