  1. they wouldnt give up that much, and sexson isnt that good anyways
  2. Walking to class today, i had this thought. Astros are known to be looking for #2 starter... Dodgers Get: Manny Ramirez Morgan Ensberg Dan Wheeler Sox Get: Rafael Furcal Jonathan Broxton Loney/Laroche/Kemp Astros Get: Brad Penny I'm sorry that this is purely speculation, but i still think a three way trade like this has a strong possiblility of occurring, as there are so many holes that teams have this year. It seems like there are surpluses at some positions for some teams, they just havent matched up one on one yet
  3. While i agree kemp may be better in the long run, id rank broxton higher solely because he is much more important to the team as a closer. My favorite package would be kemp, broxton, loney or laroche (i dont know enough to judge here, although loney has been highly touted defensively, i heard a GM/manager say that hes the best defensive 1B in the NL)
  4. i like how you note that they are two COMPLETELY different pitchers, while all the stats you show, except the bolded walks stat, are virtually identical
  5. New rumor...but take it for what its worth...a rumor: Manny, Youk, Bucholz for Mark Teixeira and SS Prospect Joaquin Arias http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=318&p=2&c=595745
  6. hes only done it one year in japan (i think)...so no, he cant close on a ML team, or at least we aren't banking on it before he proves anything.
  7. As the trade talks appear to be turning into somewhat of a bidding war between LAD and SD, heres who i'd want if im the sox: from dodgers: Broxton (like his makeup more than billingsley) Two of the following: Kemp, Loney, Furcal, Ethier from padres: Linebrink, and a combo of Khalil Greene, Peavy, Adrian Gonzalez --We could throw in lowell or maybe even pedroia (i hate to do it but they do need a 2nd Baseman, also many 2B on market for stopgap for us if they want the youth) EDIT: I'd prefer kemp over ethier...seems to have more power, more versatile in OF, and RH
  8. I'd love to see the aforementioned trade of Lowell/Manny for Linebrink/Peavy/Gonzalez, but i really doubt SD will be that desperate for manny. I'd settle for either of these: Manny for Linebrink/Gonzalez/Khalil Greene Manny for Peavy/Gonzalez Either of these would still be great return for manny. Plus, in either, we could still send lowell somewhere for a pitcher or another need, maybe even a prospect
  9. yanks win igawa bid w/ 25 million. im happy about that...he will suck
  10. if we're dealing with pitt, i'd like to see damaso marte come back our way. obviously, i'd love mike gonzalez too, but hes probably not going anywhere, plus he has injury problems. i'm just getting fed up with the orioles creating such a deep, solid bullpen while our FO has done nothing (that we know of, of course) to improve our pen.
  11. For once MC, i'm 100% with you here. Wily Mo's power is special, and i'd much rather have him bust on our team that flourish on another (see David Eckstein, Freddy Sanchez)
  12. One thing about borowski is that he hasnt had much AL success, which theo said is important to the FO
  13. Free agent Joe Borowski said Boston is one of the teams expressing interest in him and that he'd like to play for the Red Sox. "I'm from New Jersey, so I have ties to the East Coast," he said. "Boston's a great place to play baseball. I've pitched there and I know it. I feel I could really help a team like that." The Phillies, Blue Jays, Guardians and Giants are among the other teams considering Borowski. Nov. 19 - 11:42 am et http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/playerbreakingnews.asp?sport=MLB&id=2107&line=196963&spln=1 THough he's old, i'd love to see Joe Borowski with the sox...35 saves last year with the Marlins, he would certainly be a good setup man at the least. I'd also like to see Baez, who has had great success in the past in the AL East. Theo said AL success is important as to who the Red Sox will look for in relief
  14. I think people are forgetting that this guy was a starter all through the minors, and he had great success doing it. I remember seeing highlights of his starts in 05, and it sure looked like he had some solid breaking stuff working to me. I think he went away from his slider when he learned the splitter (i dont think he had it, at least not as good til schilling mentored him) because he didnt need the slider as a closer. True, he may stumble out of the gate, but i'ver heard some projections by stat gurus that have put him on an ERA just under three! We shall see. And as for injuries, the sox really think that starting will be better on his shoulder. The starting routine will keep his shoulder in better shape, which is necessary for him as their family is prone to loose joints
  15. i still think the sox could pull off a three way deal with manny for andruw jones and still receive someone else, especially if the Angels miss out on Lee and Soriano (the latter more likely). They'll be desperate for a big bat, and we could send manny there for Santana and prospects, send the prospects to the braves for Jones. Then we could sign drew and the contracts of Drew plus Jones wouldnt be much higher than Manny's (i'd imagine, i dont know the numbers). Papi Jones Drew would be ok with me for 3,4,5, plus it would allow Coco to play Left, a position hes much more comfortable in. AND, Rotation: Schilling Beckett Matsuzaka Papelbon Santana Wake out of pen/Occasional 6th starter (Gammons said sox may go with 6 man rotation sometimes to allow Matsuzaka to get acclimated with pitching more than once a week)
  16. i hope he doesnt get traded, because i really feel this guy could be an excellent player for us. He'd be great in the two hole behind lugo, and overall he is a pretty good value for the sox
  17. I was very surprised to hear he left that on the table too, but i guess part of it was that he was very unhappy in LA...nevertheless, he probably will command more than what he left
  18. I apologize in advance if this is a repeat thread: J.D. Drew opted out the next three years of his contract (leaving 33 mil on the table!), thus becoming a free agent. I think picking up Drew would help the sox both offensively and defensively. Good fielder with 25-30 HR potential in the AL...i would love to see him in a sox uniform, and this would allow the sox to use Wily Mo as a fourth OF/ 1B (maybe...see how winterball/ST goes)
  19. i believe he's currently in the Rockies minor league system...solid career path
  20. i like the flexibility this guy would provide, even though we signed alex cora. Having him would allow us to trade lowell for pen help, and if we kept lowell, i could see iwamura being a Bill Hall type, a superutility with power
  21. FUK WES HELMS HES GOD AWFUL
  22. absolutely yes. however, i've heard he's already the Angels' primary target, and the cubs really want him back...we'll have to pay out the ass for him
  23. i'd love to see michael young in a sox uniform...solid MIF, and the guy can just plain hit
