  1. They did that once, Jeter, Rivera, Pettite, Posada - but most importantly a Steinbrenner was not calling the shots at the time. Will never happen as long as a Steinbrenner is calling the shots.
  2. Same as last year, not a thing!! That's the problem with the Yankees, they still don't understand that pitching wins championships or at least goes a long way in getting there. They ignored pitching last year and it appears they are tying their hands again with long term deals. Better hope they re-sign Kuroda and Pineda is healthy and the stud they thought he was when they traded for him. Sabathia is a big (no pun intended) question mark and there is not much on the farm. Been hearing about these studs in the minors for several years but none appear to be panning out to Major League ready.
  3. True, hence the "overpaid terribly" statement. He adds an element of speed that the Yankees need and he is a pretty good center fielder.
  4. How about Insanity! Doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.
  5. VA - It's been a while, thought I would check back in. Congratulations on the WS championship, it was tough to swallow here in St Louis, but I think the Cardinals are set for several years.
  6. Overpaid terribly, but he does add the element of speed the Yankees are missing on the base paths. Teamed with Gardner that should significantly increase the stolen bases in 2014. He is definitely an upgrade over Granderson. By the way, I'm tired of hearing that the Yankees don't have a good farm system - they don't need one for outfielders the Red Sox have done a good job of supplying the Yankees with very serviceable outfielders of the last 10 years.
  7. Not possible, Melancon only gave up 2 HRs while pitching for the Yankees.
  8. Melancon wants the last 3.5 HRs of his life back also. Oh, sorry, your HR stood for hours.
  9. On the bright side, at least Colon knows he gets to pitch half a game every five days.

    Pujols

Lots of input here, but not very realistic. Pujols will not play left field again. Anyone who knows about Pujols knows his medical conditions will not permit him to play effectively in left field. I can't see any team wanting a $30M a year player who would only be able to play 100 games per year, at best, in left field. The only way he goes to the Yankees is if they convince Texeira to DH, not Pujols, or deal Texeira somewhere else. That would be difficult without picking up a huge part of his contract. Pujols not signing today puts AGon in a tough spot. He could have benefited in his salary negotiations had Pujols signed a contract in the neighborhood he is seeking. Speaking of Pujols demands - they are unrealistic in terms of number of years. I don't believe the Cardinals will ever offer him a 10 year contract at $30M per year. I could see a front loaded contract with the out years ( 6 - 10) being at a lower rate. Regardless of how good he has been, there is no way he can continue to put up those type of numbers for the next 10 years.
  11. They would have been better off to pay Wang that money instead of Gaudin. The upside of a healthy Wang is 5 times what Gaudin is worth.
  12. Doc If there was no truth to his injury concerns, why were his offers few and far between. If he is as good as some believe, he wouldn't have signed with the Mets..
  13. I'm sure both Boston and NYY never signed Damon to be a HR hitter. To say he wasn't great offensively until 2009 is a bit off though. He ranked in the top 25 in OPS in the A.L. in 5 of the last 6 years (players with over 500 ABs).
  14. I'm not around here much anymore, but my affiliation would explain why I wouldn't mind seeing Kotchman as the everyday first baseman. Seriously - Beltre wants way to much money for what he brings to the table. Putting Youk at third and Kotchman at first provides the best possible corner infield defense. With the improved rotation and defense you shouldn't need a lot of pop from Kotchman on offense.
  15. I don't believe the Sox need to add Beltre at this point. Put Youk at third and Kotchman at first. I think Kotchman will be outstanding with his defense and a suitable replacement for Lowell's bat, and he's cheap. Thinking long term, the Sox will need to keep first base available in 2011 for Martinez if they plan on making a run at Mauer. Same thinking if they are serious about getting Gonzalez at the trade deadline this year, you have to put Youk at third now. Beltre is the odd man out in either of those situations, you wouldn't play him ahead of Youk at third.
  16. After reading these posts, two things that are out of place here: 1. Hoffman doesn't even make the 25 man, not on this team 2. Granderson is not a #2 hitter, 6 or 7, but never a #2 with his K ratio
  17. Yeah that lack of a 5 man rotation really bit them in the ass in 2009. Just think, if the Yankees had a 5 man rotation in 2009 what they could have accomplished. By the way, where is that 2009 World Series trophy?
  18. If ARod has a terrible WS will he continue to be known as a "choke" in the postseason, in spite of his great ALDS and ALCS numbers which enabled the Yankees to get to the WS?
  19. It's not just Swisher's last at bat. He has been horrible the entire post season. I like Gardner starting tomorrow night and batting ninth. It's like having two leadoff hitters back to back with him and Jeter.
  20. IMHO the Yankees f***ed this up before the ALCS even started. Why would you leave Hinske off the roster for the ALCS? A big bat with loads of playoff experience. I would much rather see him batting in the ninth with bases loaded than Swisher. Swisher has been horrible. Gardner should get the start in center tomorrow night, batting ninth with Melky in right and Damon in left. Swisher needs to sit, he's killing the Yankees right now.

  22. I sure hope no one was surprised by this reveal. Only 96 names remain to be released.
